I'll never forget the first time I saw Peter Dinklage in a role. It was the first time ever I saw a little person represented as an actual real human being. It had a strong impact on me and made me realize how much prejudice I had in me, even though I've never met a little person in real life. It's a truly bizzarre and dumb part of our culture

Zimba please don't generalize all members of our society. Most men don't judge people on their height...We might "judge" people on their weight (just like doctors do as well ) which is a trait that says a lot about a person's habits, health and personality.. Liberals claim that obesity is the result of "hormonal problems" however if this was the case you would find obese people in all nations...but you aren't going to find obese people in poor nations such as North Korea , Romania or Somalia... you only find obese people in nations where people have money to buy fast food. Anyways, I don't think the average man judges people on their height... height just like race is a genetic trait, it makes no sense to judge a human being on these things.

They are not miniature adults, they are adults. They are human! I'm 4 foot 10 and people look down on me. Don't take me seriously. Treat me like a child. Ask me how's the weather down there. This is normally when I'm at work. People have sang, "its a small world after all." Even one coworker pointed out a petite lady and said look, "she's shorter then you!!!!" I was so embarresed. I told her that was rude! I felt so ackward and outraged. I went up to the other lady and wanted to say sorry but she walked away from me. I felt by looking into her eyes that me saying sorry wasn't going to help her feel better. I felt sooooo aweful even though it wasn't me saying such an insensitive thing to someone. It's also why I'm sick of society and no longer wish to be a part of it anymore.

At school I've heard a few kids complaining about how short they are and their friend points me out and says "look she's shorter than you" Imagine putting someone else down just to make another "feel better". Also I hate how condescending people are. I've had people crouch down to talk to me like I'm 6 and I hope this doesn't happen soon I'm a 4'7 teenager still waiting for another miracle growth spurt. My boyfriend has dwarfism I can’t imagine someone hurting him or making him feel like he’s less than human, I love him so much and he is the light of my life, his short height is limiting and he can’t reach the top shelf he says one of the advantages of dating me is that I can reach the top shelf for him and I’m always happy to do that when ever I see him I help him put towels away or help him get a plate. He is 3’11 I’m 5’8, sometimes I forget that we aren’t the same height and I’ll joke around a bit to much and that’s something that I’ve had to learn because when I stand next to him I only see the person that I love not his height and his physical limitations. I love him so much though and I wouldn’t change him, he is sweet and kind and so caring and i do not think anyone has the right to hurt him because he puts so much light out in the world. He is so motivated and he is so capable and responsible and he pushes me to be my very best he always reminds me about things when I am forgetful and he motivates me to go to school and learn, he cheers me up when I’m depressed or when I’ve had a bad day. I love him so much and I would do anything to make him happy and I couldn’t stand someone dehumanizing him or making him feel that he is worth less then anyone else that is a normal height, we met in kindergarten and I was taken out of school at a young age for bullying, ten years later we met again and fell in love I can see myself marrying him and I could never see myself loving another like I love him he is my true love.

@@coolchannelize15 I know it will happen eventually, don’t give up hope just because of your height. Truly I believe love is based off more than just appearances, after all me and him met ten years later at a McDonald’s drive through what can be more romantic then that. The first thing I noticed was his smile and his amazing personality, that’s what truly matters and if you are confident and outgoing people will see that. Height shouldn’t matter in the end people may judge you based off of your appearance but you can get past that just keep being yourself and happiness is sure to follow, I think he had the same feelings as you one point that everyone would look at his height, but I can also tell he uses his height as an advantage and something fun, like when he worked at McDonald’s he would climb the shelves and play hide and seek with his managers he is really funny 😆.

My grandfather was 4'9". But in my book, he was a tall person. He could shoot the eye out of a squirrel. He could ride any horse. He could add a tall column of numbers, three across in his head in seconds. He could draw about anything. There really wasn't much he couldn't do. His mother died when he was seven. His dad and two old maid aunts raised him. In those days, a child like that, who was also crippled was often put away... But our family educated him. They knew he would not be able to perform the type of manual labor available to most men in those days. He became a school teacher. He was greatly respected. Many spoke highly of him. I was always so proud of him.

Over 30 years ago, when I was in my early twenties, I remember hanging out with my friends at a festival in NYC. There happened to be a section where they had charged a fee to see a woman who had dwarfism. I didn’t believe someone was as small as they advertised and remember thinking I just had to see it for myself. When I finally got to the booth and looked down to see this very small woman who looked up at me I felt so ashamed that I participated in that. The way I felt immediately convicted me of that so-called “attraction”. It is wrong and shameful. I apologize for having participated in this in the past. Thanks for your documentary.

