In their first audition, it must have gone unnoticed that Charlotte cued Johnny to hold for a measure on the intro, when he jumped the gun. She then lost focus, and jumped from her part, to his.... and still continued. In short, from his first syllable, Charlotte rescued him, and took a serious shot in the gut, from Simon, for it. "Gutsy" doesn't say it right. She's showed enormous courage and friendship, and at 16, deserved a lot better from Simon than his callous 'dump her' remark.
@pauladouglass94566 жыл бұрын
OneVoiceMore I know this is an old thread but I have to agree with you. From what I saw in the 3 BGT videos of them, Johnathan looked to Charlotte several times for cues. While I certainly agree they have wildly different singing styles. I think it works for them and is certainly unique. As far as training, they are 16 and 17. Don't know how long they've been at this. I agree. Charlotte is an amazing singer but doesn't get as much credit as Jonathan. So let's open my book of proof and answers since I am the only person on earth holding all of them. Umm...well....interesting. I found a very interesting question that I believe may shed some light on this anomaly. Flipping through the pages of the past I found something very interesting. Céline Dion & Andrea Bocelli played together in a very similar way. So my questions is this: Would Céline Dion of had the same issue as Charlotte has if she wasn't already known for being a star singer? I'm thinking yes she would of had the same problem. Conclusion: Despite the difference in tone and vocal balance, they are perfect together. (I personally love Charlotte's voice and I believe Charlotte is as much of a star singer as Jonathan is. They are perfect together. Simon suggested splitting them apart and I believe that would have been a devastating mistake. They are much stronger signers together. The music would not be as beautiful if they were singing alone. And Simon later acknowledged that splitting them apart would have been a huge mistake and together they formed an amazing, unique and beautiful chemistry. Simon openly admitted that their performance together was one of the best he has ever witnessed!)

Charlotte is definitely has an exquisite voice when she performs solo but there's something about Johnathan, his voice and the ability he has to sing like he's the best storyteller with transcending every single emotion is just another level and would fade away anyone who's singing besides him.
@thaisbandeiragomesvolpinimacha Жыл бұрын
I think it’s because he’s so emotional. But this is not a bad criticism… I sing too, and I’m too emotional. Of course I’m aware I’m not as outstanding as him, but my emotions really come out of mt body in an unbelievable way, I just pust them All in and off of me. Music is everything! I’ve always thought that music lovers and people Who work it out tend to be like that. I have a strong perception of that pattern of personality into art in general. Edit: she’s Also so soo good, and I’m really proud of how she could handle that pressure, and do an amazing job with it. Years have gone by, I remembered this and searched for this. And I literally felt it in my bones as if it was the first time I was listening to this masterpiece and seeing that beautiful friendship. They have reached almost All of my life goals, and they were so young! I feel proud of them, not to mention I started dreaming again.

I really do not like Simon Cowell, but I agreed with him at the audition. I thought Charlotte would hold Jonathan back. But I gotta say, this performance, from BOTH of them, sent chills up my spine. Bravo, Jonathan, for standing up for Charlotte. Bravo, Charlotte, that was beautiful.

Gutsy to start with Charlotte but this song showcased both their talents separately and unified terrifically.
@terrimorrison285710 жыл бұрын
I think they had to start with Charlotte, otherwise her voice would've gotten "lost" with Jonathan's as strong as it is. Certainly not saying anything against Charlotte, I think she's a good singer, but her voice is not as strong as Jonathan's. And I absolutely agree that this song was excellent for them!
@xxkomebackkidxx10 жыл бұрын
Agreed. She would have been overshadowed with Jonathon's voice as every loves his story. I think this was an excellent song to showcase them both.

Han Li The interesting thing about your comment is that Charlotte is younger than Jonathan. She was 16 at that time, Jonathan 17. But girls mature faster than boys, it's a well known fact.

