Just some engineering bitch time... We've had a guy that didn't know what the pad button (or whatever it's called) was and the vocalist had to stand metres away from the mic so it wouldn't distort. He also didn't know how to use the program and spent an hour or so minimising and maximising the track, over and over again, and finally left takes in the final mix with the vocalist saying "that was shit" at the end of the song after his take, yet that was the one that the guy left in. And I might add he deleted the good takes. So much well spent money. Ahhh. XD

"Some stress" is an understatement. If you start recording people from the start and work with shitty bands you'll remember the days you only had "some stress" with nostalgic glee. The amount of dumb bullshit you will have to deal with from people that have wrong pre concieved notions is unfathomable. Drummers who tune everything as low as it will go and don't understand why all his drums sound the same. Bassists who, well just watch a glenn fricker video for that one. Guitarists who straight up copy what they "think" their idols do, and i am stressing "think". And vocalists who cant sing for shit. But for some reason we still love doing what we do :P

Are audio engineer trained for every subgenre of music? What happens when an audio engineer that only works with pop musicians listen to death metal?
@DTrecording9 жыл бұрын
Basic principles of audio engineering apply to all genres, but you as a death metal artist wouldn't hire someone who is only familiar with the pop genre. Likewise, that engineer or producer would likely not take you as a client. It would just be a bad fit that neither party would be satisfied with.

One thing tho, that I've learn over the years is that the quote in this video; "I can only polish a turd so much.." is very relevant. If you have bad musicians, you are never going to get it great. It just don't happens. I've heard a lot of descent bands from major recording studios over the years and figured out that it was descent and not "great" because of the band/artist, not the studio/gear/engineer etc..
