For years, we've assumed that button presses were necessary to complete video games. However, this is not necessarily the case. By undergoing brain surgery to integrate a Nintendo 64 console into my head, I can now play through Mario 64 entirely within my headspace. This removes the possibility to use TAS, however it adds a new way to explore the game, I'm calling the synapse challenge.

I realize no-joysticking the entire game is impossible but I still think it would be fun to try and find a minimum number of joystick input frames. I think it would be funny to see Mario jump through a level for 2 hours just to turn for one frame and then spend another 2 hours getting the star. My speculation is that the blue coin's trajectory would miss mario because of the ground pound, so the one coin he got is still more optimal than spawning a more valuable coin you cant get to anyway

Also opening doors (as it seems from the first video in the community no-joystick playlist) requires holding forward, so opening the castle, going upstairs, etc require the joystick for at least a couple frames Edit: It turns out there are methods for opening doors without the joystick, (ie getting burned to open the first door in BBH) but they’re not useful for the vast majority of doors (so far)
