I literally just got gifted my 8 week old teacup yorkie 2 days ago. I should have watched this video prior to. Since gettign her I've been mentally EXHAUSTED because she is much like a newborn that I have to watch and make sure she doesn't make mistakes while she's out. When we picked her up I took her shopping and spent $500 on her! Three different bags of treats that she DOESN'T eat, not all the toys does she play with because she'd rather play with my shoe strings and shag rugs instead 😂. My best buy for her was a medium crate with a divider that I customized into a puppy apartment for her potty training. Other then that, she's such a joy, very playful and just toooooo freaken CUTE!

Congratulations! The first few weeks are definitely exhausting like you just brought home a baby 😂 but make sure you cherish them because she’ll never be that small and cute again! Also my dogs favorite toy when I got her was a ball of yarn tied to the leg of a chair so I get it completely 😩 Good luck on your journey with her and welcome to pet parenthood 🥰

My yorkie is 6 months old, and he's been with me for almost 4 months now. I was too impulsive, I only knew I wanted a companion cause I was lonely and always wanted a dog. Yorkies were my favorite because of how they look. However, I as well never expected my life to be changing this much. His needs now come first, whatever I do - I need to make sure he's gonna be okay with it. I cannot sleep over at anyone's place anymore, which at the time i was getting it was not an issue but since I am in a relationship right now it is an issue. Because even if sleep away from home, I have to wake up early to get home so I can give him breakfast and his morning walk. If I am tired after work, no napping because he has been alone while I worked. These are small things you do not even think of, but once the reality hits you it can be rough. Here where I am from, yorkies are not very expensive but the cost of having a dog is insane, the amount of money you spend on them in the first year is crazy. Hopefully gets better later but I would definitely recommend someone reconsider getting one unless they are sure they can pay for their vet appointments, vaccines and grooming. Another thing I also recommend is to get one only if you are not going to be a single dog parent... I know that was the whole point I got him but like I said, sometimes it is just hard. Other than that I do not regret my decision at all, and I love him to bits.

Great, make sure eliminate ppl come to hour house for a wile, especially ppl have NOT had dog. They will “out of BLUE” pick them up. Also as yorkie owner, make sure do NOT out of blue pick em up especially coming from side/behind. They will traumatized for life. Develop Small dog syndrome when they are eating, or playing their fav toy etc Make sure call their name first, before patting. So they know its u. Like if u sit in park someone out of nowhere pat u, will freak OUT. Call their name or make cute sound before patting. After they see u, then grab them slowly pick em up. Slow, like pickup an infant. If they are Eating/playing fav toy, respect 🫡 them that LET them enjoy their stuff. Don’t try to “aww” pick em up to kiss n put it back down. As if its just “sign of love”. Let them enjoy their thing for 15 min of their time. Even we human when we watch our Fav tv show/video game we do NOT want to “hang out”. Also make sure sit (side ways) not face to face,face to face will make them UN sure ur intiontion, (AT em or with them) since it takes a while to form bound. So u sit beside them…..this is critical to build trust. When they eat, sit on the floor, just beside them,,,call their name. NEVER pick up their food as if its “fun integration”. It will TRIGER d Worst of them, n Lose trust. Dog to dog, some can have permenant bond breaking before it even form. N some dogs becomes violent aggressive because someone did to them when they were young. Sigh up Pet Smart , or any puppy training program. --SIGN UP ASAP. FAll programs spring program it gets booked fast. So u wanna sign up NOW. Other wise its too late. Like they might only take like 5 dogs for a class. If its full, u have to wait 6 weeks, by then yr dog is pass THAT--development stage. - 1 d dogs at dog class are all puppies. So they are not going to be like big n vicious. - all the ppl sign up for puppy trainings, they are Def responsible enough to TRAIN them properly, so u will have yorkie’s first experience with a few dogs to be possitive (all the 5 dogs are Leashed , with owners standing ) - when meeting same dog each week, the dogs form bond. Like ppl meet at club, they just so excited to see friends. Like literally they don’t Panic over random dogs like they at park. - they see nice doggie friends,,,n pet smart/all dog school has lots dog smell. So they get used to smell dog n seeing dogs with “possitive experience” in the near future, they sniff dog, they are LESS panic . Or they want to meet more dogs , cuz they have first hand good experience. Also helps owners to see how dogs act/react with other dogs first hand in controlled situation , guided by Teacher. So u as owner wont panic when in the future when dogs meet up. At last u can exchange contact with doggie 🐶 buddies, u can do play dates, n help each other baby sit dogs etc, in case u go vacation. Seriously i will NOT let friends to look after my yorkies. Especially ppl have had LARGE dogs. They do NOT know how to handle yorkies. With large dog owner, they are used to Rough handling, they are actually Literally LESS careful with small ones. They think small ones are iffy subconsciously, if u tell them “be careful” they mostly will get trigered internally “i know how to handle dogs” . I would only pay Neighbor to come over to help with my dog or send my dog to hotel than droop off dog somewhere else. I even lost my dog once at friend’s house . My doggie went thru whole in the back yard, i found him down d street …luckily. Like u can never prepare enough. Lke i was so traumatized. Crying for half an hr even i found him. 😮

