The part that really struck a chord was that beard attempts (I've done/ am at this stage). This video has really inspired me to give it a go again. Thank you and be safe man.

I am not sure what to think. It's a very well done video, detailed, your voice is very calming, etc. And you've got some nice encouraging comments from Brayan Morgan and others. But I think that men these days are concerned about their beards just too much. Maybe I am wrong but my understanding is that we grow beards just to bring that masculine manly look back. But If you have (and I am not saying you but in general) 5 different beard/mustache brushes, 20 different oils, shampoos, balms, etc. that means you are doing something wrong.

Hey man, I'm 18 at the minute but when I was 15 I had a brain tumor which resulted in 8 moths of chemo and a month of radiotherapy. The reason light passes through the beard is because all the hairs grow at different speeds so the hairs are different lengths! Trim it back to where it’s darkest and then start the process again, trim every 4 months or so, eventually all the shorter hairs catch up and you get a little more length every time but the beard is as full as it can be! I’m about to start my second beard journey. I’m about a month in atm! Keep growin brotha!

Guy with a year and a half long beard here. Biggest advice is to just leave it. Shape up the cheek lines and neck a bit (just above Adam’s apple) but leave it. Until at least 6 months then maybe go to the hairdressers and get some shape into it. But then leave it again. Slap some beard oil on morning and night. Beard balm to tame it and you’re done. Beard oil and balm is the key. On a morning my beard is ugly but once brushed and oiled it’s a different story. If you have a messy curly beard then get a round brush and hair dry it on cool so it’s a bit more tamed. Do that after a shower when it’s wet with some beard oil on. Condition it every other day in the shower and do not over wash it. Once a week if that with beard not hair shampoo. My cheeks are thin for the first 3 months then fill out. Don’t over complicate it. Yes it will look like crap and people will comment but just push through and eventually it will all fill out. Also age has a big part to play. I couldn’t grow a beard in my 20s. I’m 30 now and it’s thick and about 7 inches long.

I started my beard growth journey in March this year after failing and abandoning the idea several times in 2020 during the pandemic. It's a whole new experience and a big challenge for me because every time I see my beard in the mirror, I only see the imperfections. And when the thought of giving up again and shaving everything once more comes back to me, I go back to this video and find an incredible motivation not to do it. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement.

Lads listen to young Harry he is wise beyond his years. I inherited MPB from my father and I went the minoxidil route and then spent a fortune on hair transplants which didn't work. My hair loss was delayed for years as I have been taking Propecia for my prostate at an age younger than most men. The pandemic may have been a blessing as I had a hard time getting to a barber so I used my head as it were and started to buzz it shorter and shorter to take the shock effect away a wise decision. After listening to this fine gent I said "what the blank" and shaved it off. I only wish I had done it years ago I would have saved myself a lot of money and anguish. As for the beard I must say Harry is spot on once again, don't give in to shaving it off just let it grow, let it grow, let it grow. As with the head this takes courage and most importantly patience. If one is lucky enough to have the great head shape and facial structure as he and I do, trust me you will not regret it. It may be psychological, but the shaved head counterbalanced with the mid to long beard "rocks it" as he would say. I can't quite explain it, but it gives one an almost erotic appearance, perhaps the beard with the baby bum smooth head, but I cannot stop touching my head. The only departure is that my hair was all grey so I have been dying my beard with the most popular beard dye on this side of the pond and again for me it looks so bloody natural. I am as happy as an Ipswich clam, Ipswich Ma. that is. Everyone is entitled to their opinion as to his beard length, but in about one more month or so mine shall look just about the same as his; great in my opinion. Lastly, if your girlfriend doesn't like your shaved head or your beard in her face, get a new girlfriend or better yet go with a guy they will be on you like white on rice with a lot less psychological drama. I am now sixty-five years old and most people think I look twenty years younger, so much so that I have to constantly prove my age to get a senior citizen discount. There are times when a man has to do what a man has to do!

He has a really good point when it comes to growing a beard. I don’t have the best beard by far I’m almost 26 years old been growing my beard for 2 years. Best advise to give is not to compare yourself to others with a bigger fuller beard cause there is always going to be someone with a better beard. Grow what you can and rock it. Do it cause you enjoy it and cause you like it, have fun with it! A beard can sometimes take a month to grow some guys are lucky but other times it takes years.

Great video. I had no idea it was almost 30mins long - it flew by. It was really interesting to follow the stages of your beard journey, especially because I think I've had a similar path. It took me years to really give my beard a chance to come into its own. A couple of years ago I went deep into beard routines and products and I've been hooked ever since. It's so true what you say about knowing the limits of your beard. Once you get that first taste of a big beard, it's so tempting to just let it grow and grow. Now I find myself looking back at some of my content and wishing I didn't stick with the big beard for as long as I did. Recently I've had some big trims and it just clicked that shorter, not-so-huge styles suit me much more. It's all part of the journey though, and that's the fun of it. I love how I'm still learning ways to significantly improve my beard just by subtly changing my trimming and styling routines. I look forward to joining the bald brotherhood at sometime not too far down the line as well. You've made it much less daunting for me. Thanks!

Main point is, stop comparing your beard to others and give it time! I have a thin/patchy beard but when I let it grow in for atleast 3 months it starts to look okayish. Okay enough for me to wanna keep it. Not many people have full coverage after a week, that's if you're blessed with beard genetics. Most people need more time to grow.