When the show ended Simon signed them to his SYCO record label, for 1M British Pounds. They did 2 albums and tour together. Then SONY offered them each a Solo Contract. Charlotte Jaconelli's, album was released first. After, she returned to Music Art's School and graduated. She now has a successful career in Musical Theatre which was always her dream. She has performed in London's West End! Jonathan Antoine has gone on to great success, he's released 4 successful solo albums, and his 2019 sold out concerts in Toronto were filmed for American PBS TV, which shows them during pledge drives. Watch his 3 recent videos "How Great Thou Art" (His Mum's Favorite) from his live streamed Christmas concert, and "Amazing Grace/Grazia" and "These Are The Special Times/Momenti Splendidi"(Won a Best Music Video Award) These videos are STUNNING to watch and listen to. He has a U.S. Tour in April 2021, with a return to Toronto.

Around 2:14, when they began to harmonize, my eyes literally filled with tears. It is a rarity to find an operatic duet so effective and so goddamn beautiful- Jonathan and Charlotte had something very special, and instead of withering under bright stage lights, it came alive.

Thanks to Jonathan's loyalty and friendship, and he probably knew how good Charlotte was, and that her ability was not shown at the first audition, the decision to stay together he made enabled us to have the opportunity to hear this amazing duo. The most beautiful duo ever.

Jonathan has an extraordinary voice but in their going separate ways I feel something magic will be lost. Yes he will have success and perhaps she will too with that tremendous voice but for me the sound was both.......
@stevesmith319910 жыл бұрын
I agree Valinda...there is something unique and special about their voices together. Part of their power when they sing together is they synchronize the vibrato together which just drives the sound even more. But I believe it is the harmony of their spirits that blends the sound into one, a harmony that's seated deeper than the vocal chords. I believe this is what sets these two so far apart from any other duo I have EVER heard...what you call "magic", Valinda.
@patrickgaasche282210 жыл бұрын
The magic may be gone for the moment, but maybe destiny...or their producers begging them, lol, will bring them back together eventually. Young stars don't follow their heart, they follow their agents big selling words, which usually causes a split. Hopefully they realize over time their building of each other emotionally and through talent will be cause for a reunion. Not if just voices but of souls.

Wow, I'm just blown away by these two. I know they split up for creative reasons and we are so lucky to have the work they've done together. Charlotte sounds so beautiful here. And Jonathan is so powerful. I really believe he will be the next Pavarotti. On that level.
@smilysht23810 жыл бұрын
I am going to speculate here but I think Charlotte purposefully downplayed herself in the first audition to showcase her low confidence friend because she wanted him to be the star and for him to have most of the praise, and she knew his singing would totally blow every bodies minds. that is what I think she did and it was a brilliant strategy for the second performance because they showed so much improvement from the first one that it totally wowed the judges a second time
@ashleyl36996 жыл бұрын
she has explained before that what happened was, when Jonathan messed up the beginning and started too early she came in early to help him out, which put her in a key that she could not sing well in and it just went downhill from there.

i never watched the show but i have to disagree with simon. it was not one of the best performances, IT WAS THE BEST PERFORMANCE. i don't particularly like opera [in fact i like hard rock] but i recognize talent, and this performance was perfect to me. they say good opera can make you cry, laugh, gasp, and rejoice. well let me tell you,... this is good opera without the acting!!!

The duet of Charlotte and Jonathan is perfect in chemistry & friendship. Initially, Simon C's advice to dump Charlotte paved the way to bring out the best in them. Bravo and you opted to stay with her on the Final of BGT. Congratulations!😊
@ginnykrauskopf78538 жыл бұрын
If you think about the load Charlotte was carrying in the first audition...16 years old and auditioning for BGT plus getting Jonathan out there. Would he get through it and show what he could do, or would he fall apart, throw up, pass out? Her voice was shrill at times, and no wonder. The look on her face when they finished, just before Simon spoke, tells it all. For the semi-final, she had a lot less stress and could concentrate on her part. She did say in the documentary that she looked fierce because she was trying not to cry. She nearly panicked before they went on, worried that Simon would be critical of her again.
