After trying many pricey makeup removers and creams, I finally decided to try Ponds Cold cream again at age 50 remembering my great grandmother, who at age 101 (I was 32) had the most beautiful skin with barely a wrinkle. She told me then she used Ponds when I asked her secret. My skin has dramatically improved over the last three years since using Ponds and I wish now I had taken her advice twenty years ago. That sweet darling lived to 102. Thanks galore for your Grandma tips.

I was going to comment the same thing, whatever they put in Ponds (grandma) and a little later , Olay ( my mom) did the trick. I remember those products being the not just the Holy Grail, but the ONLY Grail…and otherwise, maybe a red lipstick and powder and foundation, and eyebrow pencil that were probably past expiration…but none of them had more than a small drawer or cabinet with a handful of items.

This year a family member unearthed a home movie of my mom’s family in the late 1940’s, in Chicago. It was just a kid’s birthday party, and they were definitely not wealthy people. But they all looked so classy! The men had jackets and ties, the women were in dresses and suits, my grandma looked fabulous and my mom and aunt, everyone looked so good! Seemed lipstick was the only makeup item that stood out, their looks were pretty but not overdone. Yet they were groomed with care for a simple family dinner. Contrast that with spending 6 hours at the Las Vegas airport the other night. I sat there in complete shock at how incredibly bad we look as a society, the craving for comfort seems to be the only goal. The way people dress, sit, walk - what happened?? 🫣

Thanks for sharing this! My daughter and I talk about this a lot, how bad a lot of women dress in public and the lack of care they take to look put together, especially as a wife and mom. I often say, "Jeans take just as long to put on as sweats." It's really not that hard to keep sweats at home. I would love if everyone respected others, and themselves, more by taking time to get dressed before they went out of the house. 👍

My grandmother who raised me was an ER Nurse. There was only her paycheck but I never went hungry or needed anything. She would budget and save. Old pants that were too short became above the knee shorts. She would sew buttons and darn socks, nothing was wasted. She taught me to be happy with my looks and what was truly important in life. My grandmother took me to Church every Sunday. Unfortunately, the young people today are not taught these important lessons.

Busy people. I was a busy person in my 20’s and 30’s with foster kids and my own son and working. But I thought about what I wore. But that was in the late 80’s and 90’s . I went to get my haircut a few weeks ago and this young beautician told me that anything goes these days as far as how we dress and look. Doesn’t matter what you were or how your hair is. Sounded odd but what do I know I’ll be 60 next month and things were different. I guess when I was growing up and raising my son and foster kids and working.

It's always confused me that women used to have incredible skin when they drank, smoked and didn't wear any sunscreen. My Grandma's skin was incredible. I would say it's pollution and eating junk food but men's skin looks pretty good and they literally do nothing except wash it with soap or any old crap. Hmmm... could it be we're being scammed? @@320-o3c I disagree. I’m a college student, and unhealthy lifestyle choices seems to effect everyone regardless of gender. As for hormones. I agree to an extent. Women who give birth tend to age a bit faster due to the fluctuation in hormones, but I’ve seen many young guys on campus who look way older because their associated hormonal conditions started early ie. male pattern baldness, dad bod, wrinkles, etc. that’s why I think people age about the same in general, but in women it’s more noticeable in the short term because lack of youth is more scrutinized in women.

Thank you for this. Sophia Loren said she only washed her face with warm water. No soap or cleanser. And she always moisturized with olive oil. Plain olive oil. One the wealthiest and most iconically beautiful women in the world, and she used ONLY water and olive oil. Interesting, because my Grandmother ( born in 1901) said the same thing to my mother. My mother passed it on to me.i still never ever use soap on my face. Ive never had a regimen for my face until the last couple years. Im 69 years old. Honestly, I have no wrinkles. A few teeny lines in the corners if my eyes. And I have inheritrd puppet lines that Ive had mostof my life. But I'm not wrinkled on my face. These days I do use an organic vitAmin C and E serum, high amounts of C because vitamin C makes collagen.and I use a hyaluronic acid serum on top of the vitamins. I do that when I think of it, maybe twice a week. I get the vitami serum on ebay for about $13.00. Organic. It lasts 6 months to a year. 2 oz. I get the hyaluronic acid ( its not "acid" like we think of it ), at Ulta or ebay...the brand is C The Ordinary. Costs about $8 on ebay with free shipping. THIS STUFF IS AMAZING. I also use this maybe twice a week. Sometimes less, sometimes none for weeks. Sometimes 3 times a week. Im pretty sloppy about being consistent. Lol. Its a new thing for me...main point here is Ive never used soap and only warm water...a couple times a year Ill do a good scrub with cinnamon or salt, and olive oil. I live in Southern Calif and I NEVER use sunscreen, for specific reasons based on things Ive studied about it. I think we need sunshine. Sunshine makes vitamin D for our skin. Ive spent my whole life in the sun, ocean and gardens and farms. Just sayin'. No wrinkles. I have 2 sisters younger than me by 8 and 9 years. They use " products". They are very wrinkled on their faces. They look 5 to 10 years older than me. I have another sister who is 4 years older than me, uses no "products" except Ivory soap and maybe an occasional Noxema. No sunsceen. Is in the sun outside constantly chopping wood, watering garden, fishing, etc. She has only a few wrinkles. I know we all are different and our skin is not all the same. But for me, in my life Ive seen the sun being pushed as unhealthy, and a zillion face care products sold as necessary...and what Ive seen is that people I know plus myself, that just use ivory soap or Dove type soap or no soap on their face, along with a natural oil, have no skin cancers and no wrinkles up into theit 70s. I'm really loving reading all the tips and successes from you all in these comments. I love hearing your stories. And mostly I love all the memories of family, how our great grandmothers and grandmothers and mothers passed down the basic beauty secrets because there was no L'Oreal or Beverly Hills models with their own product lines. Lol lol. By the way, i wartched an interview of J Lo. She said she only uses olive oil on her skin. Lol lol. I'm wishing us all happy and pretty lives :) , by whatever works for each of us.

