When I was 18 in 1992 he was a young lead singer in a band that made a large percentage of alternative young men grow their hair, dress with lumberjack blouses, torn jeans and army boots. The band shirts of that era where cool too. A lot of half sleeve RHCP mother's milk shirts, Nirvana, Obscure doom metal shirts and the occasional Joy Division shirt. When wearing a band shirt was a sign of devotion and people became best friends because of them...

He’s told that story a few times over the years but essentially Dave Letterman singing the song endlessly for weeks and weeks started to drive Eddie crazy. Dave would look into the camera and say ‘Eddie, Eddie’ and sing that part of the song. So when Eddie was in New York for some other thing he decided to stop in as a surprise. He worked it out with Paul Schaefer but Letterman didn’t know about it. After Ed did the bit of the song he got back in a cab and went to the airport and flew back home. Then he could watch tv in peace again cuz Letterman stopped taunting him. Up until that point PJ had refuse to do any appearances on late night.
