SM64 - Make Wiggler Squirm - No Joystick Allowed

I collect the star Make Wiggler Squirm in Tiny-Huge Island without using the joystick.
At 4:34, I use an obscure trick which goes as follows: If you tap A fast enough while being held by chuckya or king bob-omb, you can actually escape their grasp before they throw you. This is extremely difficult to do without TAS or a turbo controller. The trick was helpful in this run, since it allowed me to manually escape chuckya's grasp at just the right angle, instead of manipulating the RNG to try to get him to throw me in that direction.

The part that amazed me the most was that you can take damage at 5:41. I never knew that. Was shocked that it counted as "ground" there so that you can take it.

So it was a matter of speed falling? I thought it was that we hit it every time we go in there, but because you backflipped from higher "ground" then you had enough falling height to take damage.

Actually, both seem like feasible solutions. I was basing my idea off of the switch in Hazy Maze Cave. If you fall fast enough, then you can touch the switch before the water causes you to go into swimming mode. This seems similar to that.
