The “hint” you get in the level 5 dungeon also indicates they can be defeated by sound, so I, as a child, tried the flute to no avail. That “hint” has been updated over the years to give you a hint that actually helps on the NES (i.e. using arrows). I was not aware of this update until I played LoZ on NSO.

The NES instruction manual has a cryptic clue regarding the Bunny Ears guys (Pols Voice). It says that their ears make them susceptible to loud noise which naturally led players to assume that they meant the flute (recorder). In actuality it refers to a feature exclusive to the Famicom. Yelling into the microphone built into controller 2 on the Famicom would instantly kill all of them in the room. (Kid Icarus had a similar feature regarding the shops but was replaced by a button combo on the NES.)

Great job, Ryu! I 100% agree when you said 6 is harder than 7, but 7 is its own breed of difficult. Although when I was a kid, I had all the time in the world to go bomb every wall and burn every tree in the game haha. I'm sure tons of people will already be talking about the meat and the recorder trivia, so I'll just say the red candle was my second favorite weapon in the game! I always wished this game let you choose another item for the "A" button slot instead of your sword (like Link's Awakening would eventually do) and I could have the magic rod in one hand, and the candle in the other like some kind of fireball throwing wizard! In Bloodborne, one of my favorite bosses is the scimitar/candle wielding guy who is part of the Shadows of Yharnam fight haha :)

Don't feel bad about not figuring out the Grumble Grumble room. The original Japanese word used was the sound of a stomach grumbling indicating hunger. They translating to English and used grumble, which is used for the rumbling of the tummy for hunger, but it also has other contexts. This led to a clue that didn't actually translate, so people have trouble figuring it out. You just gotta know how to get past. Also, The Werefrog want to see how you react to spending 250 rupees on that ring, if you do.

14:52 - You can actually bomb to the right from this room. I'm guessing they did that so the player doesn't get stuck in there. However, the extra benefit from that is that you can bomb *into* that room from the right - thereby skipping the fight with the 3 dodongos entirely.

1:10 Those are Goriya, and their concept are shows them as more doglike. The moblins are the orange and black dudes in the overworld that shoot arrows at you. 5:40 Those are Pols Voice. 15:10 It's funny, because the famicom version has a microphone built into the controller, and blowing into the microphone DOES kill those. Subsequent games also have them vulnerable to sound items. I'd also like to point out that the boomerang can be thrown diagonally.

@HeavyMetalMouse
@HeavyMetalMouse Жыл бұрын
I know the comments aren't read in realtime, to avoid spoilers, but for general info: The darknuts bouncing wildly in the wrong direction is because of that juking motion you do, where you attack then immediately reverse direction. When you hit an enemy with any attack, the game calculates the collision as though it were coming from the direction you're *currently* facing. So if you hit someone with your weapon, then reverse direction mid-collision-calculation, it will register it as though you had attacked it from the other side. This primarily matters for purposes of knockback from your weapon strikes, as seen in the video, but also affects whether directional enemies, like darknuts, take damage at all. This effect also applies to bombs, which do not hit enemies from the direction of the explosion hitting them, but count as though you were attacking in the direction you're facing when the bomb goes off. So a darknut facing left will 'block' your bomb if you happen to be facing right, even if the explosion was below, above, or behind them.

My understanding is that in the Japanese text, the "grumble grumble" is clearly meant to be the sound of a stomach rumbling. So you're intended to infer that he's hungry. Also good to see you experimenting with the whistle a bit. Try blowing it at other things randomly. Also, if you see something in a shop, unless it is something like a key or a regular heart, you probably want to buy it, because somewhere down the road, you will probably need or want it. If it leaves your inventory due to being used up, take the time to get it back. Stores are forever, rupees can be re-earned, but the problems they solve are one and done. As for the "tip of the nose," I will only tell you that you actually dummied your way into solving it. Ryu figuring out all the cryptic stuff and characters ripping you off is absolutely hilarious. Something you should know is some walks you can literally walk though, you gotta walk into the wall for like 3 seconds and you'll pass through them. How is that for random bs? XD