My Grandmother many years ago shared her "secret" of egg and mayo, mixed together, then put the 'thickened mixture ' on your hair, wrap it up and let it sit for a bit, wash. I tried it, I'm not kidding it's some of the best conditioner EVER. Since I have heard it is a "Hollywood" secret, yet Nanny knew about it way back then!

What’s the ratio of Mayo to egg?
@Stephanie-kt9vh
@Stephanie-kt9vh Жыл бұрын
@@Ama.921 I do 1 egg and several tablespoons of mayo, adding until it's a runny (not liquid) lotion consistency, then I scoop it with my hands and start at the scalp area working my way through the ends, wrap it up and let it sit for about 20 minutes, rinse well and shampoo as normal. It feels so good to have that on your scalp, it's cool and so soothing, it really is AMAZING (doesn't smell the best but it isn't as bad as you'd think) my hair is so manageable, soft without the weight of modern day conditioners, and lm not even joking, the growth is INSANE. I lost a bunch when I had cancer and now I am on a daily maintenance cancer preventative and it has wreaked havoc on my hair, skin, nails and teeth and made me SO self conscious... my hair wouldn't grow and broke a lot even using high dollar salon stuff .. my hair now grows so fast, it's to my waist and every 2ish months I'm having to cut it to keep it from growing too long. Literally everywhere I go I get compliments in my hair and how pretty and healthy it is. I use this about once every 4-6 weeks ( a 'mommy' break time) and it gives me about 40 minutes to pamper myself, read a book or watch a show and w the egg and mayo, no one cares that I'm in another room .LOL (Another thing I do) I also use fresh aloe straight from the plant on my face, after I clean my face I rub the 'leaf" (?) on my face and neck ( it has even helped with the scar across the entire front of my neck from cancer surgery, it's less noticable and people don't stare at my scare like they did) and it has turned my skin into soft, healthy, youthful skin. It helps fight aging and it has totally transformed my skin. The effects of my meds on my face are no longer there. Because of using it straight from the actual plant not "in" a product, I'm not having to buy creams ... and they sale HUGE stalks at grocery stores, less than 2 dollars for a 'ginormous' leaf that will last months. You can store it under the counter in a dark place but I keep mine in the fridge and it's so soothing to put that cool aloe in my face and hands... my five yo said i had soft baby skin just like her😊 , again not in a product just cut off a slice, and rub that cool aloe all over your face, around your eyes ... it's amazing. All tips from my grandma handed down from hers, and they are timeless and pennies on the dollar. I'm sorry this is so long, I just wanted to share time tested and true old time secrets with you. I love that Hollywood thought they had a secret w the egg/mayo conditioner/mask and my grandma told me about it when I was 12 and had gotten a bad perm that killed my hair and I'm 50ish ... And she had learned it from her granny. Isn't that precious?! I hope these help, works on ANY hair/skin type, all natural, pennies on the dollar that are TRULY pampering and we all deserve that. Have a wonderful week, be blessed and safe .. if you try it, will you reply back to this and let me know what you think?!?! Be blessed my friend

@Stephanie-kt9vh
@Stephanie-kt9vh Жыл бұрын
@@decflowerful I do it before... I mean I wash my hair usually twice a week, but I do the deep conditioning before my wash. I let it soak in my hair 20-30 minutes then my usual routine. I have done it once a month, but, I have a 11,5 and 3 year old so I have gone to about every 6ish weeks. You definitely would want to do it before you wash, it soaks into the hair so it's getting the protein, but you certainly wouldn't want to have egg and mayo in it following a shampoo, especially with the heat. Although now that I think about it, that may well be a way to get my kiddos into bed easier, especially the 2 oldest, they think it's gross and are happy to be in another room ...LOL Hope this helps. I LOVE LOVE this video, I am 72 and have used Pond’s cold cream for over 50 years and my skin is smooth, and I have been told I look at least in my 50’s. I also use a grapefruit and coconut scrub and my skin actually glows.😊 my grandmother always had lotion on her vanity and used it at night it was from Avon. I use only Dove soap on my face, I love the smell and the way my skin feels. I learned many things from my grandmother I wish I had paid more attention

Grapefruit probably exfoliates your skin, which is good, but citrus fruit oils also make the skin more photosensitive, or more susceptible to damage from the sun, which is bad. But I have to say, how we age really doesn’t have anything to do with the products we use, it’s mostly genetics.

