I'm thinking that this is pure sarcasm and I love it. I do the same level of sarcasm when I am SERIOUSLY put off by something. I've been in several caves when I was MUCH younger and enjoyed it, but they were all caves that a person can walk through. I'm not talking about the kind of caves with walkways built through them and lighting is installed and all that kind of thing. The caves I've been in are still just raw caves that have uneven walking and damp, silty walls. They're just very large caves because there is NO WAY I would EVER go through any cave that has the chance of flooding or is so tight that I have to squeeze through it and it is so tight that if I had ANY more weight on me, I just wouldn't fit through it. People who go into caves like that are nuts.

if I had to guess, I'd say people doing this do it for many different reasons rather than genuinely finding it a small fun pass-time activity, must have to do with growing up amongst people working in different related things, like mining, where sometimes these skills come in handy, and then developing a liking for that satisfaction, of feeling like every tight space is a possibility, like you're always going to make it back out Because you're seeing the times where these people don't get back out easily, but I have to guess most people don't get themselves into situations this dire, they must have their ways of picking and choosing which places are safer to traverse, and most importantly which ones lead to an open area to explore So most of these people have possibly gone years doing this, having their methods, making sure to not test their luck too much, but as it happens with most professionals at something, they can often get too confident, and that's where you see them get into situations they didn't see coming until it was too late, much like the story of Ted The Caver, considered to be possibly the first ever creepypasta.

I saw one of these caving videos that told a caving story from the 1930's and it was about a seemingly crazy guy that found a VERY deep cave on his family's property. So he started exploring it a little at a time and then one day decided to explore it going much deeper into it. He didn't tell anyone he was going in there and ended up having the exact thing you mentioned happen to him. A 26 pound rock and a lot of soil and smaller rocks caved in on his mid-section and he was absolutely stuck. After several hours had passed and the soil or rocks hadn't covered up his face, a few of his friends had figured out where he went and started trying to get him out but he was very much stuck. So the started digging and trying to break the large rock that was on him. The parts of it shifted and ended up on his chest and he could breathe less and less as time passed. He had been down there for more than two days when he died. So all the effort was in vain. I can't imagine being trapped like that for more than two days. I would go absolutely crazy.

I once unkowingly signed up for a cave exploring activity on a camping in Belgium en these fuckers took me and my little brother down a cave like this. Cave exploring sounded cool. Thought we'd walk through some caves, see some nice things. Turned out cave exploring meant caving like this. Climbing down a hole in the ground and squirming ourself trough some narrow cracks and tunnels with nothing to see but rocks, mud and water. We did some kind of special route because our group was small and doing good. Only 2 other guys signed up, and i think they knew what they signed up for. The special route involved some pretty extreme parts that i will never forget. I was freaking out a little but i kept cool thinking i just need to follow these guys till i get back up. When we finally did i was so happy to see the daylight. I will never go down a hole like that again. One of the scariest things i ever did.
