To Clear Up Some Things: 1. CSGO is the only game which Valve has made unplayable, when a new cs game comes out it doesnt replace the old one. But what does happen, as was the case with CS 1.6 and the release of CS:Source, was that them co-existing caused a divide in the community, with some choosing to stay with CS 1.6 and some choosing to switch to CS:S. When CSGO released, there was a similar divide that appeared with pros not liking CSGO but over some months warming up to it and then a complete switch occured. So likely because of this reason Valve decided to completely replace CSGO with CS2 to avoid creating a divide that would no doubt crash the skins economy and ruin the player numbers for both games. I have no doubt in my mind that valve will likely make csgo playable again in the future, but for now they want to let the CS2 community develop. 2. No, each new game is not a 1:1 replica of the previous with different graphics. Usually the game mechanics are different, but its clear that the standard has been fixed to CSGO now, with CS2 trying to be the same, or atleast similar to CSGO, albeit with changes to the Utility and some aspects. With CS:S, the switch to the Source engine led to a huge change in movement, utility, and the general gunplay. With CSGO, we saw more movement changes and gunplay changes. The maps dont entirely remain the same, different games can have different maps and some these maps may not necessarily port over to the next, current cs has whats called an "active mapool", its essentially a set of maps which are currently the ones being used for competitive gamemodes, many of these maps can date back to CS 1.6 but there are many new editions, like de_Ancient or de_Anubis, both of which were added in the late CSGO years. Some beloved old school maps can be removed as well, the most notable was de_Dust2 which is an iconic map but got replaced because the community began to dislike it and pro play on it was scarce. 3. CSGO has skins, and with a player population in the millions its obvious why people would desire to have the best of the best skins, these skins can however have different rarities, usually on the basis of how good they look. Knives and Gloves are generally the most valuable but it depends on what type of knife/glove it is. There are also stickers which can be insanely valuable, because of their rarity. Sticker capsules are released for sale around Majors (huge competitive events of csgo), and the Kato 2014 sticker capsule is a great example of how the rarity of something greatly boosts its value, aside from being some of the best looking stickers, they are very rare and because of this their price has skyrocketed, despite them not being worth more than a few bucks back when they were released. Some of the gun skins can also be really rare and also desirable by collectors and the community in general, which makes stuff like M4A4 Howls and AWP Dragon Lores really expensive. The most expensive knives can be worth millions, currently the highest valued knife sold was for 1.5 million dollars. 4. There is a market place on Steam where these items can be sold for real cash or traded for other skins. But most big traders prefer external websites, of which they are hundreds.

Id like to add that it is also very common for skins to simply be traded after a paypal transaction.

the skins are mostly so expensive because 1: you have to buy a $15 membership to get the cases in the first place, 2: you have to pay $2.50 for EACH key for those cases after you get them, and even then, knives only have like only a 0.2% chance to come out of a case or something ridiculous like that, and then you can sell skins with steams built-in marketplace feature, though third party websites for selling skins do exist afaik

3:45 New counter-strike games may look the same, but the devil is in the details - each new title comes with a large overhaul to the base mechanics of the game, and it has a purpose - CS:S was to update the then aging CS 1.6 to a new engine, making development easier, CS:GO was to unite the community under one game that could be easily updated due to the populirasation of steam, and CS2 was, once again, to port the game over to a new engine, once again to make the development easier. CS games don't ship with massive content updates since they don't have to - in CS, you are rewarded more for playing 1 map 1000 times, as opposed to playing 1000 maps once. This is because familiarising yourself with all the angles, timings, grenades is such a large portion of getting good at CS. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

