Greetings, I appreciate you taking this risk to showcase cieneguita , this word was giving to this neighborhood because of when they first drop off the first black people here , they was just a 100 of them , so cien , for hundred and nieguita for blackies women , I am using plural for the word black, and yes we the blacks came from Jamaica arround 1800 and I am 4 th generation. Cieneguita used to be a flourishing place with prosperous black people but slowly the bordering countries came in and Took over and didn't have jobs so they started committing crimes because they didn't want to work on farms plus they was coming from war zone. At one point in even 2000 , we had police in every corner of San Jose street in order to clean up robbery from individuals from these other countries, so if you see lots of police , they are just trying to clean up the neighborhood and get things in order. But I was praying for you and I know our ancestors along with your wise mind will always guide and protect you. Thanks. From your limon sista , living in Canada. One love. Cieneguita is pretty chill in the morning. Night time is a slightly different story. Also cops in CR don't need a reason to stop you. If you look out of place they'll just stop and check you out. As most places around the world, being courteous helps a lot. The main threat for an adult man in bad neighborhoods in CR are dealers getting spooked out by your presence.

The area has nothing to do with bad black descendants of Jamaica. It's just a drug hood. They say Jaco and Limon is very dangerous too. President Roosevelt of the USA wanted help to build the Panama Canal he sent for the Chinese, but they kept dieing off b/c they had no melanin like the black man. When the years of building was done they were stuck. There was no planes back then they all came by boat. So gave them land and they settled there

All the area where you was walking, that used to be water, the ocean used to be right out there, I used to go surfing there when I was younger, all that was the ocean... The ocean water used to end up right on the main Street. And the place is really call cienega ( swamp ) but they call it cieneguitas . ( Little swamp) Limon is lifting up every year., every year it go up about 1 or 2 inches

Yes. It was because of lots of petty crimes and Breaking and Entering. If you live here part time, you could leave for a trip and come back and your stuff will be gone. Whenever I come back to the USA, my girl always has someone stay at her place.

They speak Mekatelyu (Limonense Creole), or also known as Patúa, I'm from Siquirres, is like an hour and a half from Limón going to San José, I have only heard Mekatelyu twice, the last one was some weeks ago and I was impressed by the language, I couldn't understand a thing.😂 Hopefully the black community in Limón can keep this language alive, apart from history and culture, is a really "cool" language. I found your channel some days ago and I'm really enjoying your videos from Limón, not many youtubers comes to Limón because of the bad reputation, so I'm glad you decided to visit it. I have been stopped by the cops in CR twice in over 3 years. The funny thing is I am usually taller than most Ticos at 6 ft. But the police were all as tall or taller than me. One stop for an illegal Uber driver and led to 5 police cars and 2 police bikes. They rolled deep on us. They asked for my ID too. The other time was while traveling from Puerto Viejo to San Jose by bus. They pulled over the large bus and had everyone get off with our bags and let the dogs sniff them. They arrestes two people who they found with drugs on them. . So yeah, there is a lot of drug activities from Nicaragua and other nations coming into Costa Rica and driving up violence now.