They are like children! I have two adult children and two teacup yorkies: 2.9 pounds each. One is 6 years old and the other is 7 years old. I have had them since they were 4 months and 3 months. The money is WOW!!! Yorkies are finicky. I have spent so much money on food. I have just this year found a food that they can eat (Stella & Chewy's Little Bites). Their food cost me 23.89 for 12 cups. They each eat four cups per day. My dogs are so little that I have to buy Revolution for heart worm & flea medication. This cost me 124.00 for 3 months. Puppy sitting...My husband and I went on vacation for two weeks. We paid the sitter (which we have had for 6 years $25 per day). She normally charges $50.00 per dog, but she's in love with our two dogs. TEETH... Brush them...dental is now costing me $1598.00 for two dogs which I hear is normal for tiny dogs such as mine. They are bound to loose their teeth.
@katjohnson61169 ай бұрын
THIS!!!! Dental care is SO VERY IMPORTANT for yorkies!!!!! I’m on my third one, my first one lived to be 15, almost 16 years old. And my second lived to be 14.5 years old, I just lost her May 19th of this year. She was my tea cup and never weighed over 3 pounds. She developed chronic kidney disease and it was so sad to watch her at the end, I finally had to make that dreaded decision. But I can’t stress enough about how important dental health is for them!! I just got a new tiny one and she’s completely different than my other two were! They were so much more laid back- even as puppies!! This one is my wild child!! But I love her so much!! I’ve never had a problem with mine becoming attached to anyone else other than myself. My first one adored my son, they were 2 years apart and grew up together! Another thing, don’t ever let anyone tell you that yorkies aren’t good with kids! It depends on the KID! My son was raised to respect animals and to love them and be gentle and they were the best of friends! That dog never nipped at any child though and she couldn’t stand hearing a baby cry! It upset her so! (We unfortunately taught her to watch tv! She forever barked at every animal she saw!) they’re my favorite breed and they’re so smart (and stubborn lol) I’ll never own anything else!! ❤

Dingle bone--the dingle brand. The sticks(its cheap ish and its WORTH it) 40sticks/bag = 20 days/bag The MOST dental are --made of starch, Those sticks ---d cheapest n most effective option.🎉 Also u see on the videos…..pp leave HUGE bowl of water they have throughout the day. It’s not good. Water goes bad in hours. Suggest -small bowl water, Each time she drinks, u can dump it n use--soap, scrub it off. U better off have like 4-5 of porcelain ones like just use it once n swab with fresh water. Once lick 👅 the water is contaminated with saliva. Goes bad smell in a few hours.

They have beds, playpens, a stroller that fits both inside. Mine wear diapers because... well, boys will be boys! 😂 I cook their food, walk them, wash their clothes and jackets, etc. I see no difference other than they don't speak English! I'm so happy to hear this! My best advice for the neutering process and aftercare is to listen your vet's instructions and be very patient with your fur baby. As far as the accidents, I think they'll probably go away with age but I'm not exactly sure because I haven't dealt with it personally. You could make sure to take him outside to potty beforehand if you know you'll be having guest or before playtime so he can empty his bladder.

They would leave him here with my niece when visiting. I had to tell my brother, from now on when your family visits your dog will stay wherever you and your wife stay, not here.🤷🏽♀️. He’s not a pleasure to be around.

Just got my 3 month old - 3.2lbs - pure breed Yorkshire Terrier half tea cup (father) .... average size (mother). Her name is FAITH CHARITY on Sept 6th, 2023, and she's a handful. Play play play. Stubborn, mischievous, and bossy. I've always wanted one because of their temperament... personality and intelligence. I did my research, so I was familiar with them. I had a mixed Yorkie once, so I knew what they were all about. I'm training her to go to the pads, and as soon as she gets her next set of shots, she's going to potty outside. I wish all the best to you.🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕 🩶💜🖤💜🖤💜🖤💜🩶

Was that a breeder defect that the vet found?
@Ojalyk9 ай бұрын
No, it wasn't a breeder defect. Pyometra is fairly common in unspayed dogs because of the hormone changes that happens during heat cycles.
@mrspress80578 ай бұрын
Wow, she’s very young to have had pyometra. If one does not want to spay a female dog, the dog needs to be bred at least once to help prevent pyometra. I don’t know the science behind it, but it helps.

