They were always a great band regardless of the line-up. Lynott was a musical and poetical genius. His legacy and the Thin Lizzy legend will live on for many more decades to come.

Ok. So I’m 57 and a lifelong rocker particularly classic, 60’s through 90’s, and was this many years old when I learned John Sykes was one of the guitarists in Thin Lizzy! Incredible. He was great here but man, he turned almost superhuman between these years and whitesnake. Unreal.

They blew the US thing on the Bad Rep tour. Too much drugs, alcohol, fighting, and cancelled shows due the above. They tried again on the Black Rose tour, but Gary bailed on them for the same reasons and no American promoter wanted anything to do with them. So they destroyed their chances in the US all on their fucked up own.

John Sykes was IMO, the only guitarist in Thin Lizzy to rival Gary Moore for technical ability, feel, tone and creativity, albeit with a much harder sound and direction than Moore. Fucking genius! Whitesnake became the biggest band in the world off the back of the album co written with John Sykes and IMO, Phil Lynott was 10 times the songwriter that David Coverdale ever could've been! The Whitesnake album was written directly after Lizzy split and so most of those riffs would've been worked into that Thin Lizzy magick!

I've noticed (thank God) that this is in stereo. I know it was made in stereo for the stereo FM simulcast with BBC Radio 1, but every time a TV station shows and "Sight And Sound: In Concert" (including the Thin Lizzy episode) it's in mono. BBC Four is a big culprit of this. Was this broadcast on a TV station as it is (in stereo) or was it broadcast on a radio station and then dubbed over the TV picture? Either way, thanks very much for uploading. 👌👌
