I like it, very wise Connie. It's so easy getting sucked in to buying the latest and greatest, especially tech. When what we already have is more than adequate for our needs. My car is 9 years old and nothing fancy but I love it, gets me from A to B just fine.

I adopted minimalism about 5 years ago but STILL find myself tempted at times. Just got a notice that my favorite clothing company has a trench coat on offer. My friends think I am completely nuts having a closet with "just" the right amount of clothing and nothing more. That said, I almost allowed myself to buy that trench-coat--which I do not need. Living in a consumer society this is an uphill battle all the way. I am completely debt free and feel so much lighter these days but there are still times where the urge to spend frivolously tries to catch up with me. Thanks for your programs.

It is not about enjoying vs not enjoying life, it is about avoiding waste and avoiding unnecessary clutter which brings stress. If one buys lots of stuff that are useful and bring joy to them, then that is great. But most of us buy unnecessary things that we dont need which fill up our homes and become clutter and having to manage all that becomes stressful.

Agree, mum and dad scrimped and saved all their lives and died in an old, run down house with hundreds of thousands in the bank. The flip side being that we guess they were happy, at least they appeared to be. It's still sad though, they saved for that rainy day that never came.

I agree with what you say but I have to say I bought a bread maker recently and I use it a lot. It does very good breads in 3 hours. I select different dough and it smells great. With the inflation in the price of food including bread the machine will be paid for within a year.

I have 2 categories: need, want. So, I plan for things that are needed, then splurge on fun things I want/gives me Joy (after needs are met). I find that balance works for me/my family. So for example: I love lots of kitchen equipment (food processor, instant pot, bread maker, crock pots, etc). It brings me joy to cook for myself and others as well as being healthy, and saves money (don't eat out much). Balance is the key. Enjoyed your video;).

I found your video just now and enjoyed it. I have been working from home since March 2020 due to the pandemic. I was never a big spender. So far, I have donated 75-80% of my work wardrobe. Being home all day I realized I didn't need so much furniture, so I sold a few items. Here is the best part. For over 25 years I have had a holiday account at my bank. I have a certain amount of money deposited into the account each month. This past year I saved $7000! I look forward to your future videos. I am in bed sick with the "virus" so now I will enjoy watching your past videos resting in bed. Happy holidays. 🎄🎉

Speaking of cars. This is one my proudest endeavors of my life. Although it didn’t start out that way. In 1998, my husband and I were trading in my Toyota Camry that he bought me when we got married. It was a lease and it the 3 year trade/keep point. We upgraded to a brand new loaded Toyota 4-Runner. The minute we pulled off the lot I had a sinking feeling in my gut that we had made a mistake. Payments were $435 in 1998. Insurance was high and so were property taxes. But we stuck it out. A few years later we refinanced our home and paid off the 4 Runner. I’m proud to say I’m still driving it to this day. 243,000 miles. Insurance is cheap, and property taxes are $68/year and dropping. We maintain it by repairing ANYTHING that goes wrong which is waaaay cheaper than buying a new car. At this point it’s almost like an appendage. I would be so lost without it.

Thank you, Connie. There are better ways to spend money than keep buying modern things which stop being such after just a couple of years... What's more, it's a waist of our time and potential that could be used with far greater benefit. If only we spent what we have with greater wisdom we would have less financial problems.

Connie...I really enjoyed your quiet way of stating how you live your life without needing all the bright new things that come your way. I wish I had known this years ago and I would have saved so much money, as well as teaching my kids better money management. I have donated so much stuff in 2022. All things that at one time I thought I needed...obviously not. I was impressed how well you know yourself, and how you buy what works for you and can skip the non essentials. I am striving to live that life from now on. Thank you.

The thing with the phone is so me. After a year of problems with mine I finally switched. The rest I want to work on, and also that I buy to much of what I like in periods. Don't want to have a really minimal home, but airy with some empty spaces. It's a progress and we came a long way by going through the things twice the last couple of years. So I really like our home now. But I really struggle with photos. Have a lot and don't want to dive in it again. I never sorted them all through before. I don't want to leave it like it is, so I guess I must. Every round we sorted more things out. I have very severe fatigue because of MS, pain and burn out. That makes it so hard these days to just take some desicions. We keep a donate bag in the hallway and put things in it when we come across somethig we don't want or use. Things I love, but don't actually use, are the hardest except from photos. I still have to much of those clothes and stuff. I wish I could do it faster this round but it's not possible. A more airy house makes everything more easy. But a real minimalist is not me. I would say my son is. He travels abroad many times in a years and does not like things at all. I doubt he even buy clothes. He just wears what I give him for birthdays and Christmas. Thank you for a nice channel. I have problems watching tv because of my brain tiredness, but Youtbe has short videos and I can lower the speed of it if the person speaks to fast. I am much inspired by your channel. Really nice and I love the calm and slow tempo in your videos. Thanks a lot! ❤️ / Stina

Thank you for a great video. I've been practicing what you're talking about here and I had a small professional organizing business for awhile. My vehicle is almost 19 years old and works fine so it doesn't need replacing and I bought it used as well. The only specialty appliance I have is my bread maker but that's because I stopped buying store bread years ago and I find with the ingredients bought in bulk, one loaf of bread costs about .60 cents. So I use the bread maker a lot. I have one purse that's about 5 years old and about 3 pairs of shoes as well as my winter boots, all well over 4 years old. I make my own beanies and scarves that match my two winter coats and I sew my own clothes. I recently bought a new phone after the old one died after 7 years. I love saving money and having a savings account. On my downsizing page I try to get people to NOT buy like crazy for any holiday, but to start making their gifts for the following holidays at the beginning of the year. With having KZbin, a person can learn to knit, crochet, sewing etc. There are so many ways to save money. I cringe when I see what some people buy.

