Chiming in from Duncraig. We fully reno'd a late 70's Roma 17' 6' single axle caravan a few years ago and it came up a treat. New floor/new walls/new ceiling (from Gunnersons- white walls theme / complete new internal fittout/new security screen door/modern style new hinged step/new axle-springs-shocks-electric brakes-rims & tyres. New split system reverse cycle aircon. New full height fridge & underbench freezer, island double bed with Orpho pillowtop mattress, modern benchtop with deep sink, new smart LED flat screen TV from Camec. Ours came with 2 x 4 seasons roof hatches in perfect cond. Added a large storage box to front drawbar. New carefree 16' rollout annex and external LED strip mode lighting. We have had many awesome holidays in it up at places like lancelin, Kalbarri, Coral bay etc & down south in the Dunsborough/Margs, Albany, Esperance regions. Tare weight 1,300kg & gross 1,700kg so it tows like a dream in our 2007 120 Prado as you are not towing a heavy slug which most modern caravans are. Wish i knew you were in the hunt for a vintage van as i would consider selling her as we bought another van recently - 1989 18' poptop as follows - Coromal "Seka 535" 18' dual axle-fully independent suspension/ poptop in exc cond as i want to kit this one out for fully off the grid and wanted a light poptop to get down those difficult tracks with low rooftop clearance (roof is no higher than the Prado when down which means good clearance from overhead branches when the going gets tough). Let me know if you want any advice or any pics as i have a flickr folio a can link.

While you have probably noted it make sure your layout with a full water tank will end up with minimum 10-15% of the total van weight as your ball weight otherwise it will tow horribly. Consider the weight of food and everything you will load into it. Tanks are usually just in front of the axles and anything of any weight is over the axles with equal weight each side.
