and not skimping out on the casual classism and sexism thereof. So many think that indigenous peoples were all sunshine and rainbows egalitarian paradises (and to be fair a few were, especially in comparison to their colonizers) but so many were unfathomably cruel and oppressive, even by medieval European standards and many more who did practice "equality" were very arbitrary in how they applied it.

@@fmwyt95 Yeah here in Canada we're regularly reminded of how evil our European ancestors were to the natives, and yeah there was some truly unjustifiable evil done. But they don't talk about the times where the Natives attacked first, our how Native culture included just straight up pillaging other people for their scalps. I'm proud of my ancestry, and at the same time I love and respect Native culture, but man what I see for example a TD bank ad having a Native elder say "we are a proud and peaceful people" my eyes roll fast enough to power Germany.

Correcting some Misinformation here, Oli is not only for Kahuna everyone learned it because when you took from the land or ocean or went to a foreign place you had to do an Oli to ask for permission, and Women did Oli also.... And in Hawaiiana classes growing up all of us had to stand outside the Kumu Hawaiianas classroom and do an oli to ask permission to enter... so the last part is wrong Also the Hooponopono thing was between close family members or friends not strangers, and you couldnt force forgiveness the ceremony was done and the offended given time to decide if they want to forgive or not Queen Keopuolani also had a special tapu called Moe Kapu, anyone who came before her had to strip naked and fall on their face before them.
