Another outstanding video! Two more things I think are very important are: 1) don’t drink the water and drink from fresh water bottles (sometimes they are refilled with local water), and 2) get mosquito repellent and watch for a black striped mosquito - especially if it bites you! The first one is for amoebic dysentery and the second, dengue fever. Both could or will cause hospitalization and the good news is that they are curable! You always are so refreshing, honest, and thoughtful! Paul is a very lucky man!

I have been going to the Philippines since 2003. Visiting all over from Manila, Quezon City to Zamboanga City in the south. It is a great place to visit. After you visit over the years one realizes that the people on the different islands are quite different and have their own way of doing and saying things. There are like 400 + dialects in the Philippines. I hope to come back once there is no more quarantine rules. Let's hope sooner than later. Happy Trails

Being respectful, kind, patient, and discrete is good advice no matter where you are. These should be practiced more in the West. The fact that they are often ignored makes the Philippines such an attractive destination.

Fantastic advice. Really useful and worth knowing. Most of it fairly universal and applies anywhere (avoid religion, don't flash the cash or watches, be respectful) The specific comment about texting a romantic date to say "Let me know when you arrive..." Amazed me. I now understand if you agree to meet at 8pm don't be sitting like a mug. INTERESTING. I would love to date someone as cool as you Mia so I will be mindful not to sit in a bar like Nobby-No-Mates stressing a NO-SHOW. I will just become more *AUSTIN POWERS* agree to meet at 8pm and then rock up at 10pm giving it the vibes of "Chill out babe... Dont get stressed my love. Its all groovy baby"

That policeman didn't kill those two because he lost face; he did it because he thought he could get away with it, but when the incident went viral and community outrage became evident, I am sure to the surprise of the officer, he got arrested and immediately jailed. Another thing about the incident, it was quite apparent the officer committed the killings with a dispassionate and matter of fact attitude. Crimes of passion are committed when people are not thinking clearly or rationally as is the case when people lose face.

Example : Since filipinos are almost ALL late at any given time it simply means a certain lack of respect and they KNOW IT. Example : I had an appointment with a bank manager. I was 7 minutes late and BEFORE he said good afternoon, he pointed out, looking at his watch, that he had better things to do than wait. SO,.... like many things here,.... You know, I’ve seen this video many times. Always the “don’t offend them... it’s not your country..” and I will never go out of my way to find trouble with the people here... But, maybe just maybe, Filipinos should learn how to take a little criticism without shooting or boloing someone?? Show up at the time they say they will..?? Learn how to talk about religion and politics at least a little without starting a major conflict..?? Quit looking to steal anything valuable that someone else has..??

If the people from the country dosen't learn how to have a conversation with out fighting or argument or threaten others just because he/she didn't like the others respond why be around people, the reason why most other countries have more economic stability is because of communication, people the fight for small things are just ignorant an uneducated , maybe that's why they're so many women left abandon with children with no fathers, they can't even agree how to keep a family together, but they aspect a foreign person to understand their situation. No matter the opinion of others you should be able to have a conversation to learn from each other.. put it like this without foriegn visitors the country will be, a lost world with no opportunity of growth, they just don't appreciate what most foreigners do in their country to help the growth of their economy.

