@zawsrdtygbhjimokpl69984 жыл бұрын
thousands of years is barely anything for evolution as it tends to be slow. Secondly, to develop or improve you need selection and there wasn't enough pressure to root out the irregularities that by themselves couldn't significantly outweigh the already high survivability likelihood or so I think.

4:42 This actually reminds me of something similar. In the late 90s and early 2000s, we found feathered dinosaur skeletons from China called Scansoriopterygids. When we first found their skeletons, like the ones of Epidexipteryx, we just thought they had REALLY LONG fingers, like an Aye-Aye lemur (or that non context bat drawing). However, it turns out that, just like bats, they had leathery skin in between their fingers that also linked to their arms to become wings. Essentially, they were feathered dino bats before the existence of bats.
@XXMatt0040XX Жыл бұрын
I accidently clicked off the video before pressing send... But I'm going to redo it because *that is fascinating.* The moment I saw "feathered dinosaur" I had to know. That's probably the craziest example of Convergent Evolution I've read. And proof that the Bat-Build is overpowered. For anyone who doesn't know; Convergent Evolution is the concept that animals tend to evolve into very similar things, despite them actually having no relation. Many "crabs" are just... species that evolved into a crab-like form. We're only "smart" monkeys because other apes don't walk upright. Because we do, it gave us essentially "extra space" for the brain. Which is why natural selection has made half of us suffer through a pain I cannot comprehend. I believe aliens of equal intelligence would look stunningly similar to us, mammalian or not.

@@nicomoist5336 The reason our spines are fucking dumb is because of the curves in it. Most quadrupedal animals have a strait spine and muscular system that helps keep their heads from flopping around like a limp noodle, but because we evolved from semi-quadrupedal into bipedal proto-humans our spines had to do some dumb shit in order to support or freakishly large heads in place of muscles and stay clear our birth canal. Namely, it had to curve, and you don't need a degree in physics and engineering to know that a support pillar with a bend in it is just waiting to collapse. And that's exactly what it eventually does. Evolution doesn't create the perfect organism, it creates the "good enough" organism.

Fun fact, we already do this. There are a metric fuck ton of invertebrates in the fossil record that have zero living relatives, hell for the first few hundred million years of complex life (that we know of) everything was an invertebrate. We have to look at the little things we can like preserved hard parts a la squid beaks or shells, and even bite marks or things like burrows in the mud; sometimes we get one of these things that's been flattened and preserved so you can see soft tissue outlines, but half the time we don't know what to make of those either.

The Chinese language families use a lot of "creative" interpretations characters though don't they? Like they all started as a collection of smaller symbols that meant concrete things like "water" and "mountain" and they were combined and used to convey other concepts or just syllables. At least that is my western "I don't speak a Chinese language" understanding. So if that's correct, the same symbol could convey "standing" "scheming" and "conducting business" depending on context.

The pelvic bone remnant of orcas (and of other cetaceans) is actually extremely useful as it serves as an attachment point for genital muscles. This means whales would've had a way harder time reproducing without that pelvis remnant, which is why it didn't completely disappear.

Sam really ranked humans who experience slight back pain (a symptom of poor posture not the fault of the skeleton) as having a worse skeleton than a creature who literally grows its teeth so long it kills itself
@breadman05124 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: There's a reason the orca skeleton reminded you of scp 682, that's because the image must commonly used for 682 is actually a beluga whale skeleton washed on shore covered in seaweed. P.S. Yeah, human skeletons are an absolute nightmare. Our feet and spine are designed so badly in the long term, do you know why old people are always hunched over? It's because certain bones in their spines have literally just broken due to all the stress standing upright has caused it over several decades. And about that head to pelvis size ratio, have you ever wondered why humans are born not being able to do sh*t for themselves while pretty much every other animal comes out already being able to walk? That's because are heads are so large that our bodies "solution" to not permanently crippling the mother is to just get them out of her early before the head is too big to push out without destroying her pelvis anymore and it's *STILL* one of the most painful experiences a human can have. Thanks evolution.
@Adam-vd6zd3 жыл бұрын
I would argue that it is to be expected that our skeletons aren’t suited to how long we live considering that we can only live this long thanks to science which advances faster than evolution.
@clairelili8733 жыл бұрын
we just live long as fuck because of science tbh. we should be dying at around 50-60 years, but our cells now last a lot longer because of modern medicine. so now the skeleton is like "fuck, do i really need to sustain this for 30-40 years more? brb gonna snap myself"
@anna_banana4143 жыл бұрын
dude im absolutely terrified about giving birth because of that. like on the off chance that i do decide to have a baby, im NOT looking forward to carrying an extra lump of human sack on my stomach for nine months while walking up right, plus the whole birth giving part. like how am i supposed to push out a whole HUMAN from a hole that’s like the size of a coin????? this shit terrifies me

@@clairelili873 True, honestly, more like 30-40 years without any medicine or science or advancement of civilization, like, we'd have to go out and scavenge for food each and every day, that's a lot more walking considering the human's solution to not being as fast is that we literally just chace the animals until they get tired. Also, disease, mouth rot and a bunch of other problems and health complications like cancer and sun burn. Oh wow, your appendix just bursted? Well I guess your just going to be in incredible pain for a while until you die. Btw, another fun fact, did you know there are enough bones in the human body to form an entire *sKeLeToN?*

Also, despite the "killer whale" in it's name, Orcas are actually dolphins, not whales. And yeah, walking blue whales would be terrifying. EDIT: So, it turns out my initial comment is both right and wrong. Yes the Orcas are a member of the delphinoidea family, that is correct. Delphinoidea family is a suborder of the Odontoceti order. Odontoceti is a member of the Cetacean infraorder. Now, Odontoceti order (formal) is commonly known as toothed whales order (informal). So does that mean that all dolphins are whales? Technically yes, all dolphins are toothed whales (not the same as baleen whales, for example the Blue Whale). So what makes a dolphin a dolphin, and a whale a whale. It turns out that the term "whale", is an informal term, used to describe all members of the Cetacean infraorder, excluding dolphins and porpoises. "Dolphin", on the other hand, also an informal term, refers to the Delphinidae, Platanistidae, Iniidae and Pontoporiidae families. But how can dolphins belong to the toothed whale order, while not being whales themselves? Is a large member of the Delphinidae family (Orcas) a whale or a dophin? What about the beluga whales, which are small whales, which belong to a Delphinidae subfamily called Monodontidae? Why are they whales and not dolphins? So, to avoid confusion, keep in mind that the terms "whale" and "dolphin" are totally wrong. That's where this confusion is all about. If you want to be technically correct just refer to everything as "cetaceans". The terms "whale" and "dolphin" do not appear in the formal taxonomy.

What is SCP?
@tfk_0014 жыл бұрын
3:15 fun fact SCP-682's image was pirated from a Russian website and was originally a whale skeleton found washed up on a beach in advanced stages of decay that Dr. Gears just cropped the watermark off of. So that's why whales look like the hard to destroy reptile. Because it isn't a reptile. Also speaking of scp fingerboy reminds me of what 4666 would look like Edit: 682's image was updated

@@CallMeHector in case you don't know, scp foundation is a fake online organization where people can create fake "SCP's" and share them on the site. There are thousands of them and its pretty fun to dive into :) And yeah SCP-682 is a famous one, anytime another story has something that seems like it can kill anything they pull out SCP-682 and show that its not
