I LOVE grocery delivery! And, in my mind, it's bringing back an old-fashioned practice. My 70-yr old mother remembers early morning milk deliveries. Milk, butter, eggs, bread used to be delivered on a regular basis. Grocery lists could be left with the shop keeper and would be brought by the delivery boy later in the day. I love this practice. And I'm happy to give a delivery driver a job and a generous tip for something that is so time saving for me. I'm all about the old fashioned lifestyle. I'm the one that receives joy from washing the laundry outdoors and hanging everything on the wash line. I've begun eliminating everything artificial/ disposable from our lifestyle/ diet/ routine. I think I was born in the wrong century...

I have dairy delivered as well as mushrooms, local chicken and i use to have locally roasted coffee delivered before we started roasting at home. many farmers at the farmers market in my area have subscription boxes for delivery as well. I agree with you 100%. I tried doing Walmart delivery/ pickup 3 times, I believe, but they definitely used that opportunity to off load over ripe, about to expire, expired food as well as really dented cans which was unfortunate. If you see this ( old post so maybe you won’t) Have a Merry Christmas 😀

I adore a good amalgamation of old-fashioned and modern. 😊 I enjoy my heated seats, instant pot, and freezers- I also enjoy the simplicity of not everything being automated and electronic and connected. We have mini homestead on 1/4 acre in our small town. There is a small orchard that is still immature, and lots of other rotating crops. Our milk, yogurt, and most of our cheese and meat is delivered weekly by a local farm. It's great, and we have developed a pretty good relationship with our delivery guy. If you would look at our house, it doesn't have the farmhouse/homestead aesthetic. It's more global nerdy eclectic, which is something I just made up, lol. I have Jill's cookbook, and I'm excited about her new book!

Thank you girls! This was very good for this Gramma homesteader to listen to. You are both about my daughter's age. That last part you are talking about, which is to not worry about what everything looks like, is so true! It bothers me that the barn is a mess with all kinds of junk that my husband keeps and other things here. After all, we have lived here 30 years and have been married for 40! I love listening to both of you gals. You have so much to offer, especially women. Even more seasoned women can learn from you both. Thank you again and the next time I look at the junk in the barn, I will remember what you said!

On the grocery delivery topic, my great aunt Who is in her ninties had seven children and only got a car after her fourth kid, so I ask her how did you got all this grocerie back home? And she explained that she had she was going in the store, choose and pay and later that Day a delivery Boy would come delivering at her home, everithing nicely packed! As a stay a home mom this make si Much sense!

So agree about the lab created foods. As far as the food system, I think many people need to start trying to create their own food. A long time ago there was a video where this family lived on a standard large plot in California and grew all their food and even sold to near by restaurants. It's a matter of priority ad desire. I have the aesthetic, but it's always dirty, lol.

I've always wanted to live this way. I loved reading books set in pioneer times. Always interested in antiques and practical everyday life from "back in the day." How did they use these items in their everyday life. But I married a very technologically minded man who loves to travel and loves new things. So I kinda drifted away from it. Though I still dabbled in canning, sourdough, etc. now with more people putting out this kind of content, I'm trying to learn more and get into it more.

I feel like the way that grocery shopping is changing is a new take on how it was done in the past. Going to the supermarket and walking the isles is a pretty new way to shop in the grand scheme. In urban areas delivery was common possibly in smaller cities or towns too. Making an order and picking up was the way you purchased if you did go to the store, every thing was behind the counter. The milk man delivered to houses that needed milk too. I still do a fair amount f in store shopping. I have a 2 hour window on Mondays that I use for shopping. But I also love ordering for pick up or delivery, it saves me tons of time.

The cruise control thing is probably a setting you can change. A lot of vehicles will slow down when they get closer to another car ahead of them. But they always seem ridiculously sensitive, and slow down way before they need to. You should be able to change a setting on this distance.

There was a period when my kids were little..... their Dad and I had split, but they shopped when kids were with me, and I shopped when they were with them..... they didnt go to the store for like 5 years. I started taking them when I realized, but then we shifted to Instacart. We talk to the drivers, we still hit a small local grocery for water refills, but they are almost immune to impulse purchases when I send them with a card and a list to get water. Hopefully that holds up when it is their own money, but they are so used to us getting the same things that they don't even really look.

With some of the things that came along with the industrial revolution is good and it makes our lives easier. It’s like we humans just didn’t know when to stop and we had to push it and push it to where it’s just about done us in.And now with the AI revolution coming along and man not having any control over themselves and not knowing when to stop and we’re not to push a good thing. I’m usually an optimist and I really want to be now. But I wonder where this is going to take the world. I don’t think it’s going to end good.

Homesteading, on a small scale, without having the land to support your animals is very expensive. And while we want to raise our own eggs, meat and dairy, it is very expensive to buy all the feed needed every year to raise them. It’s a struggle to know what to do.

@@deliciouscolours France is very different when it comes to sourcing food. You won't find in a French supermarket even 10% of the so called "foods" they sell in American supermarkets. The people still have A LOT if respect for fresh, local, unprocessed food. It is common to do your shopping almost daily, go to the market and support small producers. I live in Belgium right on the border with France (And I'm in France on a weekly basis). There is a difference when speaking about tradition when it comes to religion. In the US religion is still very very present and part of many people's life- unlike in Europe. Here most of the people who still go to church are older (more than 60-70 years old).
