I think my issue with people offering me relationship/life advice on the basis that I'm single is that there's an assumption there that they are more successful than me BECAUSE they're in a relationship. They may very well be more successful than me, but it has nothing to do with their relationship! Besides, just because you're in one doesn't mean you know everything about them. You may very well be single again one day.

One they didn't include that I get a lot is "You don't want to end up alone, do you?" Like, are you really scared of being single when you die? Hell even people who do find the love of their life much of the time end up dying alone: the other person dies first, the love was short-lived, etc. I guess it's sort of similar to the "you need to lower your standards". God I hate that one. I'm totally happy being single, so why would I want to settle for a relationship I know I won't be happy with? I'm not looking to "fix" anybody -- I like who I am, and I don't have any desire to try to mold another human being into the person I want them to be. Either they're someone I already like or they aren't, and if they aren't I'm not wasting my time. Also, I don't want anyone trying to "fix" me, so why would I do that to another person?

The reason that your peers think you need to be dating is because they are trying to be adults. All of some people's teen years are spent attempting to act like someone older, it's silly but that's what it is. Also, as far as being cool, I haven't been that since people still brought backup clothes in case of "accidents" so I can only give you a guess. I suppose the reason you are uncool if you don't date is because your friends are intimidated by someone comfortable with acting their age so they have to cut you down by calling you uncool. My time as a single woman was amazing. Sure, I did occasionally miss loving cuddles, but that was a negligible side effect. I had all my freedom, my time was my own and it really helped me define my true identity and personality, what I really thought and wanted rather than what others expected or assumed. I'm engaged now but I know that being happy with being single helped me to NOT "settle" or make compromises just so that I wouldn't be "alone". I'm a hopeless romantic but I truly believe everyone should learn to be happy as a single person before even considering a relationship with anyone else, and for some people being single is just the more natural state! It's all good as long as you're serene and happy.

I had a wedding I had to go to last Saturday and Sunday. On those weddings there were no less than three people who just came up to me, put a hand on my shoulder and said, "Your time will come." And for the life of me I thought they meant my time to die and I remember thinking, "Well that's just rude." It occurred to me later that they meant my time to marry but that's like basically the same thing 🤷🏽‍♀️

It's like when you get to the end of a fairy tale story and it says, "And they all lived happily ever after" after the Prince and Princess get married. Look, you can live happily ever after WITHOUT having to find your Prince or Princess. It's so ingrained in society for us to grow up, get married and have kids that people can't handle the fact that I'm single because I WANT TO BE. And I also want to add, everybody I went to school with, all now have children of their own and are struggling because they're in their early 20s working in a minimum wage job with mouths to feed and bills to pay. I'm just not ready for kids right now, and staying single is helping a lot with that! xD I'm also a hardcore introvert. Being in a relationship would just be a chore.

EXACTLY 👏👏👏 All I aspire for is a decent career, nice apartment/small house, a cat and the freedom to travel the world and do what I want to do on my own terms. Like you, I'm also an introvert, and I wouldn't have the energy nor the willingness to commit to a relationship. My happily ever after would be having freedom, and marriage & kids is exact opposite of that.

OMG, I used to cop so much of this. And the anger from people when you don't want to date them, have sex with them or be their partner is just hilarious. When I decided that I wanted a partner, I went and got myself one and he is not one of the ones that got angry with me back when I didn't want anything more than a FWB lol. I don't regret the time I spent single and I don't regret the time I have with my partner. I was definitely not going to drop my standards to be with a drop kick lol.

Idk about you guys but ive hated always being told "you just havent met THE ONE yet" ...like, i don't believe there's a destined person for all of us, and some people CHOOSE to be single their whole lives. Being in a relationship is a big responsibility, and personally i don't think i'm ever gonna be prepared to be in one.

Lol when I was single, my friend was like oh dude let me set you up with my coworker shes great. Nine months later, I'm celebrating my first valentines day as someone in a relationship. I mean if they're just setting you up with any random joe blow then yeah that's stupid but I don't see what is wrong with being like hey I think you would be compatible with someone I know, especially if you're not very social

A while after I broke up with my 3rd gf, my aunt rudely asked my mom "Is Jason... gay?" She thought that because I didn't have a girlfriend afterwards for a while. Of course I'm not sleeping around. That might be fine for you, you might be okay with having sex with a bunch of strangers, but I can't do that. I can't handle having a stranger see parts of me that no one else ever sees, TOUCH parts of me that no one else ever touches. I might find a guy hot, but that doesn't mean I want to have sex with him. There's only one person in the world that I've done stuff with, that I've ever so much as thought about doing stuff with, and that was only because I was seriously considering a relationship with this guy. It didn't work out, and although we did do stuff then, I had a painfully difficult time convincing myself that doing that kind of stuff with him was okay, seeing as we're just friends now.
