I absolutely love the Shelby, I ’ve made 6 so far this year. That’s either because I love it, or I’m being really lazy and I can now make it up while drinking gin 😂😂

I love your dress and the length is perfect. It makes me laugh because I made a culotte dress for my daughter back in the early 90's that was from a pattern that looked exactly like the Shelby dress. I made it from a beautiful emerald green brocade. It even had the back ties. And you inspired me when you wore that fluorescent green cardigan a while ago. I found some verigated yarn that is fluorescent green, yellow, pink, and orange. I am crocheting a crew neck sweater. I will certainly shine at work this winter. The pink and red of your dress looks amazing on you.

You’ve inspired me, lovely, to get my arse into gear and make this fab pattern up! I got as far as taking it out of the packet, then was totally put off by the length of the pieces and the faff of ironing the pattern before I even started tracing. What can I say, I’m obviously just incredibly lazy🤣but given your heads up on sizing, I’ll live dangerously and cut the pattern🙈wish me luck😉🥰😘

Lovely dress on you. Mine is a little roomy which has also made the neckline low but I find the sleeves a bit tight. Also found the shoulders wide. With the hem the seams will have prevented the fabric dropping, but in between because the are curved on the bias shapes they have dropped. I have wondered whether a bit of narrow very light interfacing might help this.
@theyorkshiresewgirl2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Maggie. Yes you might be right about interfacing 👍🏼
@frocking_adventures67482 жыл бұрын
I think the hem shaping will be to do with the long seams being bias cut. Once the dress has been hung for 24hrs, those edges are more likely to drop & end up the same length at the hem all the way round. Of course I could be talking nonsense, which is highly likely with my sewing skills🤣🤣 Lovely dress, really suits you👗👌

Nope that makes perfect sense Dawn!

Please could you explain what Sewtoons is? Made Shelby last year and struggle with the it under bust shaping. I have a small frame but DD boobs and needed to go to a local dressmaker (and pay) to have the bust shaping taken in appropriately, and put ties at side rather than back seams. Saw similar dress in shop (N Look) with shirring at side seams so might try that.😮 Also sewed down button band as just slips over my head.
@theyorkshiresewgirl2 жыл бұрын
Ooh shirring at the sides is a fab idea! SewToon is a social sewing day organised by Tamlyn from Sewn On The Tyne x

Do you have any tips for the button placement I’m new to buttons and button holes and my last one ended up slightly uneven 😩
@theyorkshiresewgirl2 жыл бұрын
Oh bless you Kirsty. Practice makes perfect is all I can say. Test them out loads on a scrap piece of fabric. You’ll get used to how your machine does them. Don’t worry though…mine are always slightly uneven and wonky. No one ever notices but me 😜
