nah that shell isn't mediocre at all, the only things it can struggle with is America or Britain in a full up tier and normally their have one of those nations on their team, mainly considering it mainly fights leopards, OF40s, and other lightly armored MBTs with at maximum 200mm of armor on a good day, 150mm normally

@@NotRealZayvoTrust the main issue is it's at a br where heat, apds, and apfsds begin to get stabilizers, meaning you won't get the first shot usually unless the enemy is braindead (which is quite often.) For example the Object 906 and T-55a have early stabs at 8.0, which is why the is-4m works really well in full down tiers but more often than not gets bullied in full up tiers unless you play it like a light tank 😂

Yea idk man. When I started out with the IS-4M I basically only got downtiers and now it's more equal. Guess it just depends on when you're playing. Had the same experience but reversed with the Maus.

If IS4 had soviet 100mm, it would be awesome. The 122mm in 7.7 is underwhelming, It's the same gun on ISU-122 in 5.3, and armor is almost useless given the quantity of HEAT, ATGM, and APDS in this BR. However In a full downtier it become a monster.

@@Polarfuchs I don't mean penetration of gun, pen is not good but it's enough, the problem is reload rate. In previous tanks with 122mm cannon it's doable because almost all WW2 tanks are sluggish So must of the time u can safely reload. In 7.7 and uptiers there are a lot of fast heat slingers and God forbid u shoot ur Gun.... All enemy team will rush to ur position.🤕 Maybe it's just my experience but it's really frustrating, I can do a lot better in IS3 because of 0.4 BR difference.

The problem with the IS 4 is that when you do get a downtier you almost always get Germany and you know how German players are so it’s almost always a loss. Another thing is it feels like the barrel gets shot out a lot more than the is 3 or is 6

true that sometimes the armor works but when it doesnt is when the real problem starts, bad armor , under performing gun, bad speed, long very enticing barrel that can be shot, being a long boy, and looking like the immediate threat in almost all situations, its basically a t-34 1940 but upgunned with a long schlong

im a russian main but the reason i think everyone just hates using this tank is due to the same issues found on any other IS tanks except at a worse BR. the large breech and muzzle break is enough to put you out of the fight and usually the repair duration is enough for tams or amx30s to close in on you. the reload rate is prob the main reason why this tank performs terrible, sure it will mostly oneshot everything but id argue the russian 100mm performs the same efficiency but with a much better fire rate and 122mm (atleast for me) is often cucked by how volumetric works in this game. all in all, is4m performs alright at 7.3-7.7 but in most cases, itll be sucked up to 8.0+

Ppl love to hate on soviet heavies bcz with few exceptions they all have a 20+ second reload meaning they cant rush in with their head cut off for a few cheap kills before going down I usually had a good time playing it and the only times i didnt was in full 8.7 uptiers. The armor of this thing is borderline impervious to conventional rounds, it gets 2 .50 cals and for such a hevy tank the mobility is surprisingly decent

I've been playing since 2016, heavy tank meta is almost gone. People use to love the IS4 because the combination was good. What you are missing in your experience is that heatfs and apds tanks got moved up. before you had the Leo1 and the italian m47 105 at 7.3 or the IVK at 7.0 penning you with no problems at any distance for example, chinese bmp with 900mm of pen. Plus you weren't save from 90mm heatfs aswell when they shoot you in the hull. 8.7 tanks used to be Rooikat 105, chinese wheels apfsds and atgms even Leoa1a1. So that's the experience from War Thunder players. Just because you started playing recently and you had good matchmaking doesn't mean that majority of the players were wrong because for years that experience wasn't nice in the first place. I used to bully Is4 with the Centauro when it was 8.0 the best you can do is go back and watch old videos of war thunder youtuber and see what the experience was.

I think the main reason for people dislikeing this tank is the slow reload poor penetration and simply that meta and the tanks at the br range changed so much that this tabk simply became obselete,i like it a lot but when you think about it for a second,the stb-1,sauma sm,m48,t-54 is the same br then you'll understand why people might not like this tank despite this i adore the is-4 and the t-10m which pretty much has the same opinions and peoblems except pen

I've player a lot of WT. It took me forever to figure out how to kill this thing. From what I can tell, you need at least 250 or so mm of pen aimed at the driver's hatch to knock it out. But even then it's not a guarantee. Absolutely terrifying vehicle.

i don't thinks IS4m is a bad tank but I don't like it because is really slow to turn so you canot make good mooves with it and his shell are really really really unefficients for its br, added to its 25s of reloading... that unplayable for me... for the same br, we have T54 with 10s of reloading,better shell and better mooves capacities for close duals(of course, at a long distances, the diference of speeds between IS4m and T54 does'nt matter at all) and finally, IS4m is really heavy for its br but his armor does'nt matter face to 8.3 or 8.7 apfsds rounds( and stab ). so I prefere playing 8.3-8.7 with T55a,amd or the object at 8.7 just after T10m... oh and sorry if my english is not perfect

The is4 has the thickest armor out of the is family besides the is7 with 200mm turret armor 160mm side armor 140mm front armor and 170mm manlet armor and im pretty sure hull 120-160mms thick meanwhile the is6 only having 110mm front armor and like 100-90mm manlet armor and turret armor 160-200mm and like 140-100mm side armor is3 has 120mm front armor 90mm hull manlet like 90mms 90mm sides and turret armor 160mm

It’s very OP with Russian bias, in game it’s very good, keep nose on and your good. IRL it’s trash and was never produced in great numbers, never saw battle, had some issues as is3, breaking welds easy to kill and set on fire. Improved top speed over is3, but not by much only 15kmh off road
