Mike Bossy, my favourite Islander by far, was born to score goals. He was a deadly sniper.

One of the most underrated play by play announcers in hockey… Jim Robson… I just love the guy… He truly is the best in my opinion… Good health to you Jim!
@bauerpowerca4 ай бұрын
I watched Game 2 and Game 3 back to back. The HNIC crew in Game 2, Bob Cole, Dick Irvin and Gary Dornhoefer (Gary was also in the booth in this game), were obvious homers for Vancouver. But here is Jim Robson, the actual Vancouver broadcaster, doing a great job of calling the game both ways and not letting his understandable love of the Canucks show. I also appreciated Howie Meeker. The man just burst with appreciation when he saw good hockey, he didn't care which team it was.

Hockey Night In Canada's broadcast until it was sold to Rogers was world class. The best hockey if not sports broadcast on the planet. Now, it's just another hockey broadcast. Bland, corporate, American and boring. What BBC was for comedy and drama, CBC was for sports.

The 82 Canucks were so remarkably similar to the 78 Leafs. Both had Roger Nielson as their coach, Tiger Williams as their enforcer. Both had hot goalies in Richard Brodeur and Mike Palmateer. Both were one line defense oriented teams with a bunch of plumbers. Both were among the best fighting teams in the league. Both had great playoff runs but got a dose of reality playing the dynasty of the time. Both teams were supposed to have a promising future that went sour.

Thanks for the history. The 78 Toronto series I missed. Similar to the 2002 series in its fighting. But 78 Isles were bigger favorites.

36:44 a perfect example of how referees cover their own butts --- no call was going to be made on this play even though he was looking directly at the infraction --- he was about to let it go until Bourne of the Islanders picked up the puck and began heading for the net --- immediately his hand went up. Can't let himself look bad if a goal results from his non-call.

The kill of the 5 on 3 power play in the first period totally took the wind out of Vancouver’s sails. The Islanders just took the game over after that.

It blows my mind just how different everything is. So few fans in the crowd wearing canucks jerseys or even shirts. The NHL wasn't the giant corporate whore that it is today.... almost no ads anywhere. All the music was just an old fashioned hockey orghan. Everything was just so... basic. Even the goalies just had plain brown pads, looked like they got them for $50 at Canadian Tire.