At least you’re able to blame your ethnicity. Both my parents being of Russian decent, I have to deal with the ethnic and genetic shame of my face’s idea of growing a beard being long “crackhead” whiskers thinly spaced apart everywhere…It’s the worst of both worlds cuz I looked stupid as hell if I don’t shave for a week, but also get razor burn every time I shave. Also only place facial hair doesn’t grow is where it’s supposed to connect to leave a goatee. There’s tons of channels talking about using Rogaine for growing a fuller beard, gonna give it a try.

Hi Harry, great video! I'm a dermatologist and I think the reason why you lost some of your beard gains was because you didn't taper off minoxidil. Whenever you quit cold turkey, your body doesn't have time to adapt, which results in massive shedding. I think that if you had used minoxidil for 18 months and slowly tapered off, you would have kept all of your gains. I disagree with the point you made of you losing all or most of your minoxidil gains. The minoxidil definitely gave a large majority of what you have now when you look at the before and after pictures. Sure age played a small role, but the terminal hairs you gained from using minoxidil are evident. I understand that you don't wanna use it anymore, but it really is 1-2 years where most guys get terminal or peak growth from minoxidil. You don't have to rely on minoxidil for life in terms of beard growth because beard hair reaches terminal class, unlike head hair which has androgen receptors and will fall off if you discontinue use. If you ever decide to use it in the future, just know to taper off and use it for at least 18 months. Like this comment so I know you read it and keep making these awesome videos!

As someone who use minox for beard growth, let me say that sometimes 5-6 months is enough. I went from some patches on the sides and stache to a full beard within 2 months or using it. But the best use of it would be to use the first 2 months on a clean shaved face for a better spread. Its been 2 years now since i ended the course and my beard is even way better then it was before. So minoxidil helps, and fast, u just have to do quite of a research of how to use it, cause not everywhere is a good and reliable info about this.

This seriously makes me debate whether or not I should try growing mine out in 2021! I never made it past that 2-3 month mark either. I would always end up looking at myself in the mirror thinking: “Nah bro, time to shave it off”, and then always feel sad and disappointed with myself afterwards 😂

Having been plagued with a terrible hairline ‘M’ shaped since 18, and bald spot since 24 I had to shave my head. Gave me so much more confidence as I was always conscious. And this video has given me more confidence to work with my beard, 4 months growth and was considering a beard trim, might leave it for another couple before hand. Amazing Video 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I have thin beard on my cheeks as well, so I used to trim off the thin parts for the first 3 months and grow something like Khabibs chin strap, but after some youtube research I decided to let the beard on the cheeks grow out as well and now after 5 months its looking pretty good. I would suggest u to comb it to the left with a blow dryer, after that comb all beard to the right side with a blow dryer, then comb it up and finally comb it down and it will be straight without curls

What I lacked is just the patience to let it grow. So thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm your age. For the longest time, I couldn't grow "proper" sideburns. Not that the beard was scarce over there, but it was difficult to get the beard to climb higher on my cheeks. Then I switched barbers about 7 months ago and the new guy refused to trim them... he asked me to let it grow out. It looked dodgy for the first 3 months and I was super tempted to give up and go back to the old trim... but I held on. Today, I've achieved some remarkable volume in the cheeks and women compliment the beard all the time.

@@hasselett Might not be that he doesn't see it. Might just be because he genuinely enjoys having his big beard. Like myself, I have a great jaw line but I like to have facial hair, I choose to covet up the jawline with a beard because I just like the feeling of having a beard.

Not sure if you’re self conscious about your hair line at all, but either way, you might want to consider looking into SMP for your scalp. With your head shape, facial structure, etc., SMP would give you a really natural buzzed head look and make you look 10 yrs younger. I spent 3k on mine about 1.5 years ago and it’s by far the best investment I’ve made. I’m rather pasty and never had the disciple to get ripped, so I used to feel unable to leave the house without a hat. It’s incredibly freeing not having to think about matching clothes to hats and seeing a version of myself I feel confident about again when looking in the mirror.

tbh, I used minoxidil for 1.5 years and i have kept i would say 80% of all my gains. I've been of for months now (almost 4 to 6 months) and i really didn't have much before i started and it worked great. I wasn't consistent for the full 1.5 years only fo the first 8 months and there was a lot other things that I could have tried like dermarolling and what not and tbh. It was a fun ride. I highly recommend that you give minoxidil a shot because not everyone loses their gains. You just need to stay on it long enough for the beards to terminalize and "mature".

It's true that sometimes the beard comes in with age. I first grew mine out after high school. I shaved my head completely right after graduation, shaved face clean, and then let everything grow. I had the beard for 10 years. It wasn't a magnificent piece of art, but it was decent. Nothing that I felt self-conscious about. I then went clean shaven for 10 years. When we went into lockdown, I decided to let the beard go. In 6 weeks it looked better than the first 6 months the first time I grew it out. And now almost 6 months after that I'm very happy with it. Yes, the awkward stage is a bitch, but get through that and you're good!!

I often feel the strongest beards on guys are similar to the strongest hairlines. I’ve read a lot of things about male celebrities that do modelling or are on camera a lot, they use hair fibres and have their hair made to look thicker in post production edits. I often think with beards it’s quite similar to our head hair. People upload the best photos they can get on insta, but the audience doesn’t ever know the work they put in to make it look how it is. Basically what I’m trying to say is how much we compare ourselves to others and become so critical over our own faces/hair/bodies. It’s not healthy, like you said natural is better, and it’s all about accepting what your body is and what makes you you.
