One remarkable fact that the media have seemed to have overlooked is that the back three of Kildunne, Dow and Breach that scored a total of eight tries against Ireland last Saturday all made their debuts for England against Canada in November 2017 and in what turned out to be a highly prophetic display managed to score a total of nine tries between them, including six by Jess Breach alone.

England were outstanding - playing quick ball with Tatyana Heard at 12 has really helped release the back 3. Scarratt was great at getting things moving too. Can anyone explain why Lucy P was yellow carded and a penalty try awarded? My guess is she 'tackled' an Irish player in the maul rather than bind to an English player and just push/shove but did this prevent a try?
@andyryan44848 ай бұрын
Red desperate to give Ireland something?
@BenRelle8 ай бұрын
She joined from the side, tried to tackle the mail and in the referee's judgement a try would have been scored of she hadn't. It's a fair one really.
@brettonsmith85348 ай бұрын
Looked back foot to me on a maul that roled in different directions. Ireland tried to role left and she joined the maul. It then roled right. She didn’t change her bind.
@suckers08 ай бұрын
@@brettonsmith8534 @BenRelle TY both. The gist I get is she probably joined from an offside position (i.e. not from behind the rear-most feet). It was the refs comment about possible 'foul play' having occurred vs a technical infringement that threw me. The judgement on Lucy P's action preventing a try is debatable but the Refs in charge. Next week I aim to understand the offside Law 🙂
@BenRelle8 ай бұрын
@@suckers0 Regardless of the offside (and I maintain she was offside, BTW), the ref said it was because she tackled the maul - you're allowed to bind onto the maul and push it, but you can't bind round the legs and therefore attempt to tackle it. Ref said she'd tackled it, and so she was guilty of collapsing the maul (which is also an offence, however you achieve it). There is subjectiveness in the judgement of whether Ireland would have scored had Packer not done what she did, but usually in rugby, benefit of those types of decisions goes with the attacking team. As it happened, I was just behind the upright on that side of the pitch when it happened, and I thought it was a fair call.