2:35 CS2 is the first instance of Valve completely replacing the past game in the series. When CSGO came out you were able to (and still can) play CS Source and CS 1.6 . You can technically run CSGO still but the official matchmaking as well as the casual playlists have been shut down. 3:34 Sort of...there's a difference between the physics and overall feel in all of the games though. CSGO was a pretty ambitious jump from CSS, adding official matchmaking alongside the server browser, the marketplace for skins (skins weren't a new idea outside of the marketplace), and community made maps would be added and cycled through in competitive as well as wingman. CS2 however is pretty much just CSGO with less content than there was before. 4:38 The difference between CSGO's skins/lootboxes compared to other games is that there's an actual economy and skins are *worst money* , they don't cost money. Literally the laws of supply and demand, as well as the quality or float is what determine a skin's value. This is why some items especially lower float knives (0-0.15) are extremely expensive, they're hardly ever unboxed because they're just so rare. It's really pretty cool, I've made real money through selling skins. 5:08 You can sell items on third party sites. If you sell the items on steam it will go to your steam wallet. 5:50 He made a profit and is probably going to sell the knife after a little bit.

the maps usually stay the same, they add new ones here and there. CS: source and CSGO were very different so it was like a new game but CS2 was just an attempt at improving shit from CSGO. Far as skins go, you have patterns on each knife/skin so basically every knife/weapon skin is unique and you have certain patterns/skins that cost ALOT more than others.

Steam only offers support for the latest game in the series. You can still play the older games, but the only support is by the community. So only community hosted servers. The game has had decades of refinement, 4k hours in CS:GO, I love the game because of its colossal competitive skill-ceiling, exceptional game design, community involvement, etc etc. Mastering the game takes thousands of hours and has so much depth to it. An overview of common skills you hone in Competitive CSGO are Gunplay, Economy, Map Control, Positioning, Awareness/Game sense, Movement, Utility, Communication, Game knowledge, etc etc etc. And on the Community side of things, there is an extensive freedom for the community to be as creative as possible. Between designing custom skins (that can be officially added ingame and Valve pays a royalties to the artists for their skins!), creating custom maps (that can also be added officially to the game!) custom gamemodes (surf, climb, hide n seek, ctf, tdm, zombies, flying scoutsmen, deathrun, retakes, prophunt, and other niche ones), and modding support. You will never run out of content when playing CSGO. Also for the skins prices and all that, i can explain. Because of the steam community market (and trading items with friends), it encourages trading between players either for skins or money (that can be put towards games on steam, or alternatively 3rd party websites that payout liquid cash). i have made over $500 just by playing the market (think of it like the stock market, but instead of shares of a business, its stocks in a certain item). This furthers the appeal towards skins because there is money to be made. The normal way of receiving a skin is by opening cases (lootboxes), there are plenty of other methods but this is the most common. A skin's price is determined by several factors, first is the ingame rarity (the color). The list (and percentages) goes yellow (0.26%) > red (0.64%) > pink (3.2%) > purple (15.98%) > dark blue (79.92%) > light blue (not normally in lootboxes) > grey (not normally in lootboxes). Knives/gloves are exclusively yellow, guns are red and below. Then, each item has what is called a Float grade, this is a decimal ranging from 0 to 1 that determines the "condition" of the skin. Normally the best grade is Factory New (0.07 >). The higher the number, the better (usually). On top of that each skin has a 10% chance to be Stat Track, this is a kill counter that displays on the gun every kill you get with it while playing. This normally increases value on most skins, some exceptions (again). On top of all that are other fringe variables that manipulate value but these are the basics. So to summarize, lots of RNG for every single skin that is created, the more expensive a skin is, the more RNG is involved. The cost to pull a skin is $2.50 for a key (Base price, sold by steam, available for different prices by steam market. Commonly used in trading as a safe currency ex:A certain skin is worth 5 keys or $12.50) on top of the $2.50 for a key, the individual cases range anywhere from 3 cents to hundreds of dollars. This is because as time progresses, the older cases are increasingly harder to receive (you receive cases by random drops awarded to players simply for playing the game, you can also get at much rarer odds skins as random drops). Additionally there are certain cases that are only dropped for certain time-restricted events, example: cases from a professional Esports tournament. Each case also has its own pool of gun/knife skins that are exclusively for each case, giving some more value over others. The prices are set by the player community on the steam market, which functions as an "auction/stock exchange hybrid". players can change prices based off demand/supply, etc. On the market, players can buy and sell skins for money tied to their steam account (aka steam wallet) to purchase other skins/games on steam. Alternatively you can directly trade items with players, this is used by third party websites to pay real-world cash for skins at a below-market price. Lengthy comment, but this game has soooo much depth to it, its necessary. I could write a 50 page thesis on this game and still not cover everything.
@ilicktrains8304 Жыл бұрын
There's player to player trading which has no fees; allowing transfer of skins. Add some security and a marketplace as a middleman which guarantees that both parties won't scam each other, and you suddenly have a marketplace where prices are determined purely by how much people are willing to pay. It's essentially a commodity stock market, and you know how quickly and extremely prices can grow when the only limit is demand and supply