The Philippines should be called “The Pearls of the Orient” as Filipinas are Pearls beyond price. Marrying a Filipina was the best thing that ever happened to me. After 17 years of marriage she still amazes me. She works so hard yet goes to a whole lot of trouble to be pretty and feminine for me. I’m a cynical man by nature but when I look into my girls eyes and see her love for me shining for me I know it’s for real and it makes my heart melt for her. So here’s some “Don’t do” based on General observations of traveling a lot to the Philippines and being part of a Filipino family, from an American male’s perspective how has had a very successful marriage with a Filipina. Don’t be an ugly American. You’re not going to find all the comforts of life you have in America. Deal with it. Don’t complain about it as you’ll just annoy the Filipinos who are a kind yet very proud people. Don’t underestimate the importance of family to a Filipina. Expect that she will be devoted to her entire extended family and fanatically devoted to her parents. Don’t be a noob when it comes to romancing a Filipina. Don’t go over the top but little things like writing her a romantic note. Giving her inexpensive gifts. Reminding her of little moments where she made you feel special. Sing her a song that shows how much you care for her and make that “Your special song for her”. Try to be creative too. For example, when I was courting my Filipina we went shopping at a mall. While walking she grabbed my hand. I knew this was special as Filipinas are not big on public displays of affection so I knew she really liked me when she did that. So a romantic idea popped into my head and while holding her hand I tapped the palm of her hand with my middle finger. She gave me a curious look so I whispered into her ear “if I tap your hand with my finger when holding hands it’s my secret way to tell you I love you.”. Her eyes got big and she the tapped the palm of my hand with her middle finger and said “If I tap your hand with my little finger it’s my secret way to tell you I want to make love with you.”. She then tapped the palm of my hand with her finger and smiled at me. Don’t underestimate a shy Filipina. If you’re with a group of Filipinas and one of them is being shy and quiet and hiding behind her cell phone she is probably the girl in that group that is most attracted to you but is afraid you’re not attracted to her. If you do find her attractive say something nice or flirty or funny to her. If she looks up and makes eye contact with you then immediately looks away but then immediately glances back at you in the eye for a second…she’s attracted to you. Make the first move but be subtle about it. Like slipping her a note with your phone # that says “please call me”. It would be the rare single Filipina who doesn’t call you back…and rather quickly too. Don’t be pushy with a Filipina about sex. Here’s a secret about Filipinas most western men don’t know. Before a Filipina will even date you she will think things through about you being her lover and if the answer is no she probably won’t date you. If she does agree to date you don’t worry about sex. It will probably happen sooner than later as she has already decided yes to that question in her mind or she wouldn’t be dating you. Just pay attention to her body language and when you’re in private she will let you know without saying so when the time is right and don’t be surprised if that happens on the first or second date. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that because this can happen rather quickly by American standards that Filipinas are easy as if they are not attracted to you and don’t think you have something on the ball as a man they simply won’t go out with you and Filipinas will rarely date a man they have placed in the friend zone. Rather she is wanting to show you she does think you’re special and wants to imprint that on you. So don’t be cynical and treat the moment like the special one it is for her…and you. Don’t turn your nose up at Filipino cooking just because it’s not what you’re used too. Filipinas love their cuisine and enjoying their food will let her and her entire family know you respect them and their culture. If they try to get you to eat balut don’t be a pussy. Eat it with gusto and a straight face. Balut may look repugnant but it’s taste and texture are that of a hard boiled egg with some tasteless chewy bits of collagen. You will score big brownie points with your Filipina and her family if you can eat balut with your sangfroid intact. Don’t, ever, ever, ever look at another attractive woman when on a date with a Filipina. That’s instant Tampo and there’s no better way to screw up a first date with a Filipina. Keep your eyes on her and tell her how amazing she looks. Don’t put up with your Filipina getting jealous and trust me that will happen no matter how beautiful you think she is. React swiftly and confidently. Look her intensely in the eyes that you’re not going to put up with that. Then let her know you would walk through a lake of fire for her that you would sacrifice your life without a thought to protect her from harm and that she means more to you than anyone in the whole wide world and if that ain’t good enough for her than she’s with the wrong man.”. I did that with my Filipina the first time she went Tampo with jealously. Not only did she start crying and telling me she was only jealous cause she really loves me but the make up sex was incredible. Though she does get a little bit jealous from time to time that was the last major episode as I was dead serious when I told her I would sacrifice my life for the love of her and to protect her from harm. Trust me here guys. If you demonstrate how much you love your Filipina she will double down on her love for you. Don’t take your Filipinas love for you for granted. Filipinas are fantastic lovers and I’m not just talking about sex (though in general Filipinas rock in that department too). I’m talking the full scope of love a woman can give to her man and you by God better show her the respect and love she has earned. In this respect Filipinas take great pride in being good lovers and in taking care of her man and that’s a pride Filipinas have justly earned. If you’ve chosen the right Filipina she will love you through thick and thin. Don’t be naive about Filipinas as they are like all peoples and have their faults and weaknesses. A few are bad and will try to take advantage of you. So use your head. Don’t fall in love with a Filipina just because she has a pretty face and don’t BS yourself about her. If her character doesn’t add up move on to one who’s character does. Anyways these are just some don’ts from the American male perspective you guys should consider if you are interested in a Filipina for a serious relationship which is something I highly recommend.

