Also why would they want a goalie they would have to sign for term that would block their younger goalie prospects. They have Cossa who will likely be on the team next season or even possibly later this season. And they have Augustine right behind him too. I don't think they necessarily need an elite goalie until the rest of the roster is ready for a deep playoff run which it isn't right now. They'll probably barely make it in this year.

My thoughts: Red Wings would need to trade Cossa or Augustine, period. BOS wouldn't accept a trade without one of them, and tbh the Wings wouldn't want to block their progression anyway. In addition to that, a first round pick likely equals the value of Swayman - and this is probably light because the 1st would be presumed as a late-first. Then, they'd want a back-fill on goalie - Husso if we're lucky, Lyon if we aren't. Then, there's the cap gymnastics of opening at least $8M. Copp, Holl, Husso, Maatta come to mind. So we're probably talking another 1st round pick or 2nds and a prospect/Johansson to do that. So, summary: DET receives: Jeremy Swayman BOS receives: Cossa/Augustine, 1st round pick, Lyon/Husso Cap dump team receives: Andrew Copp, Olli Maatta (if Husso isn't traded), 1st round pick or 2 2nd round picks and Johansson. It's too many moving pieces to pull off imo, and we'd need to be 100% sure Kasper or Danielson will play in the NHL this season. And yeah, Swayman's good, but I think the risk is too much to bet on too - unless we wanted to pull Brandon Carlo in the deal too 😂

I think you're over-valuing Swayman. He does not warrant one of Cossa or Augustine + a 1st. Maybe a late first, 3rd and Husso. Boston has little leverage. The only teams that would want Swayman are the ones with enough cap and are competitive. Atthe end of the day the Wings are far from in on Swayman like you eluded to.

Regardless of limited cap space, they have assets they can trade, between their current roster, prospects, and future draft picks. Hell they can sweeten the deal with future considerations too like they got in return for Walman 😂

Offer sheets are for RFA's not UFA's. Which Swayman is. I would present an offer sheet for $9.1M. That would maximize the price while minimizing the compensation (1-1st, 1-2nd, 1- 3rd).