I’m a ovo-vegetarian and instead of 6 free tange eggs I just eat 3, with rice and beans, which is a complete meal. I love my simple life. My bedside tables are bookcases that I've had since I was 14 years old. Now I'm 64. They're a little wobbly, and by the way my mother bought them at the thrift store at the local church... They've been painted three different times and one time I even stripped them. The tops were getting ready from putting wet cups on them so we cut up a placemat, the vinyl kind, and stuck it on top. It's working much better now. Although it does still wobble. As for "fashion" I like what I like and that's only on sale about once every 8 or 10 years so I didn't to buy multiples If I happen to have any money at all. Otherwise I honestly have too many clothes that I will probably never wear but I've actually had them for a really really long time. I still have some dresses from the '90s. I don't have anywhere to Wear them. And honestly they're never going to fit again, but I still can't park with them and they're in a closet in the hall. They are in better shape than my really pretty t-shirts which were in my bedroom closet when the rat moved in. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the stains out. The nice thing about t-shirts is that they stretch. You do have some clothing I find pretty but that skirt, I really like it but it wouldn't be functional for my life. Too bad. But at least I'm not running out to buy any more skirts. My electronics which are the most expensive things - other than my TV - everything's from either eBay, mostly eBay, or the local pawn shop where my brother bought it. Cuz where else are you going to find a VCR? The last time I bought a new computer it was $1,100 and it was 2001. We finally managed to replace my windows XP machine 2 years ago. I think I forgotten how to use Windows. i've been using my tablet Which I finally upgraded from my last dying and old - 2014-tablet. The last time I sprung for a Samsung s6. At the time they were on S8. It's really nice but the screen tends to fall off. We took it to have it fixed so they took the screen off and now it falls off on both sides. Yay! My brother bought some stuff to fix it with. Someday he will have time. Thankfully my brother does computers. Pretty much anything with computers from fixing them to running the networks to just anything. I got my cell phone four years ago for $90 on eBay and it's kind of slow. I use TracFone because it's currently $13 a month. It's not unlimited but I've had it for so long that I have been storing up the data. I'm up to 13 GB. At home we just use the Wi-Fi. Everyone uses it so it's not extremely expensive. I am not a minimalist obviously. But I am extremely thrifty. It's some combination of always being poor and having parents who grew up during the depression. My one piece of real adult furniture is a loveseat that we bought when we were married. I think it was about $300. And that was in the late '80s. I moved in with my mother back in 2001 (She died 3 years later) So we have my furniture, my mother's furniture, my brother's junk, and thankfully my roommate doesn't really have much stuff. But yes, keeping up with the Joneses was never my thing. The most expensive item in our house is Our freezer, because it has a lot of meat in it. I guess someone could steal it but it's really heavy... My television is almost 10 years old. Yes I do have a television. I would do better at sorting all of the stuff out but there is dust on it and that irritates *all* of my allergies.

Nice to see you using a paring knife and paring the way my Grandma did and my 81 year old Mom. Mom can do it so fast and never cuts herself. Lost art possibly?

I thought I've always been a minimalist but now that I'm getting my (small) house ready for sale prior to retirement, I see how much crap I have. I think home ownership lures us into buying stuff, especially stuff used to maintain the property. My minimalist instincts will be better served in apartments.

Great video. Your voice is very soothing and helps tell your story. The music is perfect and also very calming. ❤️ Shoes do wear out over time and the support is gone. Something to think about. Your SUV looks great. Regular maintenance helps. Thanks for all the tips. God bless you.

Agree..,and I feel weird using a phone someone else had and inputting my personal information in it. I know the data is supposed to be cleared when it is sold to you, but I just don’t trust it.

By the way I love listening to talk. You aren't judgmental. You're very calming, And I hope that I shall see some of the places that you go. Although I don't tend to watch travel bloggers... Even the ones who go to Poland. I do miss that guy who fled Ukraine with his family and ended up settling in Poland. I really liked him and he was in Warsaw. I liked watching him walk down the street and talk about the buildings and getting on the tram and going somewhere to do an errand. The only thing I missed seeing was the supermarket and zakopane and Krakow, and most of Lazieki park. That is not spelled correctly and you couldn't even pronounce that correctly based on the spelling. It's a former palace in Warsaw and they've transformed the thing into a beautiful garden with ponds and it's a park for all the people. If you ever get to Poland, go there. :-) maybe take pictures... KZbin just asked me to sign in which I already should have been so I'm just going to hit enter again because I think it's a glitch and I hope it is and if this posts twice, I apologize

Not sure how I got here, but my suspicion is my recent searches for a used Subaru Outback. Funny how that works. I stayed for your lovely voice and the overall style and message of the presentation. It didn't hurt that you're stunning in a white t.
