Hey fam! We had an informative stopover in Qatar on our way to Africa. As one of the safest and richest countries in the middle east, its history was built on controversial immigrant labor. When i visited Qatar, i noticed many migrant workers doing the so called dirty jobs. And I understand why - most of the workers come for uneducated backgrounds, and everytime i met the migrant workers, the never took any responsibility and weren't polite or friendly, and the areas where they lived were littered and dirty. Unfortunately thats the sad reality, and you can watch my videos to see this first hand. Other nationalities, especially Arabs, Qataris or Europeans were really nice and friendly and even bought me coffee. The past is past, and Qatar is a great place to enjoy a good life, but yes, the kefala system is there but is not misused in most cases. Media just like over exaggerate the issue, all the uber drivers, and the migrant workers often have accommodation provided as well, which in contrast to their own countries specially Indo-asia, do not have. Also if you compare working conditions of Qatar versus their countries, Qatar is better by miles. Thats my observation, appreciate the video!🎉

People may find the rulings in Qatar and the middle east to be strict but look at the vast benefits: Clean streets, reduced homelessness, no drunken and disorderly behaviour or people taking drugs in the street, safety etc etc. I feel safer there than in London where there are instances of men raping women on public transport etc.

Colleagues have told me the disparity in social status was very uncomfortable to witness and ultimately hastened their decisions to leave Qatar. Another unfortunate issue in ME countries (esp Qatar) is high rate of paediatric birth defects resulting from sharing blood relations as marriage between cousins is strongly favoured.

To me Qatar is one of the US's strongest allies definetly more than Israel. They hosted US troops in war in middle east while Isreal didnt. It's strange how they split the money they make between all the natives from there. Kuwait is just like this too. There are still countries in Africa that have slaves. So wierd to me. But when you look at history there have been slaves since before BC. you can say since the very begining of time. 97.9 % of us come from slavery somewhere in our background. Only the very bluest of blood royals who kept on marrying royals have zero % slavery in their linage. I dont know if I could live in Qatar or Kuwait had a riend serv all of his millitary career there. He really liked it. Have great travels!!!!!

I appreciate the fairly balanced approach to this video and hope you enjoyed your time in Doha! Unfortunately the much of the middle east & north Africa doesn't treat migrants well currently, I sincerely hope this improves in the future. PS By the way "Sharia" law does not consider the testimony of a women half of that of a man, this is a myth. There are a few specific circumstances (one afaik) where the testimony of 2 women is equivalent to that of a man, but there are other circumstances where the testimony of a women is worth that of 4 men.

As a Qatari this is false , u said we have been trading “ slaves “5:13 in the Visio qatar was independent in 1971 but you said that it was till 1952 in that time Qatar was taken over by the British , this is js disrespectful as a Qatari ur saying that we tell the foreigners to come they came by there own will to work here , stop trying to put Qatar in a bad picture. Thosse “ slaves” as u described they reached out to Qatar for work to support there family’s and it’s not appropriate for u to come to Qatar js to stop tourists and trying to make Qatar look bad , I understand how u wanted to make a video about Qatar but please don’t do it by describing Qatar as “slaves” in the being of the vidio
@TheYarbros
@TheYarbros Ай бұрын
With all due respect. No lies we’re told in this video. Slavery was outlawed in 1952 as stated in Qatars museum of slavery. Next, Qatar recruits workers through third party companies STILL using the Kafala system. We have numerous recent public accounts of migrant worker abuse. Also, if you believe that the Zanzibar slave trade benefited the slaves you are believing the lies of your government. No one wants to be a slave. They made the best of their situation like we do. I urge you to research more about your culture. It isn’t our place to put any country in a “bad” light our jobs is to talk about what we see with in the countries we travel through. We shared our highlights too. The facts are Qatar is evolving and the have a long way to go before all human rights are recognized by the Authoritative state of Qatar. I’s also true that it’s a beautiful place with a beautiful culture that is trying to set a new standard for the Arab nation. You cannot too that by making excuses and acting like horrible things didn’t and aren’t happening.

Well it’s not appreciated for u to describe Qatar as “ slavers” in the beginning of the video and the kafla system is used in most of all the Arab nations , the kafla system is not the best way but I know we can improve , u have no right to say that our government is lining, as in my opinion our government is great , am not trying to start a fight I js don’t appreciate u describing Qatar as “ slavers”

Saudi Arabia officially abolished slavery in 1962, but unofficially it still goes on. There was a slave market recorded in the 1980s by a Saudi Princess who was trying to flee the royal family. Most slave trading has moved online in the rich Arab countries though.

Wait, how did I miss the good side of Qatar? African American woman here! ☝🏽😊 I am new here, so maybe I have to scroll down. I visited UAE, which is similar to Qatar, I hear. I found it wonderful and hospitable. Perspective is everything. Like America, countries in The Middle East (TME) are evolving. I also witnessed some of the workers and learned some stories about the conditions of contractors. However, it did not dampen my experience as a tourist. My hotel was affordable and 5-stars. My taxi was a Lexus and the mall was a shopper’s fantasy. I felt super safe too. The food was delicious and it was easy to get around because everyone spoke English. I had a dinner cruise on the Creek. The public restrooms have bidets, a bonus…and people smelled so good! As a woman, I only saw foreign workers staring but none bothered me. The laws that preserve modesty in their communities didn’t bother me because I am modest here in America. Some say strict, I say modest. I found the Adhan (call to prayer) sounding over the city to be spectacular to witness. I love Muslims. Watching shops close temporarily for prayers and reopening was amazing and different. I hope those who love safe travels and culture venture to TME. It’s like no place else on earth.

These are a people are now wealthy and exploit the poverty of surrounding populations. Yeah I get that but you correctly identified them as simple fishermen before oil discoveries. This was not an area of large food production or need to exploit mass labor in mining or some other industry. Soooooo I’m not so sure if this story of mass premodern slavery is legit. How do you press large amounts of people to be slave fishermen and why? How could you have the wealth to even purchase them?

Is it so hard to accept and respect a culture different from yours? You shouldn’t be traveling then.

We had a great time in Qatar. I don’t think it’s hard to accept at all. This video is more about letting people know what they need to accept and know before they go…. A look before you leap situation.

Misinformation, am an American living here for 6 years now, there is no slavery here, they come here by choice , not like america brought by force. If they don't get paid then it's a company issue which needs to be reported to Qatar officials properly. I love living here compared to shit New York I lived in.
