Purple is still great. Just heard them 8 months ago with "songs that built rock". Gillan was in amazing vocal form, the best I`ve heard from him in many years. The rest of the band played superbly. Bananas is one of Purples best albums. Deep Purple is still Deep Purple. I`m sure Jon Lord would agree. R.I.P., Jon, the best rock organist ever and a wonderful person.

Thank you so much, great sound quality and picture of the original WDR broadcast. When Rockpalast broadcasted this originally in 1985 they made us wait til about 2 am because that dwarf Prince was also live in concert. I was a little dissapointed about the state of Gillan's voice back then, but never mind eh? I think he ruined it on that notorious Black Sabbath Born Again Tour where he did a great job.

Please don't be too tough on Ian's vocals. Don't forget that by this time (1985) he was a forty year old and singing this repertoire is going to test anyone. I should know. I sing lead vocals in a Deep Purple tribute band and nothing gave me more respect for his voice than trying to sing these songs. I can't imagine fronting up night after night to sing this stuff.
@walkingwounded38246 жыл бұрын
I get it, I had to cover Ozzy and Gillian. I wouldn't criticize a vocalist who is singing that kind of music or any other. Problem is, these days kids are used to vocal guide tracks and synching. They think that's how people sound live! Respect bruh!

He had a bad cold plus vocal nodes during this particular gig I ment. Sadly it was the only full lenght DP show from the 'Perfect Strangers' tour that has surfaced in pro-shot quality yet. He was struggling with the vocal nodes through this tour, and even for some time in 1987/88. Gillan cut down on the cigarettes and the hard booze during excessive touring after that, plus he sobered up when he was out of Purple. He var revitalised and sagn better when he came back in 1992/93. Sobered up.