Where did u get her
@Ojalyk11 ай бұрын
Hi, I got her from someone local in my town that had a litter.

How do you prepare her for being alone for a long time
@Ojalyk9 ай бұрын
Luckily, when I got her my job allowed 1 hour lunches & I lived close so she wouldn’t be alone more than 4 hours. It’s not recommended to leave any dog alone for more than 8 but puppy’s really shouldn’t be alone more than for 4.

Does anyone know of a teacup Yorkie breeder that ships to Florida?

I’m in Florida and the breeder I’m buying from the end of July has 5 litters OTW

Next time before getting an animal next time work as a volunteer at animal day care for awhile to see if you have the time and patience for one 😊

Yeah, do NOT let too many ppl come over first lik3 4-6 months. Ppl dont know how to treat dogs, will -OUT of Blue pick up Yorkie puppy, cuz they jUST dont know. Everyone wants to hug dogs.

Lol, all dogs are a lot of responsibility, but for your first one, you got the most high-maintenance breed in terms of codependency and grooming.
@Ojalyk9 ай бұрын
For sure with the codependency but I think grooming wise it could be worse lol. If she was curly like a doodle I'd probably lose my mind!
@user-kb8qw7dy4t9 ай бұрын
@@OjalykTrue, and since she's so small, it probably takes you only five minutes to brush her. Still, you have to do it on a regular basis.

No matter the breed, no pup should be taken from its mom before 16 months. There are important instincts she must instill and immunizations she must transfer to her young through her milk in order for them to be fully capable of coping with the outside world when the time comes and not before! Sure the vets can vaccinate them, but it is nowhere near the top immunity quality from the mother or other same species mother! So now we have, issues with behavioral problems, developmental issues as they age, to a certain degree, etc. Then we wonder why this dog has problems or issues. Decades ago when there were always feral dog pacts running loose in the streets, We'd get one and bring it home and it adjusted just fine. No problems. No teeth falling out or teeth had to be brushed, Never got sick or went to a vet. Granted it did have an occasional Upchuck now and then but only due to eating too much. All those dogs were healthy. They ran, scrounged for food, bred within their pack etc. Today these animals are so sickly due to overbreeding, genetic altering, bioengineering and God knows what else, that we have to buy health insurance for them, feed them special diets and groom them more than we groom ourselves. Why? because fast breeding makes for fast profits! And it is ABUSIVE! No dogs God created were intended to be teacups or designer dogs. Buy a stuffed toy dog if thats what you want. These are living, feeling creatures with minds to be trained. If you really want to be a truly caring pet parent, say no to purchasing these abnormal pups (because it causes them more harm than if they were normal), and say yes to letting normal size pups remain with their moms until she pushes them away, and not only will your pup be more sociable and healthy, but you both will be the happier for it as well. HAPPY TALES TO ALL.🐕

You got a bad deal! I have 2.64 pound teacup with pointed ears! Your Yorkie has floppy ears which is bad for Yorkies
@Ojalyk3 ай бұрын
She has floppy ears (which I love!) because I was uneducated and didn’t know the hair on her ears needed to be cut in order for them to stand up but I am more than happy to have my girl exactly as she is!

it sounds like you might should’ve gotten a different kind of a dog. Not all dogs are as needy and clingy as Yorkies. If you wanted a pet to just have a companion that won’t bother you a lot, you should’ve gotten a cat.

@@Ojalyk well done! I’m a mom of two boys and three dogs (different breeds) and IMHO my pups (no matter the breed) required just as much work, if not more then my kids because they don’t grow up and move out 😂 Our pups are in our care for all stages of their lives and passing. I just lost my Maltese and have no regrets getting him and walking through life with him. He gave more then he got! So, yeah, you’re a wonderful mom, and your information is spot on. Thanks 🙏

Why would you get an animal when you know absolutely nothing about their needs!
@Ojalyk5 ай бұрын
Everyday people get things, dogs, and even have babies barely knowing the full scope of what they require. The important part is that they know they'll do whatever it takes to make sure they take care of it and that's exactly what I have successfully done with my dog for the past 2.5 years. Maybe you should offer some advice for people who were like me and are preparing to get a dog by watching this video instead of making them feel shameful because they don't know something ♡.
