This is so helpful and reassuring. I started hammock this year age 42. I am not as "good" as the others in my class and I struggle sometimes with adapting the moves because I'm a larger person but I keep reminding myself that I'm only measuring myself against me.

I am just starting aerial (trapeze!) at 34. I can’t do a pull-up yet and I’m working on building my strength. I really appreciate your short videos because I have a tendency to work out too hard, be sore for days, and lose momentum. This video is so encouraging. Thank you for sharing your progress 💕

That consistency matters both in what I do in the air and what I do on the ground. I am 38 years old and I have been doing Arial off and on since I was 22. I have in the last year really been able to structure my finances and my life so that I can do aerial once or twice a week and I can cross strength train on the ground 4 or 5 days a week and I'm really seeing the fruit of my efforts and my consistency. I was really excited to do a skill that used to be hard but now I feel comfortable and confident.

I started pole at 32! And I can see myself getting better and better the longer I do it (6 mos now). The most beautiful thing about it (and this community) has been that most people see it as a journey and embrace where they are in it...Thank you for making this vid! It's very moving and I'm proud of you, and anyone else who picks up something later in life and sticks with it ^-^ You don't have to be the best. You're right where you need to be. I also can very much relate to not "feeling" my muscles...I didn't have a dance or fitness background at all when I started and that really takes time and mindfulness to develop!

I am 53 and just discovered aerial yoga. I have little arm and core strength although my lower body is pretty strong. I find weight training and core training boring and so glad that aerial makes it all fun. Now when I do my other cross training workouts I have a goal to focus on. Maybe 53 isn’t too late.

@@aerialpractice well I just attended 4 classes on a trial package. Just signed up but I can only afford 1X a week ( although not sure if I can do more than that physically). But man my core is sore for days. On the day we had to pull ourselves up and I just couldn’t. My arms were sore for days too. Haha. And needing to get used to the tight silk around the inner tights haha.

I love how, supportive and encouraging thank you! I enjoyed your bravery to share your story. I’m eternally grateful for all your empathy for beginners and showing no one is a professional in one day! Even though the want and drive is so much the control and conditioning involved before jumping in is important I’ve learned after one class but now it makes me just want to learn how as you said perfect ( know how to use my body) I feel so awkward but I know I have my heart in this and I will be able to achieve a climb with just some wonderful advice from you and others and my heart still involved in achieving the right way! I'm 39 and I just restarted aerial yoga in February after a couple of years and started sling in May.i feel so much stronger than I have in a long time. I love seeing the cool things my body can do and I've lost over an inch on my waist (while gaining some seriously bruised legs lol). I did my first aerial pullover yesterday and if you had told me 6 months ago that I would be able to achieve that I would have called you a liar. I may not be great but I'm consistent and that is helping me see regular progress!

This video was really great, I loved how you talked about learning how to pace yourself. Pacing is something I've always struggled with but have been forced to learn as my body starts to fail me. Being disabled has really slowed my pace, I am now 2 years into my aerial journey and I am loving it just as much as I did when I started. Being ok with not being where my class is, being patient with myself and I get ever stronger are things I wish I'd been more aware of when I first started. I didn't know my own limits and it was making me suffer for days after a class with the residual pain. I've started doing some simple drops, have been stronger than ever and thanks to my slow pace, I am learning control while I gain strength which has made me feel so powerful. I'm 30 this year as well and I feel so good about how much I've progressed. I really wish I had documented more of my failings so I could really see how far I've come. I can almost do a full pull over now, when I could barely get my feet off the ground when I started!

Wow this is super relatable! There is so much I wish I did or knew sooner but you know that's life! We are all smart and stupid in our ways hahah! I always think it's funny to consider our titles and achievements and I am here thinking I don't even know how to properly walk with my own feet.
