I am a gunsmith that does both hydrographics and coating. Cerakote and Gunkote. This can all be frustrating at times when people ask about pricing. They just can't understand why it costs more for two colors , the worn look, custom colors, and so much more. Or the prep it takes. Then there is that guy who wanted his gun finished yesterday but I just got it tomorrow if you get what I am saying. I only do guns. Rarely will I do anything else.

I completely understand your frustration, I am in the same boat with the hundreds of calls and emails I get about pricing.

It is expensive but I'm all in...plus wife and I are on the waitlist to go to training hopefully at the end of the year or early next year..$3500+...cash flowing it all with exception of the shop at the moment...gonna get into some oil and gas applications is our first order of business...

Yeah this stuff gets expensive quick, but you can surely build it up over time.
@jeromypoff3468
@jeromypoff3468 2 жыл бұрын
it depends on the level you plan on achieving. I've only spent about $2k so far for a used tank, some paints from OHW, films etc., and the materials to build a 100-gallon rinse tank. I'm far from professional but I can sustain my current workload of 1-2 guns a week. I built a makeshift paint booth that's just big enough to put the gun parts in with a box fan and filter. full disclosure I am only doing work for friends and family and I'm not charging anything for it yet, but they get the disclosure that the work I'm doing for free is for my practice to better myself, so any fuck ups come with the price. So far, no fuck ups though.

As a Gunsmith that happens to hydro-dip guns, I know what you are talking about. I learned right away that the hydro business has tentacles that branch out all over. I simply have to tell people NO when it comes to dipping anything other than firearms or the occasional deer skull (and I am beginning to not like the skulls so much because of the time/profit ratio). I already perform full restorations, hot bluing, slow rust bluing, color case hardening, minor gold plating, stock finishing/re-finishing, baking lacquer, and general repair and still only have 2 hands. I know how time consuming it can all be, which leads me to a question.. Are you the only one operating your shop or do you have a couple of 'grunts' that are disassembling/reassembling firearms/related items for you? I don't know how you could do it all by yourself....
@AllThingsFunHydrographics
@AllThingsFunHydrographics 3 жыл бұрын
I have 3 part time people that help with basic stuff like sand blasting, stencil making, jigging, unpacking. But all of the disassembly, cerakoting, reassembly and dipping is all me. It's 27 hours a day, 9 days a week job for me, plus running 2 KZbin channel.