Hi Mia, another great video, very informative and funny. While I agree with Paul that time is precious, I like the idea of not rushing around as a way of life. We Americans in particular are reinforced by our society that we must always be doing something, always busy, always trying to be better and have more and more. As a result we place more importance on things than we do people. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just sit around, hanging out with family, doing nothing at all...but you're doing it together. Also, try this saying on for size and see if you like it...they're not on time, they're not late, how about they are Fashionably Filipino! LOL

Definitely do NOT want to insult any filipino, especially the males, in public and I always try to make sure other foreigners are aware that to do this can be very unhealthy and always treat the ladies respectfully. For some reason, the LBH (losers back home) feel that they can be a**hol*es all the time but this comes back to bite them at some point. DO NOT try to win a disagreement, just smile and move on, easy.

Filipino time is the clock running on feelings, not on mechanical gears. I think, that is beautiful. Respecting feelings is the recipe for happy life. I, however, being from America, would inform the host if I am running late, and would happily welcome my guests who are late.

I can sometimes be late too. Here in the west others can get moody or even angry if you are late even if it to meet with friends or family. I do my best to turn up on time or early. I do like the idea that when in the Philippines I will be able to relax more and if I get held up or running late that no one will be stressing out over it. Yes we get pick pockets here specially in big cities like London in crowded places. I always careful to keep my money close to me. I not the show off type with expensive watches or phones or designer clothes or bags so I should be okay there. Respect and being polite is always best and show a good character. If for example I try some food and I not like it I will just say thankyou and I would also like to try other tasty foods too. It won't be long before you taste something yummy anyway as Filipino food is so nice. Best example I can give for that as so far as I not know of or wish to say anything bad. Again my respect and manners for you all.

Tell her you have an incurable condition and she will have to take care of you. Or you are going broke for some reason. Let her think that it's her decision to dump you. Not sure if you are just kidding but that's the type of thing that would work.

I agree the most beautiful women in the world come from the Philippines. I have heard many filipinos saying bad things about their country. Respecting elders is something everyone should do everywhere in the world. I have learned about the trust thing there and have taken steps to protect myself when I am there. I did not have anything flashy when my wallet was stolen. I only wear old clothes so I don't look like I have money.

Have you ever been to Thailand? I agree many women are beautiful in the Philippines. I married one but the average Thai girl is prettier than the average Filipina. They are usually thinner and have nicer hair that doesn't need straightened and better noses.

I have a question for you: the last one don’t show expensive things in public. How do vloggers do it? Bc I hear this advice a lot but vloggers are literally out there with their fancy cameras and lenses and gimbals and drones. Aren’t they sitting ducks? I realize some use a smaller footprint, like a phone or go pro. But a drone or dslr is kind of hard to hide.

So what your saying is life is cheep and valueless , and murdering is okay especially when it comes from the top. Corruption is good and exploitation of people is good. I often wonder why there has never been meaningful change since Marcos was ousted. Shallow human values lead only one way. Of course this does not mean you cannot be nice civil and genuinely interested in people their lives and goals and encouraging as I am with my phillipino lady and family. It makes me sad as without growth my little family has a limited future as the phillipino attitude will leave the Philippines further behind than they should be. There are many true and inspiring people in the Philippines and organisations but they struggle in what is basically a lawless society for some. I still see hope and that justices foothold will increase. Thankyou for adding to my knowledge

The Filipino culture values family and that is a good thing. But their culture is a leftist culture. Lying is predominate. As Mia said in the video, friends will say that are coming when they are not. They envy instead of work to change things. They limit success to the corrupt. The vote buying of barangay captains cements the corruption. The price controls limit supply which requires imports thus diminishing resources. Sadly, the Phil will get poorer in the coming years. Which will lead to some very ugly changes.. Duterte has already spoken out against whitey. If His view becomes predominant, the Phil will go down a bad road. Biden's war on fossil fuels is driving up all prices. This will savage the Phil. Unless and until Filipinos embrace truth, hard work and the free market, life there will be hell. I hope you live in the province and grow your own food. I am still planning to move the the Phil if I can get a ranch. The US is going downhill fast too

Hehe. I do all those things. I try not to. My daughters always explain to people that I’m not really upset etc. yep. There is no such thing as a fair fight in Philippines. They will grab a knife and stab you in the neck. The wealthy ones will pay someone $50.00 to kill you. If any Philippine person ever hassles you no one will come to your aide. You are on your own. Still i have made many friends in Pasig, Samar, siquijor, Bohol, and Dumaguete. I love it here.
