Haha completely agree with all of the points you made! The best bit of advice I would give is to bring a door stop so people passing by will pop their head in for a chat! I feel sorry for students starting now because my sister started last year and she said so many people would stay in their rooms online and not make an effort. We didn't have wifi in our halls and had to wait a week for Ethernet cables to be delivered (lol) which forced everyone to socialise. Nothing like forced socialisation and alcohol to get the conversations flowing. X

My daughter had a strange, mysterious Chinese girl living in her flat. She did appear once, during the first term, left some weird Chinese cooking contraption on the cooker, disappeared back to her room thus setting fire to the kitchen! That was in November last year.

Totally agree with hating 80% of people in my year at uni 😂 I just can't deal with people taking themselves so seriously! Yes we all know you have read (apparently) every single book on the planet but we just don't care, we're counting down the minutes till the class finishes and we can go to the pub and play cards against humanity 🙌🏻 Great video Lucy! xx

Only one question........WHY were there so many fire alarms throughout the year at 3-4 am?! I just really didn't get that part, because I honestly doubt it was due to actula fires. I hope you were exaggerating this particular part 'cus honestly .....I'm not too sure if I'd actually bother getting out of bed if I know it is not real and happens all the time XD

I think I originally started watching your videos from frantically searching for 'uni tips' and 'what to bring to halls' and now I'm going into third year feeling like an old hand... We've come so far! Also, I didn't know there were different names for bread rolls until uni, how terribly London of me

This was all so true 😂😂 I met my now boyfriend of 4 years at Freshers, and he came out with the icebreaker "what is the biggest animal you think you could kick to death?"...I was freaked out cause he's a veggie but it was so funny and got everyone talking straight away! Also, it's a cob! The bread roll debacle is a funny one 😂

ok so I just watched this and thank you SO much lucy! I'm going into my second year and slightly dreading it although I know when I have my VK claw I'll be ok. I'll make sure to bring a cork screw BECAUSE NO ONE OWNED ONE, I MEAN NO ONE. Also we had an international student in our flat who had a rice cooker saw him probs 2 times in the entire 9 months. Also if you think you're unlucky with your flat I ended up with someone I went to school with, we hated each other so that was a fun year !!! let's hope second year makes me more happy, a better cook and more unwilling to attend 9am lectures X

I'm just going into my 3rd year of uni now and I agree completely with the point about being best friends with your housemates. I met all of my friends through societies and my course, it was the best decision I made not settling with the people I was put with and going out and making friends with people who have similar interests!

Omg these were so true! I was so homesick the first few weeks and it kind of ruined freshers but now I absolutely love uni and I've just moved into a house with my friends for second year! I'm off to uni at the beginning of October and i'm so excited/nervous! I'm kinda doing the opposite of what you did. I'm from London so i'm used to the big city vibe and i'm going to uni in a much smaller town. p.s. Loved the video :) You seem a lot more honest about university than a lot of people on youtube and i like that. There is no point setting people's expectations so high that they are bound to be disappointed. I'm just going to make the most of it and take the ups with the inevitable downs

This is an incredible video full of pure facts. The only exceptions for me were I only felt homesick for the first weekend because I went to uni in a city 40 miles from my hometown that I'd visited many times and a lot of people I knew from school also went to the same uni so I had people to hang out with. I also did make friends with 3 of the girls I lived with and stayed friends with them until we all left uni. The only things I would add to this video are if you're in a course with a lot of people from other countries (especially European countries) they will make you feel like a complete moron because they all speak at least 2 languages fluently and have had a great education compared to UK standards. If you're from a working class family you will feel like a charity case next to all the rich people dressed in their Jack Wills and Hollister while you're dressed head to toe in Primark. And the final thing is, in halls there is always a cheese thief. You will either have your cheese stolen or you will hear about someone who has. For me it was both.
@LucyJaneWood8 жыл бұрын
SO TRUE. Although the cheese thief was nearly always me, if I'm honest x