I think a lot of the discrimination unfortunately comes from the way our brains are wired: we find little things with human features cute. Like children. The most major type of discrimination, I'd imagine, would be the kind who gawk or treat you like a child or want to pick you up like a toy. I think people can go a bit crazy when they see cute things, like the way my partner goes googly eyed for dogs or the way old ladies fawn over my 4 year old son, people really need to show a bit more restraint. If the person is happy to do a show or otherwise exploit what they are born with, that should also be fine. Just don't call people nasty names, there is no need for it, especially when height is not something you can change.

He was just an awesome character that was so much more powerful character-wise than all the other characters on the show. I’m sorry the world forgot about what you go through. Its his skill that i paid attention to. All the cast was amazing from the goddess dragon queen,to the biggest tools in history bolton and that vile trash the sparrow. No more haply episode seeing that tool blasted to oblivion and that evil nun like lady. Shame ,shame. I sure miss that show. Aria was beside peter favorite who would not love a loyal daughter like that. Peter proves acting of highest grade can be achieved by hard work. Not your size.

I'm so sorry that anyone would treat you poorly; because you ARE what you are born. You've no control over that. No one does. In my life I've only ever knew of one small person. She went to my high school. I had no classes with her, so I never had the opportunity to get to know her. I will admit that I was so very jealous that the small person was a friend to someone I knew, not me. I was envious. I viewed the small person as someone special!

Galadriel: Mithrandir... why the Halfling? Gandalf: ...I don't know. Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid... and he gives me courage.

Why do people always want to compare their problems to being black. Dwarfs were not killed due to their height nor were they ostracized because of it. Yes I agree people look and are intrigued but to compare to being black is offensive

i have to agree, but it kinda seems like you didn't watch the video. it is 100% factual that people with dwarfism were sold as property for circuses, and until recently that was the only "work" we could realistically do. we *are* in fact killed and harmed and ostracized for simply existing in our bodies. you're right, comparing it to blackface is unnecessary. but please do not minimize the dehumanization we experience, every day.

My grade school (1950's) friend' older brother had dwarfism. I know he had a hard time but he was just my friend's brother and he helped her with her math homework. I didn't know anything and was never explained anything (1950's). I didn't know what dwarfism was as a kid and because I was at my friend's house so much, he was just my friend's older brother. I know he worked in an office at the Main Post Office in DC and died in his mid forties. My niece's 1/2 brother had a different form of dwarfism. (?) he was about 5' tall, small head and thin but also severely mentally developmentally disabled. He died at age 25 due to multiple internal physical issues. I tend to be attracted to make friends with people who I am attracted to with a mental and common interest attraction, not physical.

I've always found the plight of little people as a marginalized group deeply fascinating, and the determination and strength of little people today to push against that fetishization and objectification and to seek to define for themselves what it means to be a little person on thier own terms never ceases to astound. I honestly think little people are kind of amazing in that way, much more than the surface-level novelty of thier size ever could be.

I never got to meet Michael Dunn, who portrayed Dr. Miguelito Loveless on the Wild Wild West, but I sure wish I had. That man was only 3ft 10 or 11inches but he had more stature then some tall men. And his voice...wow...he had a set of "pipes" beautiful singing voice. Skillful actor. He was my real first introduction to "little ppl" on tv and I admired him. I saw little ppl on the Wizard of Oz but they were a group, their individuality didn't get a chance to shine. Then on Bonanza, Hoss and the Leprechauns, they shined a bit more than Oz. There was another short lived show, The Wizard with David Rapaport. These were positive, but these folks died too early.😥

My mom was short enough to qualify as a "little person." But her proportions were ordinary and I didn't know this until I was old enough to read it somewhere. She was self-conscious about her height, and wore very high heels. She was impressed when she went to college, that nobody remarked on her size! I'm short too, but over 2 inches taller than my mom, and I don't qualify.

I think the best thing you can do as a little person is educate people. It’s easy to get offended but sometimes you have to take a step back and realize the people making these comments and asking offensive questions don’t know any better. As a little person myself, I don’t get angry and upset when people are curious and have questions, because I want as many people as possible to understand my condition and what life is like for me. However, I also make it clear to people that although I may not be offended by their questions/comments that many other little people could be offended by what they said.
