As a Ukrainian, this is a crucial time for us, and it’s reassuring to see people in South Korea aware of what’s happening just across their borders. 2:59 This guy is very right! A lot of East Asian societies in general are materialistic.... they measure people by "success" by seeing how much money they make/what cars they own... I noticed as well that they place heavy importance on "designer clothes" (more like stupidly overpriced clothes). Not saying this behaviour isn't prominent in the west, but in Europe where I am from i was never exposed to this type of materialism or emphasis on wealth, so being exposed to Korea's "golden-spoon" "chaebol" classist society, and classism based bullying, really was shocking to me....
@okwagoКүн бұрын
why do you broaden the Korean matter to "lots of Asian societies" all the way? I have also seen the study case about the value comparisons by country that he mentioned and, Korea and another country (probably spain) was the only different country about the collected answers for most important thing for life, that is, material wealth. Also about Fashion, the girl in the middle of the video mentioned like Japan and Europe people wear Uniqlo fashion more. that means Japanese people care less about their designer clothes. it depends on the term "a lot of" but when you say a lot of East Asian countries, it usually means China(Taiwan) and Japan whether you add" in general" or not , right? then actually materialism isn't as intense in Japan as you consider. People especially outside of Tokyo lead humble lives with humble clothes.
@411faithhopelove6 сағат бұрын
@@okwagoJapan is a highly run on consumerism and they LOVE material things. They all jump on the next fad and spend spend spend. Academics and hierarchy are everything there. I wouldn’t just eliminate Japan because some people in the countryside aren’t materialistic. As a whole, it is still a very materialistic society.
@okwago4 сағат бұрын
@@411faithhopelove you are wrong and just trying to devalue Japan out of malicious intention. Lower levels of personal debt suggest that individuals are cautious about borrowing and spending beyond their means. And the popularity of minimalism like the long run fast fashion trend reflects a cultural shift towards valuing simplicity over the accumulation of goods unlike Korea where people prefer brand handbags and luxurious German cars and personal debt among people is such a social problem.

Love your video man. Look forward to what topics you can touch on next. It seems like even though our countries differ in culture. We share the same changes as a society. I feel like if ppl want change....we need to let go of the old school social mentality and adopt a new way of thinking. We could be so much more as a society if we could put aside some of out cultural difference and maybe brainstorm different ways to help us grow and mankind!

The more rules there are, the more society seems to decline. Look back: how many rules have been put in place that make people wait in line over the past seven years? Regardless of the rules, policies, or systems, these should serve as strategies for people to enjoy their freedom, not as fences keep them in like livestock. Think aobut how many laws exist to prohibit certain things.

@@lkm2458Pardon me, but your country is already in decline, and you make as much difference as any developed country in the world-with one key difference: these other countries do not 'torture' their own citizens in the process to achieve this success. @@nightingaleblackbird1313 How can one succeed without living competitively in a country with no natural resources? And that kind of life is not lived through torture. Our ancestors worked even harder in the 1970s and 1980s. With that nourishment, the children were able to live in a good environment. Because we know that success, we also work harder than other countries. You have one mistake. In Korea, although people spend a little more time working, they maintain a good work-life balance. I enjoy my weekends in many ways by exercising after work, staying healthy, and enjoying meals with people.

Who here is saying things have been easy in the past? Your people are talking about things that need to improve in your country. Do not dismiss your fellow countrymen and countrywomen points on things that should be improved. Korea just like any other country, has flaws and realizing that and saying what needs to change ISNT WEAK NOR LAZY. It takes courage and selfawareness to know when something need to change for better. Nationalism is useless when it blinds you from seen flaws in your society, flaws which are opportunities to better the societal structure and the country itself. People with your mindset are the ones preventing countries to move forward socially, economically and politically speaking.

@@katherinejimenezmatos2009Pursuing social solutions to issues that are left entirely to individual free choice always leads to bad results. You just have to live a lifestyle that suits your personality and have a wedding the way you want. There is no reason to criticize how other people live. If you don't like the system of competition, you don't have to participate. This is a society where you can make enough to live on as long as you work at any job. Then that's it. The rest is left to each individual's free choice.
