The story about the would-be kidnapping of Princess Anne is an interesting one. The kidnapper shot Anne's security man in his right shoulder. The kidnapper also shot several other of the security detail and some passing motorists who stopped to help. One of the passersby who helped was Ronald Russell, a 6'4" ex-boxer who stopped to help and began punching the kidnapper. The kidnapper, Ian Ball, then demanded that Anne leave the car. "Bloody likely," Anne said, refusing. In a 2006 interview, Ronald Russell recalled what Queen Elizabeth said as she presented his George Cross medal: “The medal is from the Queen of England, the thank you is from Anne’s mother.”

@@mpcg102 that was her representative, the Governor General, and it wasn’t for nothing. The Whitman government had repeatedly lost budget votes in the senate, meaning that no budget was being passed and the Australian government was careening towards a shutdown. By tradition, if a government is defeated on a budget vote, they are expected to resign. Prime Minister Whitlam however, instead of resigning, asked the Governor General to dissolve the senate for new election. This would allow Whitlam to maintain his majority in the House of Representatives unopposed, but would allow him to potentially take the senate. This was a wildly power-grabbing move, and it was because of this the Governor General dismissed him and called new elections. These elections funnily enough gave a landslide victory to Whitlam’s opposition, showing the Australian people’s opposition to Whitlam’s attempted power grab

According to recently revealed data, the Queen has used her veto no less than 39 times lately. For example, in 1999 the Queen blocked a bill on military action in Iraq. In this bill, Parliament wanted the Queen to give him full control over the military operation in Iraq. Since the project affected the rights of the monarch, the queen rejected it, referring to the act of "royal consent". Anyone who thinks that they [meetings] are a mere formality or social convention is deeply mistaken. In fact, they are held in a relaxed business atmosphere, and Her Majesty always demonstrates her ability to cover a wide range of issues and her wide experience. - Thatcher, Margaret So for example, in 2021, Elizabeth blocked a bill in Scotland, they wanted to buy land with the help of the law, but Elizabeth simply blocked it with a veto.

She was right every time she used her reserve powers, she hardly ever exercised them in ways that even affect the government. When she has stepped in it was SMART, imagine not notifying your head of state that you are at war. She was 100% correct in denying royal ascent to the 1999 bill. And AS an American, THIS IS NOT A BAD THING. A monarch has to fear much more than losing an election if they fail in their duties.

In addition to duties, Elizabeth II also has certain inalienable rights as a monarch (royal prerogatives). For example, she may reject a candidate for prime minister that she thinks is unsuitable, and so on. These prerogatives are not always a mere formality. For example, the prerogative “the right to consultation, the right to encourage and warn is expressed in the fact that Elizabeth receives a number of documents for study that are collected for her. These papers are brought to the palace daily at seven o'clock in the evening in red boxes, after which the monarch quickly looks through them, highlighting in red what she did not like or is incomprehensible, since these documents are taken away at eight o'clock the next morning. The queen's comments are always listened to. In addition, the Queen receives reports from 15 Commonwealth countries, which she meets and sends back⬇️⬇️

Don't forget she literally has an army. They call the military Her Majesty's armed forces for a reason. The oath they swear is to the Queen and her descendants, no one else and definitely not the government. She is not a figure head but allows us to believe so. She technically could do anything she desired. She also has the right to not allow even the discussion of a law in Parliament which she did use in the 90's to prevent a bill's discussion that would allow Parliament to authorize air strikes without the Queen's approval.

Especially for Queen Elizabeth! She has had to sacrifice a great deal in life. All things considered, she was appointed an astounding amount of responsibilities at a very young age! Yet, she accomplished it all with such grace and wisdom...and continues to do so. I do so hope that she is comforted by her family during what must be an indescribable time of mourning right now. It is kept out of her meals even when she is eating away from home as a guest. Somehow chewing gum is not something I imagine the queen doing at an engagement. There is nothing very appealing to someone chewing while making a speech, or having a conversation. As for brushing her teeth , it might not always be possible when at an engagement. There's a reason that those in line of succession to the throne have more than one name. It's to allow the heir to pick a regal name by which they would be known if they become Monarch. For instance, Queen Elizabeth's father was christened 'Albert Frederick Arthur George'. He was known amongst the family as 'Bertie' which is short for Albert. Albert is a German name and the name of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha who was Queen Victoria's husband and consort. A consort is the husband of a Monarch who does not have legal right to be King. It was considered that Albert was too Germanic to be a British King, especially because of World War 1 and tensions with Germany, so Bertie had the option of becoming King Frederick (also considered too German), King Arthur (considered too difficult because of the historical myth) and King George, which he finally settled on because it respected his father King George V. For similar reasons, Prince Charles will have to make his mind up within a few hours of becoming King how he wishes to be known. As with George VI, he may choose to ignore Arthur and Philip as neither have ever been used for a King. There has been a Charles twice. The first was executed by Parliament after a civil war and the second was known for his flamboyance. Which leads many to believe that Charles will style himself as George VII. Not only to honor his mother's father, but also because Kings with the name George have been successful.

In grasping the etiquette of being chosen to meet the Queen personally, the many items one must remember on the list is a test in itself. Over the 70 plus years in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, there have been many visitors whom have had the honor of meeting Her Majesty personally. After listening to several of the expectations of being in the company of the Queen, those who neglect to read these rules of etiquette on Queen Elizabeth's turf are more then likely banished from ever having and opportunity like this in their lifetime again. Royalty is historically and example of century's of heritage and bloodline dating back thousands of years. The structure and discipline required in meeting the Queen is a traditional part of being Royalty, which in admonishment Queen Elizabeth II, has enhanced the meaning of Royalty throughout the reign of over 70 years in the term Dynasty of Her Majesty's Royalty. This is a life long monumental quest of being Queen in the utmost importance to be remembered as heir to the throne in the best possible light shed upon the family tradition of being a Royal. In being a Royal there may be many advantages, although the daily framework of a good reputation is a must in being a part of the Royal family, a Royal has and obligation to be always thoughtful in example, with honor and respect to the Throne.
