The missed wake up call sounds similar to the situation that got Buddy Landel fired from JCP / NWA Mid Atlantic back in 1986 just before he was about to be programmed with Ric Flair in a “battle of the Nature Boys” feud while Flair was the NWA champion. Landel missed the TV tapings at WTBS despite getting the call that he was late, so he was fired. They were going to shoot the angle to set up the feud between Landel and Flair, but he blew that up by not showing up for the taping. Probably cost him some good money as JCP was hitting its stride about that time.

Luckily, it looks as though WWE has become much more lenient when it comes to asking for time off, now that Triple H is in control. Sami Zayn being written off recently was later revealed to simply be a case of Sami asking for some personal time off, and from all reports Hunter realized that the talent should be given more time to spend with their family for special moments that they historically used to miss, like children's birthdays. Some feel that Hunter's health scare not long ago made him further appreciate the limited time that we all have in life, so now the company is more willing to give talent those extra moments to be with their families, though I'm sure there are still limits to prevent people from taking advantage of that.

I didn’t watch wrestling anymore by the time Maven made his debut. So I have no idea what kind of a wrestler he was. But he is a natural when it comes to KZbin. I always enjoy his vids and look forward to the next.

What I learn from all this videos (Great content btw) is that by signing a Wwe contract you are basically selling your soul to them. You start living exclusively for the benefit of the company and you better forget about having your own life. You must arrive 8 hours in advance, leave 3 hours late, kiss ass of anybody who has a higher status than you, pay for the traveling, hotels, food, etc. You must risk your life by using roids to look good and to endure the injuries, and you are the one who will pay for them, not WWE. Do not even dare to say something, or to ask for time off (unless your mother is dying), because they will fire you. In other words, WWE takes full advantage of the person’s desire of becoming a WWE superstar, and makes him their slave. “We will pay you enough money to make a decent living, and you can have the satisfaction of being a WWE superstar. In return we will own you 24/7 and you better forget about having a life outside of this company. Now you exist exclusively for this company and your only goal in life must be to make McMahon even more rich”

Hey maven , I just wanted to say I love the channel. I could listen to to talk for hours you truly have gift man . The podcast you did with Sam Roberts was great and the amount of ground you all covered was cool to hear . From wrestling, to LeBron James, to hair and hair loss. I totally felt what you said about shaving your head and it coming to a point when you notice its no longer your choice. As someone whos been doing it since his teens and is now almost forty that realization hit hard man . Its horrendous that asking for time off is the #1 thing to get you in trouble. Wrestlers are human, and this is a big reason wrestlers keep dying young. Its hard on the body, and takes years off life. Wrestling needs an off season.

Hey Maven! Love your videos brother, I know you probably hear this a lot but you come across like a down to earth honest guy which is awesome. One idea and it's just something I'd personally love, have you considered doing like a "week in the life" video of what it was like as a WWE wrestler? You heard from CM Punk that the whole having holidays and time off discussion is, or at least was very difficult in WWE. I remember when he was in an interview at a convention he talked about it again and the host said that now WWE give their wrestlers time off, like for honey moon. Punk was not sure if this was a joke, because he said when he Married AJ you had to ask for days off, not certain if you get anything, not even for honey moon. And as we know that what he got at his marriage from WWE was his papers, because they fired him. Now he is back, let's see how it goes, this time! 😁