The csgo meta is so refined, that the changes in cs2 may seem small but actually change the gameplay a lot. Skins values are all about rarity, you get a knife around 1/400 cases, that cost about 3£ to open, that's why the knives cost so much. And the rare patterns add a lot of value too.

The original counter strike is made in the half life engine which is a modification of the quake engine and cs source was made when the hl2 engine came out. Csgo was originally meant to be a a console port of cs source with graphical and gameplay updates but was so popular and agreeably better than the oficial cs siurce that it became the oficial cs source. Cs2 is csgo but moved from the source engine to the source 2 engine

I think the biggest reason why valve removed CS:GO is because of the skins. I say this because they make a bunch of money just on cases and the steam market keeping an old game and remaking the skins for csgo's old models is counter intuitive. But thats just how I see it.
@DaxMarko Жыл бұрын
Most interesting thing about CS weapon skins and cosmetic items from other Valve games, is that its largely ran by a community market. If something is seen as "cool" by majority, that will cost more due to increased demand. Things like knives and gloves are so rare and "cool", that lot of people willingly give thousands of real money. I personally don't understand knives as you pull them out once a while just to move faster, but the gloves are a permanent eye-candy on your hands and will pair nicely with weapon skins. You could compare them to "unusuals" from Team Fortress 2, where you'd pay few hundred dilla to be a center of attention because your hat is shooting out all these particle effects that make people go "wow". Maybe that feels more worth the cash? I dunno. Also, CS:GO was more or less a "prototype" of what new generation of counter-strike will be like. It has went through many changes and upgrades in past. With the release of CS2, there's no point of going back to it as it is simply inferior and on rather old engine. There's probably still a way to download the old clients for nostalgia sake I suppose.

I have to agree with you on the what you said about them replacing CS:GO with CS2. I think it was a bad move because like you said if some people don't like it they can't go back. I've also heard some people complain that their pc can run it because of their specs but they could run CS:GO no problem which sucks because now they can't play it. I loved CS:GO and I've been playing CS2 but man the game is so broken right now, hitboxes are so off and the sub tick thing is bs and feels weird, it just feels like its all luck now when you're shooting and your shots don't feel accurate even when standing still. The first thing you talked about Nobody knows really. Some people say there are problems with the skins so csgo has to be shutdown or whatever but im sure valve can figure a way to keep it out there even just for community servers like the older games. The secons topic - When there's a new game it's usually just in a new engine. From 1.6 to source - they moved to the source engine. From source to csgo - they planned to make the game huge with console support and shit, but that didn't work out. And from csgo to cs 2- we're going to source 2. So yeah, the thing is cs players don't like change so valve doesn't change things too much, considering that csgo is such a big esport and everything they can't just change it. For the skins part - there are a lot of things that make a skin unique - float, pattern, the skin itself etc. The fact that you can sell them is good imo, because unlike other games where if you buy a skin the money is lost forever, here if you buy a knife for 500$, but end up needing the money you can resell it and be all good. Also yes, there are 3rd party marketplaces for selling skins. Hope this helps

To answer your question as why people use original games code and make it a new game is because of both time and resources. It's mush easier for a game to be made from a old game since you already have a base cod. Think Overwatch, and the new Modern Warfare game. Valve (the company who have made Counter strike, Half life, and other games) have used for many game engines. If games have "Source" in the name, it's a remake of a old game in a new engine. For the knife's and prices is for economic reason of the games. A game called Team Fortess 2 (Which is also made by Valve) has guns on trades for a economy, which is same with CSGO. In short the reason is money.