@@ichibonfriend2923 I drank, I smoked, and I was a tanner, since my teenage years. The pools, the beach in the summer, and tanning salons in winter. I stopped in my mid 30’s. I have a friend who avoided the sun like a vampire. She’d wear long sleeves, hats, and 70+ sunblock, and lecture me on how she was still going to look good when she was older and I’d look like one of those old ladies from Florida with leathery skin. Here we are now, technically older, and she looks much older than I do. Even though she’s had dermabrasion and other procedures. I had some superficial sun damage, but Tretinoin cream fixed that. It also helps with fine lines, so I think using the right products does help, but they aren’t going to work miracles. My mother and her sisters aged well too….though someone just told me it’s the 60s when the real aging starts - and there is no stopping it!!

I am 62. Your channel is very nostalgic and I have subscribed. I love history. I was a teenager in the 70's. Nivea and Ponds were still a big deal then, too. Unfortunately, my grandmother died when I was 12...so I never got to spend much time with her. I do remember she used Ponds Cold Cream. That I do recall. The Glam from the 40's - 70's was an amazing time in our history. I guess I'm an OLD FART now...and miss those simpler times and our innocence. I look forward to seeing a video about the cosmetic vintage secrets. I'll look around. You probably already made one. Great Channel!

My grandmother used the blue jar of Nivea (which she pronounced as ni-VEAH-ah in her German accent). She had incredibly youthful skin until she died at 95 +. Another German senior I knew also used Nivea. I always thought it was too thick and greasy. Then I bought Creme de la Mer. It felt almost like Nivea! I prefer the Nivea Soft. I only use creams because there's too much water in lotions.

I love all these pearls of wisdom but keep in mind all the products that our grandmothers used (Vaseline, dove soap, etc) are not the same formulas as they were when our grandmas used them. They have toxic chemicals in them now (preservatives, etc) that are harmful for your health. It’s best to go for the pure, organic versions - virgin coconut or olive oil, shea butter instead of Vaseline, castor oil soap, coconut based soap, and drinking spring water (tap water and even “purified” or “distilled” water is full of fluoride and chlorine nowadays). There are some great organic face lotions/creams out there now and you can even find affordable ones too.

Much as I would love to use ponds cold cream I stay away from any & all products to ingest or absorb through the skin that contain propylene glycol because that is anti-freeze. Yep. It's in a lot of things like ice cream, micellar water & ponds cold cream. Yup I know that Vaseline is a petroleum product but it is highly refined & far from the crude oil & tar straight from the well. Now I know that there is "food grade" propylene glycol, but products don't necessarily list it as food grade in the ingredient list. I just know that as a helicopter mechanic I routinely used propylene glycol & in the MSDS it usually gave the chemical compounds with a formula. No formulas are given for food ingredients. Yes that is picky. They are finding aluminum to be the culprit for Alzheimer's & that is found in a ton of products too like deodorant & of course cooking pans. My 2 pennies.

Let's not forget that our grandma's also ate fruits and vegetables that had 20x the amount of nutrients than we get in our foods from overused, depleted agricultural grounds. And they didn't eat all the ultra processed crap that we can barely avoid if we try really hard. And they lacked all the toxic fumes and whatnot in the air. No, life wasn't that much better than it is now, but I am willing to say that it is no wonder that our skin is getting worse and we are getting sicker by the day.

You don't end up with produce with fewer nutrients. You just end up with smaller produce when the soil is not as rich a it should be. Beside that, not all the nutrients are bioavailable anyway. In meat they are. I like vegetables. I eat them for taste and variety, but I'm in no way relying on them for nutrition. The protein foods I eat are packed with nutrients.

aout the dove "beauty bar". back in grandma's day, soap would take the hide right off your back. so you certainly didn't wash your face with it. but with today's ability to get precise measurements and pure(r) lye (yes all soap is made with lye), handmade so that is made with extra fat (and most are) is going to be SO SO SO MUCH BETTER for your face than anything your will find on the grocery store shelves. you will find your body needs much less moisturizing because dove strips all of the natural oils from your skin. it has the same ingredients as floor stripper. i spent 20+ years making soap and only retired due to my health. but i can't tell you how much more my skin did with handmade over store bought. you should be able to find a great one with lots of great smells in any boutique or farmer's market in town. if not there, then etsy. not only are you doing your skin so many favors, but you're helping small local businesses rather than big industry.
