Thin Lizzy - We Will Be Strong (Live @ Bristol 1980)

This is Lizzy playing "We Will Be Strong", live at Colston Hall in Bristol, England on 24 May 1980.
To my knowledge, this is the only recording that features Thin Lizzy playing "We Will Be Strong" during a concert. (not counting the Cork or Hammersmith soundcheck versions)

I think "We will be strong" is the most underrated Thin Lizzy song of all time. The album version is incredible good, with fantastic guitar solos. I have always thought that it is one of the very best Lizzy songs.

You will notice the reverberation that was characteristic of the Colston hall in this recording that makes it sound muffled, but when you were there as I was in 1976 at my first ever concert on their jailbreak tour the sound was incredible, it literally picked you up and threw you around, my ears were ringing for 3 days and I couldn't hear the teachers at school, needless to say my hearing has never been as good since that fateful night; but boy was it wort it!

Steffan Pila I have a CD called "What Fate The Future Holds Vol. 2." There's a soundcheck version of "We Will Be Strong" on the 2 Disc CD from the Hammersmith Odeon back in 1980 where you can hear the keyboards from Darren Wharton at the very end of the song. Long Live Thin Lizzy!!!

It's a shame that they didn't put this song into their regular repertoire because it's one of their finest. I'd rank it alongside Sabbath's "You Won't Change Me" as an unnoticed classic that could've been a massive song. I love The Boys are Back in Town as much as the next person, but that's the only song of theirs you ever hear. I'd rather hear this one!

Thanks man love this song different lyrics than the US version which is all I can speak to. I will have to look I have an old cassette of them playin in my hometown Albany, NY at a club JB Scotts on this tour they may have played it there. I'll let ya know. Thanks blacksabfan!!!

@blacksabfan I asked Scott and Brian about the unreleased material thats gonna be made into an album. First of all they said that its more like 70 songs than 700 songs and that they havent had a chance to listen to all of it yet. Scott said that probably a small percentage would make it. Other than that they didn't really say much. Scott told me that once he blew his knee out which I didn't know and Darren tried and failed to get me a hotel room so I wasn't on the streets all night.

That was right before the show at the Santa Monica Civic (blowing his knee out). The only time I saw Thin Lizzy was with Scott sitting on a stool with a cast on his leg.

Hi blacksabfan, absoltuely great post! A truly underrated TL song in a very good live version. Another publicly very underrated song is "Heart Attack" from Thunder & Lightning, at least in my opinion. You haven't got any live version of this one? Maybe they never played it live in 83... I know there are a few rare live renditions of "Bad Habits", but no "Heart Attack". I especially like Scott's solo on that one as it perfectly fits the mood of the song.

No live versions of "Heart Attack" unfortunately. I play a version of "Heart Attack" on my acoustic guitar that is pretty bad ass though.

I count four different versions of We Will Be Strong's lyrics. Three of them are on KZbin, but I just found a secret one on the 2 disc vinyl version of Chinatown that I got from the UK. It's incredible! The demo version of the album is very aggressive, almost a punk album. If you like Chinatown and you can play records, I really recommend it!