You sell the skins to other players, and people REALLY want them due to rarity etc. Steam has trading for items in all games, though all obviously don't implement it. There are tons of third party websites which will buy your skins for cash hoping to later sell them for more, as they promise you fast cash but maybe 20% less than you'd get by trading directly with a trader. Steam also has the Steam Marketplace, but it's for steam balance and not cash. This is a secure option, and you could potentially buy a steam deck or something and resell to get cash for your items.

for the most part, CS2 is essentially the same as CSGO, however there is one difference which I fuckin hate and I don't even play CS regularly, they removed bhopping, it's technically still there but it's harder and less fun or useful also, the way that people are able to sell in game items is the steam marketplace, the skins go into your steam inventory and then you can put them up for sale on the steam marketplace and you get the majority of the money

Ok so CS:GO got transferred to the source 2 engine, and cs:go got shut down, however, all of the older games (cs1.6, source,) Are still available

they are probably doing in temporarily so people move to cs2, you can still launch csgo through steam but the mm servers are down, but yeah the cs community is very stubborn to changes.

There are actual investors in CS. A lot of chinese investors put their money in CS skins because the longer you hold onto an item, the more the price raises.

CS2 is just kind of an update, you still can play the earlier builds, it's not like GTA VI comes out so we can remove V from the face of the planet

counter strike 2 is the first to replace a cs game. you can still play cs 1.6 (the first one) and cs:s (counter strike source) and you can still play csgo because it got added as a previous version you can revert to. Valve isn't dumb enough to not let people play their older games

The cases also cost money, if you buy a case and get a knife its huge profit. You just gamble lmao

The thing about the pirces, the players made the prices , not the cs go creators

for the first point I have the exact same question, me and nobody else really understands why valve got rid of cs:go especially since 1.6 and source still exist, it just doesn't really make any sense. 2nd, the major difference between cs:go and cs2 is that cs:go was on the source 1 engine, and cs2 is on source 2. They entirely remade the game, and made it so that they are able to adjust things and values of stuff much easier so updating the game is going to be significantly easier for them from here on out. It's really not some major update, or graphics update, it is more the switch from source 1 to source 2. It pretty much is the same game though. 3rd, skins, its because the rarity of it. There are many skins that you are unable to get anymore, whether its because of the case they were in getting removed, the stickers they have on it being only like 50 in existence, or whatever else. There's one example of a "1.5 million dollar karambit" and its a case hardened blue gem, and what that means is; each skin has a sort of like sheet? that applies to the weapon randomly, called its pattern index. So to build to the rarity of it; To get a knife is about a 1/400 chance, to get a karambit is about a 1/19 since there are 19 knives (yes i know some knives are only in some cases, some in others. im just assuming its a 1/19 to get a karambit). Theres about 25 different skins you could get on it, so another 1/25 to get the case hardened, and then 1/1000 different pattern indexes to get the exact right one. multiplying those probabilities since they can be considered independent events, you have a 1/190,000,000 chance, or 0.000000526% chance. Not to mention if it comes stat trak thats another 1/10 chance I believe. Obviously this is a very extreme example, but this kind of rarity calculation applies to every knife/item you can get. there can be some knives that are more common so they're less valuable, also just less desired. I would much rather have this karambit blue gem than a gut knife scorched, and so would nearly everyone in the community, and thats primarily what drives the prices. 4th) for selling them for real money, there's a lot of market places you can use like bitskins or buff.market, or even just trading on steam and receiving payment through like paypal or something. A lot of middle men exist too, like syncho or zipel. 5th) yeah xqc can just buy any knife he wants im sure, but the prospect of opening a knife out of a case, hitting that 1/400 chance is something to celebrate and is a lot more fun to do/watch than to just buy a knife. For normal people, buying what skins you want is absolutely the right thing to do instead of opening cases because youre a lot more likely to waste money opening cases. Hope my essay helps some lol

They couldn't keep CS:GO because they had to transfer all the stupid skins so they had to build CS2 on top of it. Older versions like Source and 1.6 are available because they didn't have skins.

xqc got hyped over the knife cuz its not only a rare pull but also the 1st in cs2
