Hi Mike, I'm a long time viewer but seldom comment. Today I make a exception. I predict you will love the power rake. The combination of that with the brush cutter on the Vermeer is a killer combination. You could take a forest and build a golf course with that combination and little effort in short order. And by the way, I'm in the inspection end of road and bridge construction. And for what it's worth, your road building to the clearing could easily be a crash course on how to do things right building a road. Well done! Keep up the good work. Every video you make brings me a smile. Give my best to the family. I pray blessing in your direction!!

I probably mentioned this years ago on here. I had a buddy (Larry Hagy) who owned a 14 railroad car kiln. He could roll 14 flatbed railroad cars at a time. It was overhead heated with oil fired circulating water heat exchangers. He'd generally go about 2 weeks, keeping the temp fairly constant and dry out all the lumber he sawed. As you can tell it was a fairly massive operation. He only dealt in exotic hardwoods and very few domestic types. He also owned a bandsaw mill that had 60 inches between the guides to allow him to cut large timber he imported. He and his daughter traveled the world to make deals to cut and export the logs. He had bubinga, zebrawood, paduke, coco bola, etc. He also had cherry, ash, maple, and oak among others. I was a regular customer and after I loaded up my truck, he would always tell me, "come back and bring lots of money". He's long gone now and his business as well. He also owned a tongue and groove operation and provided lumber for high end building. His T&G was in Conowingo, MD and his kiln and saw mill were just outside Waldorf MD near Washington DC. Fond memories of the wonderful picks of lumber which I used to build custom furniture for my customers.

A few years ago I ran a water line 100' to my barn and back filled with a backhoe while it was snowing like a blizzard. That spring I called a neighbor who had a power rake on a big bobcat and in 20 minutes the lawn looked perfect. My wife and I were amazed at a power rake.

All that equipment leaving made me want to feel sad, but i shouldn't. You've got it replaced w what you need. Yay!! The deer eating the seed? What!! You should tell them the grass that will grow from those seeds they will like better!! Maybe put out your corn feeder until the seed starts growing. Crazy deer. That rake is the cat's meow big time. What a great job it does. You should just go ahead and do the entire field. I gotta say, around here, there's tote baskets w bundled firewood for sale, but looks nothing like what you just put under the shed!! Ultra Premium, oh yes!! Here, there's bark, i saw in the bundle not even attached to a piece if wood. Only 7 pieces too. Looks like a rip off compared to yours. I worked for landscaper for a few years and put in a lot of yards, when I started one thing I learned real quick was about grass seed. When a farmer plants corn he doesnt plant on top of the ground he puts it in the ground. We would prep the yard and put seed and fertilizer down then come back and lightly run a pulverizer over it to stir the ground and cover most of the seed. We always had a good stand of grass. This might help with the deer eating so much seed also give the seed a better chance of germination. Just a thought try it next time. Thar Harley Rake would do the trick just lightly.

Curious as to what you will use your new tractor for. I look at the land you have and what you're doing and expect to face most of the same work, aside from much shorter trees on my property. Have taken a lot of inspo from your channel and am now quite sold on a mini skid. I'm a ways out from affording anything new, but think I'll make a go for the Ditchwitch 1750 when I do. Full size CTL and a mini ex in the 6-8 ton range as well. Find myself questioning a utility tractor purchase, so will be curious to see how you use yours, given your other equipment, though I do agree it's probably the most practical tractor you could have purchased. Clearing brush and creating and maintaining quad/biking trails will be a large part of what I do. And likely some pond building.

I have a few of the IBC totes I use for firewood and had those big bladders left over. I finally split them in half, right through the lower valve front to back. This gives two extremely strong plastic tubs. I drilled a few drain holes in the 'bottom' and screwed them to a pallet. These still hold a lot, but are easier for a tractor to move, and basically doubled the storage that I had from the cages alone. Note it was a bit of trouble to power wash off the left over dye so do that away from anywhere you don't want the dye.

We've done several commercial kilns in the past. Make sure you use a river gravel mix, not limestone. The acid from the wood will react with the limestone almost instantly, and your concrete will fail. Also, use an epoxy sealer. Sorry so long .good luck

If you spray that food plot with gly, it'll kill off most of the weeds, but any established clover will recover. Then broadcast your rye grain into that. Don't disturb the soil anymore, though. It'll just bring weed seed to the top. Once you get the rye established, next spring you'll be setup to plant whatever you want after terminating the rye. You could even frost seed clover.

When running a power rake try to keep some down pressure on the front wheels. This will reduce jumping and make depth control much easier to manage with minor tilt/height adjustments. You will notice better drum performance and a much better and more consistent finished product.

Loved to hear Hunter’s laugh! Noticed the firewood baskets around the lifts of lumber blocking air movement. In the furniture industry natural air movement is used to accelerate the removal of “free” water. Drying kilns are only used to remove the “bound water”. Solar powered fans would be a good investment! You may have plenty of firewood to fire the kiln but you could increase your drying capacity by air drying the wood, thus shortening the length of time the wood has to remain in the kiln. Main thing is to relocate the firewood baskets.

You know, Mike, you probably have already considered this, but the deer are obviously hungry which is why they take advantage of your plantings. You may want to put out some deer corn in feeders (or pans with holes in them) to give them something else to go after. The corn is cheap, and you don't really need to use the coated stuff; just use regular corn

You can power it with a simple solar fence charger a deep cycle battery and 25 watt solar panel. The 4’ fence we use keeps deer and all predators out. You can set it up until the plot is established than easily take it down before hunting season and let them feast.

That is such a nice road. Our lanes in the woods are so bad. The last time my father let a logger into the woods, they tore it up with one of those timber jack log haulers. Part of the price of the logs was that they would flatten the lanes back out before they left. That didn't happen. The agreement was by mouth and a handshake which used to be enough for anything. Well I guess now I know how good that man's word is. My father passed away a couple years ago. That man will never be allowed in our woods again.
