Funny story: in the 1930s, my great-grandfather owned and worked a farm in Iowa. When that act was enacted, he buried his gold on the farm and nobody was any the wiser. He never trusted the government, and it turned out to benefit him more in the long run.

In Texas, if you have a bank account and don't move any money in or out of it for at least two years, the state can just take all the money in that account for itself. Thanks, Ann Richards! Edit: Yesterday, December 10th, 2022, my banker told me that the state does not fully take the money from you. After three years of no activity, they hold it in trust, but are not allowed to take it. This is one time where I'm glad to be wrong.

Oh this was amazing, but scary with what can be done in the name of the law 😮 In the UK there was also a tax on clocks and watches in 1797. It's why so many beautiful and exquisite long case clocks (grandfather clocks) in particular were destroyed for firewood! My old girl is from around 1750 by Mark Metcalfe of Askrigg in the Yorkshire Dales and still works today as an eight day long case clock with working repeater bar (for any horologists here!) I was absolutely gobsmacked when I learnt about the clock tax and realise that even at the earliest parts of her life, she could so easily have been wrecked for firewood to avoid the tax 😮 Tax is a very peculiar thing 😒

Families of the victims despised this action, and so would by the paintings and burn them immediately.

There's other ways they can legally steal your money. About 5 or 6 years ago, my ex owed a few thousand in back child support. He got a big tax return and of course the government will take that to pay said child support, so I was expecting to get about a 600 dollar payment. I never received it. Civil Asset Forfeiture is the most unamerican law. Any legitimate uses has been greatly overshadowed by the policing for profit departments. The FBI has seized whole racks of safe deposit boxes in California and refuse to return them and items from them have disappeared. One local police department with the help of the feds seized an armored van carrying money from a local legal weed store. It may be legal locally but it is still federally illegal. The cost of lawyers and courts make it not worth fighting anything under $10,000. Illinois lawyers have argued in court that they could seize cars for any minor traffic violations. The list goes on and elections are near.

And the really big problem with civil forfeiture is that the police will do absolutely anything to prevent the owner of that money from ever receiving it back, even under direct court order! For example, there was this one man who had $100,000 taken from him, and the Court ruled that the police were to return all the money immediately! However, they said they gave that money to the FBI and that it would be up to them to give that money back. The judge held them in contempt however nothing came of it... It was later found out that those police spent the money after the FBI gave the money back (once the court proceedings were over.) I do believe that we need police to keep our country safe, however that doesn't mean I like them, it doesn't mean I trust them, and unlike how Fox News likes to State constantly, yes, the majority of police are rotten to the Core! After all, they are just bad 🍎's. It's just that they're almost "All" bad apples!!! (Get it? Bad to the "Core." Apple 🍎 Core!?)

Sir, you made me unintentionally give my keyboard an uppercut from all the rage and frustration I gained from watching this video. It was already missing some buttons. Now one of the "legs" that would hold the board upright has fallen off. Not any fault of yours, of course. I think it's going to be retired shortly.

VERY TRUE, my truck was seized three times by a local law enforcement because they said it was used in commission of a crime they could not tell me what crime it was but each time the phone went up between $500 to $800. I ended up refinancing the truck and after that they never seized it again!!!

And along the same lines of what takes place in this video, NYC is moving toward a Bee-Ess "congestion pricing" scheme, charging each car anywhere from $9 to $23 for driving south of 60th street in Manhattan.

So if you steal from someone or the government, that's crime. But if the government steals from you, it's society, politics, and community.

Civil asset forfeiture abuse is an insult to law abiding Americans. There needs to be a massive change in this system.
@williamromine57152 жыл бұрын
Please keep in mind that you are hearing only one side. For example, Eminent Domain is a very important need any society in order to provide for the public good. The government has to pay fair market value. And because of abuses such as he referred to, most states have tightened up their laws to prevent such abuses. My point is that you shouldn't jump to conclusions about a law based upon a u-tube video.

re: the forfeiture $$$ .... they did face justice for doing so: According to local news reports, a city audit found that the funds were being misappropriated and improperly spent. Asset forfeiture funds are supposed to be used to pay policing expenses, but they were being funneled elsewhere to fund other activities, such as trips for non-law enforcement personnel. Furthermore, the town's police chief (who has been fired) has been accused of getting an outside job with a private security company and using city resources (including asset forfeiture funds) to promote the company.
