Whether it's people trying to take a sneaky photo (then denying it), or thinking it’s perfectly acceptable to ask, “Is everything in proportion?”- those with dwarfism are on the receiving end of stereotypes and questions that range from the ridiculous to the downright offensive.

Someone picking you up without permission should be considered physical assault. Just hearing about people treating others that way irritates me so much.

“Your little five minutes of joking is a lifetime of memories for us.” Absolutely true. And not just for people with dwarfism. For anyone who has ever been made fun of for their skin colour, their body, a mental condition, their sexuality their religion, their country or anything else. Words do hurt. We've been fed this lie by media for way too long that all people with disabilities would do anything and everything to be able-bodied while it's obviously not true. Felix Henson each to their own. If I were disabled I would rather be not able. I would also rather be rich than poor and pretty instead of ugly, healthy instead of unhealthy etc, basically anything that makes life easy instead of difficult. I actually don’t understand the point of that question. People aren’t disabled by choice and it isn’t as if they can do anything about it.

I have an eye condition and a disease that affects multiple body parts, but I'd rather live with them than without, because it's the only thing that makes me interesting. Also, usually I like answering questions (unless they ask me if I'm contagious -_-). I kind of want to get rid of the disease though. Every day seems like it's just preparing for tomorrow, yet every day is the same thing, wake up, take pills, do treatment, pills, more pills, go to school, take my pills there, do treatments afterschool, go and do my daily shot, go to bed.

Seeing or hearing kids do or say anything harmful about my size is a lot less harmful than seeing someone who is either a teenager or an adult doing it when your a child ur uneducated and mostly just curious so when you see someone who doesn’t fit into societies norm it’s normal for a child to comment on it an adult however should know better yet for some reason they dont

I don't have dwarfism but due to severe prematurity I've been very short my whole life. I'm 4' 11 now thanks to several years of injected growth hormones as a child, but during grade school I was very small, usually the same height as kids at least two grades below me, and the other kids in my class thought it was hilarious to pick me up and carry me around. It was very annoying.

There is this woman with dwarfism in my neighborhood and she is one of the kindest,funniest and most independent people i have ever met.I work at a market and i come across so many rude people every day yelling for little stuff and need help for things that they can easily do for example open the fridge in front of them and take a coca cola but instead they demand from me to do it for them which doesnt make sense.Anyway,and every time she comes at the market she never EVER asks for help she wants to do it all by herself even if it is quite difficult.She will find this plastic box we use to reach stuff and drag it around and find anything she wants.And when its time to put her things in her bag even if i offer to help her she says i can do it thank you because she knows i am busy with all these costumers and she doesnt want to occupy my time.She never complains even if a simple walk at a supermarket can take half an hour for her.She is such an amazing person,its a shame for the people who has it easier and still act like babies

Please do a dyscalculia one or one about auditory processing issues! People dont really know what dyscalculia is and constantly find myself saying "Its like dyslexia but with numbers" and with auditory processing its "No I'm not deaf but I also cant hear you especially if theres background noise"
@Laladust
@Laladust 5 жыл бұрын
They covered Dyscalculia on an episode of Degrassi-The Next Generation(it's a Canadian 90's teen drama if you don't know). One of the brainiest students called Liberty is getting special lessons after school and nobody understands because "Liberty is the smartest girl in school, she can't be getting tutored". Then her teacher hands her a pamphlet that everyone in school rumours is a love note and the teacher ultimately gets suspended under suspicion of sleeping with Liberty because the rumours get out of hand(the students are like 13 at this point in the show cause I reckon it was series 2). Then Liberty comes clean when one of her "friends" is like, "is it true you're sleeping with the teacher. Everyone says he passed you a love note". and she says, "NO!!! It's a pamphlet on Dyscalculia. It's Dyslexia with numbers. He's been helping me because it's embarrassing. I'm supposed to be the smartest kid in school". That was 30 years ago and I reckon people are still as clueless about it today. In the show a teacher was suspended under monstrous suspicions because a girl was too ashamed to admit she reads numbers a bit funny.

Sadly, I've never actually had the opportunity to speak with someone with dwarfism & I have only ever seen one fella in real life so I am completely uninitiated of the Do's & Don'ts when it comes to proper etiquette. Unfortunately my lack of knowledge would prevent me from interacting with someone with dwarfism if given the chance as I'd be too afraid of offending or unintentionally hurting their feelings. For example, until seeing this I had thought the preferred term was midget & not dwarf because I associated dwarf with fairy tales like 'Snow white' & for some reason I thought that may be offensive.. I sincerely appreciate BBC for doing these "what not to say" series as its been wonderful to learn things that I otherwise would not have known.. Thank You & your amazing diversity within each group you host is wonderful!! Keep it up! Huge Hugs.

I agree that the USA is worse as young women there are incredibly superficial, shallow and materialistic. However, I live in Europe (Germany) and it's really not much different. You get alot of girls here saying "Oh I don't care about height" but then they always have a bf who is like 6,2". The ones who genuinely don't care about height are usually far-left feminist types who are unfeminine and dislike masculinity in general.
