Psych major here. If you want to transition into more neuroscience, I suggest looking into some neuroscientific psychology-type masters, for example, cognitive, affective or behavioural neuroscience. I did my BS in psych and I am currently doing an MS in behavioural neuroscience. My end goal is still to work in the psychology field (PhD/PsyD in clinical psychology or clinical neuropsychology) but I am aware that the path I have taken can also lead me to a career in neuroscience if I wanted to. So that might be something you could look into.

This was a really fantastic video, thank you. I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind talking more about essay-based exams in another video, please? I'm terrified of those types of exams and generally still experience brain freeze and don't know what to write, but also don't quite know how to prepare in the way you eventually learned to. I find that I spend way too much time thinking of the best way to phrase things, such that not much actually gets written down. Thanks a lot :)

I was wondering if there is a chance to keep up and be admitted for a Masters degree or even PhD evevn though I'm studying something different? this is so great! thank you! I'm interested in studying psychopathy where it overlaps in neuroscience. Would you think I should get a psychology degree first or biology? or a specialized program? (if those exist...)
@sirbaguette8378 Жыл бұрын
If you want to study how psychopathy overlaps with neuroscience, the field you'd be really interested in would be neuropsychology. I don't know if that is offered as an undergrad degree, but I know it is as a masters. I know this is a late reply but I'll reply anyways in case someone new reads this, but as for choosing between psych or bio, that's difficult. If you pick bio, you might not cover too much actual neuroscience, as I know its hugely broad. You'll be studying other topics like ecosystems, biochemistry, ethology, micro organisms, plants and animals, and I highly doubt any psychological topics like psychopathy will be covered (in any great detail at least). If you pick psych, you will cover the basics of neuroscience, and you will cover stuff related to psychopathy like neuropsychology and clinical psychology. But again, there will be topics irrelevant to your interests, like psycholinguistics, social psych, I/O psych, forensic psych, etc.

I sounds like you had a much better education. My neuroscience degree at Ohio State University in America was little more than an overview of what other people know. It seems like the degree only exists to fund their departments. ZERO hands on. I definitely didn't learn how to be a neuroscientist at all. I even had one instructor who told me to turn in the practice exam for a grade (a different exam than everyone else) because he didn't want me coming in to office hours anymore.

A transparent and thorough, thank you for the realistic information! Do you think it is possible at or after 30 y/o to join the field? My bachelor's was in Fine Art, with a focus on digital design (3d printing/rendering) as well as universal/applicable design. Critiques and essays were the bread and butter of the program it seemed, so essay tests don't seem quite so daunting. A lot of concepts I've been able to utilize in teaching; working visually to ensure a broad spectrum of students understand as well as impromptu changes as needed when things just don't work. From my understanding, the jump shouldn't be soo great and many things would actually be really helpful.. Do you have any insight from the inside? Of course schools and experiences will vary from person to person, but wondering if it's a realistic endeavor to pursue.
