Yes, I do believe that some right wingers and religious zealots consider single women to be loose cannons. They are not bogged down by a ton of children or a husband to "lead" them. They throw monkey wrenches into the whole happy family unit paradigm. Although it is unspoken, these people believe that everyone should get married and have children. Free choice shouldn't be an option.

I literally just read a Reddit thread where people working in aged care were saying that the happiest, healthiest and most visited residents in the nursing home were childless women in their 90s. Not only were they thriving physically but they had SO many special people whose lives they'd contributed to over the years and these people regularly came to see them, whereas a lot of the people with children were never visited except on Christmas. So this "childless woman dies alone" thing and the "have kids so someone will look after you when you're old" thing is a total lie.

I am in the LGBTQ community proudly, after 7 years of marriage I decided to live my life happy, living how I was feeling. 62 years later At (69), I'm happy and have a loving relationship with my daughter and my partner of 13 years, and my Grandson's and it was how I raised her, that makes her want to be there for me when I can no longer take care of myself, along with my partner who is 9 years younger than I. I'm a Conservative and raising kids is one of the most life-altering, limiting, and time-consuming HUGE responsibilities a human being can undertake. I respect anyone's decision to choose to avoid such a responsibility regardless of their rationale. Nobody should feel obligated to raise a child. They could choose not to literally because they want to avoid having to change diapers and I'd respect that. The bottom line, these are personal decisions and people need to quit sticking their noses in other people's personal business.

I have known a few women who chose not to have children. Some were married, some had a partner (both male and female), some were single. Most of them were childless by choice, and were happy that way. I have more respect for a woman who makes a conscious choice about such a big and important decision than one who "accidentally" gets pregnant, and is unfit or utterly unprepared. It is a hard job, being a good mother!! Being a good parent!! I wanted two children once upon a time, but I had one who I adored, and meant the world to me! Unfortunately her father was not good dad material (or husband material), and I knew how hard it was being a single parent, and as I never found what I considered an acceptable replacement during my childbearing years, I opted out of having any more. I'm grateful for what I had and have. The point is, it is a hard job and a personal choice, and is nobody else's business!!!

He abused all of us four women including two children. Once my mother wasn't around he was trying to sexually abuse us almost daily. I had to walk the dark streets in the cold rather than go home. There was nothing wholesome about the lack of support my mother had. There was no way I would put myself in that helpless position again. He’s not even correct about doing whatever you want when your kids are older. My grandma had to help my mom raise me and my siblings instead of choosing to live as she wanted. He forgets that it can also be stressful to have adult kids. Many nowadays can’t afford to move out which ends up falling on you to help support them. Even if they move out and have their own families, there can be issues with marriage and if they get divorced it will be added stress to you because their issues are yours too. They could end up having financial problems later on and needing your help. They might need you to look after their own kids making you re live the experience. My bosses wife is constantly babysitting her 7 grandchildren so her kids can work. I would much rather not deal with all that and just travel whenever because truth is having kids is a stress for life. They could end up disabled. They could die and leave you depressed. I could go on. So so many reasons why I don’t want them.

If a woman chooses to be a career woman as well as have children then the Man MUST be a part of that if they are a couple. Or if a couple decides 1 or the other is going to be a stay at home parent that also has to be supported. women have the absolute right to choose and noone except maybe a spouse gets to tell her what to do or have input unless its asked for. One woman I used to work with lives better because she'd gotten pregnant the baby didn't make it and her husband who'd already been married and had kids didn't want to try again. She actually got mad at me because I didn't want to have children and kept saying most men want to have a son. On the other hand she said that the abortion issue was men trying to tell women what to do with their bodies. She didn't seem to have a problem telling me that I should father a child. One friend of mine is in his late 50s has never lived way from home has never been married and went bankrupt spending money on stupid collectible said he thought was going to be worth money one day. The point is - she would have lost the job if she didn’t return after two weeks. Here in Germany no one is allowed to work or let anyone work BY LAW six weeks before the birth date and until 8 weeks after giving birth to a child. It is called Mutterschutz - protection of the mother. And a mother is protected from being fired the moment she is pregnant (yes, even when the boss doesn’t know) and for three years after giving birth. Not to mention the 14 months of paid parental leave where you monthly get 67 % of your last salary without paying taxes and if you didn’t work you will get at least a basic amount of money. So much for parental happiness…

Anna is once again on point. I don't have children, but I've seen the struggles of being a mother while working in early childhood and watching mothers that I know, including my own. There is so much to bring a mother physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially. No woman is ever fully prepared for it. No mother is ever taught how to mother her specific children because every child is different. It's a learning curve. What works for one child may not work for another. To all the mothers out there with grown children who love you, hats off to you. You did a great job. 👍

Five years ago i changed careers from Accountant to nurse, i was 50 when i made that decision. I am a 55 year old childess and happily married happy woman - i choose not to have children. Dying alone is not synonymous to childless people, i have seen a lot of old people die alone because of family fight, that is the saddest kind of death, knowing you have children but they have no interest in seeing you or being there in your final hours. So if you are having children to not die alone, good luck!
@Christie_Love

As a nurse who has previously worked in long term care facilities aka nursing homes... I would say that about half of the residents (patients) were dumped in there by their children...and they rarely visit. So much for that "but if you don't have kids, who's gonna take care of you when you get old?" Probably the same people who'll be taking care of you...the nursing home staff.

I'd argue that having kids just because you want them to take care of you when you're old and sick is pretty selfish and heartless. Watching a parent die is excruciating
@thandie67

@@Budrica watch anyone die is excruciating, however, that is not an excuse to not be present during orwhilst and then after the deal. Say good bye to your loved one sonthey knownthey are not alone. I don't think the arguement is that people are having children so that they take care of them when they are old, it is saying to childless adults that, because they choose to not have kids, they will die alone. To which I say, bullshit.

A guy on fox news told you to or else you'd be a loser? A cultural force took your choice away? None of my nieces and nephews were planned - was that not selfish of my siblings to create whole humans with their own pains, illnesses, and struggles without so much as even thinking about it beforehand??? People are allowed to make choices, and there's nothing selfish about yours vs the choices or lack thereof people with kids made

It's more patriarchal BS. It isn't even about anti-choice. It is about anti women. These men are so afraid of not having enough power that they have to put their boot on someone else's neck. Women are easier to do that to because we don't pick up 2 X 4's and whack someone who pisses us off over the head. If we did....this power struggle would be over.
