More common putting mistakes. In this weeks golf tips video Brian Fitzgerald The Golf Doctor shows you more common putting mistakes and kangaroos. Yes kangaroos feature in this video. I saw some as I was setting up to film but I got a real surprise when I started editing and saw them in the background.
This video contains a nice collection of simple putting mistakes golfers make and some good ways to fix them.

My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Morack Public GC in Vermont South and the Lang Lang GC in beautiful South Gippsland (An hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
Why do you make videos for KZbin? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
Do you make money off KZbin? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/thegolfdoctor
Thanks for watching!
Brian

I appreciate your support Mario. A 4 hcp is very good. Which aspect of your golf game do you think you need to improve to get lower? I love everything Italian Mario. I have been making my own pasta for over 30 years.... I hope to get there one day. Brian

@@fitzygolfpro And Australia has always been my dream! Thank you for answering Brian. Would love to see you playing in my home course, Golf Nazionale! I re-started playing Golf a couple of months ago after a 12 years break, my hcp was 2.5 at its lowest peak. Now I shot between 78 and 82 from back tees (my course is one of the hardest in Italy though, yet rated top 10 of the most beautiful). I already managed to do 1 or 2 birdies per round, problem at the moment is consistency. Sometimes I just lose a ball out of bounds, or make fat shots and go for a triple. 2 days ago I started par-triple-par-triple, with par holes being the hardest and triple on way easier holes. ahahah, but I'm having so much fun anyway. I'm positive within a year I will go back to my 2 handicap, I need consistency and I need to try to keep the game as simple as possible. I also love simplicity, but for that I need more training. (I played since 11 to 21 years old, so luckily it took me very short time to get back on track) In short words, I notice that my problem start when I don't hit the driver\tee shot in the fairway. Penalties, also in my golf course you lose the ball very easily if miss the fairway. Your advices on putting\short game\ mentality were incredibly helpful. I can say without any doubt that you're the best teacher, it took me two months to find you scrolling the infinite youtube golf section. What I love is that advices you give can be helpful to a high handicap as much as a low one. And they are very quality ones. I hope we will be able to meet one day, either in Australia or Italy. I wish you the best Brian, thanks for replying to me :)

It is funny @Mario I was in an Italian restaurant in Melbourne yesterday with my father and his mates. I eat and drink Italian fluently... I went to the toilet at one stage. When I came out the chef was there and he asked me what my name was? I said Brian. What is your Surname? I said Fitzgerald. He said I knew it was you. "The Golf Doctor". He watches all of my videos. I then spent the next 20 minutes giving him a golf lesson in the kitchen/ Service might have been a bit slow at the time. It was quite funny. I know you will achieve your goal. Too get from where you are to where you want to go it is about making better on course decisions. Not firing at flag sticks so often is a big one. Missing in good spots. Tidying up the short game and improving putting distance control and green reading. I would love to meet you one day. Your golf course sounds wonderful. Keep having fun. Brian

@@fitzygolfpro eat and drink Italian fluently ahahah that was a great one. I'm honored to know you like food and drinks from my country, I do too!! You're such a high soul yet so humble, I love it. "Not firing at flag sticks so often".. I also downloaded your pdf with this advice among others and yes, it's absolutely true... I need to make better course decisions and try to miss in good spots. That's surely what I'm missing!! Thank you so much for your words Brian, I sincerely appreciate your direct support and I strongly hope we will meet one day. Maybe when you have a couple minutes type here on youtube Golf Nazionale Italia and I'm sure you will love this very green and full of trees Italian environment, there's a great showdown of the 18 holes. Again, blessings to you Master!!! Hope to meet one day.

Basically you are telling us very politely if you don't put enough time and effort into putting practice you are eFFed. Absolutely CORRECT. I have improved my putting by practicing putting in the bedroom on the carpet when the wife is watching soaps.I just go up to my bedroom, put some music on and practice 10 foot putts, Straight line putting on the 1m rule and i have a cheap laser measuring tape which draws a line on the floor and i try and and follow the laser line with my ball. I still make one or two 3 putts but I also make quite a few pars. Thanks Brian keep up the good work.

That is fantastic Pangayee. You reap what you sow is the main thrust. Can I suggest you get a putting mat and put it on a piece of ply wood. Then you could place some books under the ply on the right to create a right to left breaking putt. You could vary the break this way to make it more life like. Thanks for watching and keep working on that putting.

Great video Brian. The last one has already helped my putting. I always find that I putt best by just concentrating at looking at the hole as soon as I hit the putt and think of nothing else. The course looks so good in a really picturesque area. Not too much rough but plenty of trees! Do you ever see venomous snakes on your course or are you too far south? Best wishes David

Hi David. Thanks for watching and I am glad the videos have helped you. It’s great you have locked in to what works for you. It’s something you can keep going back to down the track. Lang Lang is a beautiful course with lots of wildlife. That includes snakes. Snakes are everywhere including Tasmania. I saw a big one a few years ago at Barnbougle Dunes. Now that is a golf course. Us golfers are very lucky to be able to be so close to nature when we play. Snakes I can live without. Have a great week. Brian

Thanks Brian, always enjoy your instruction. I have been using the Blast device for some time after seeing it in one of your previous videos and find it really helpful. Apart from working on tempo, I am now concentrating on getting the rotational change and loft change readings as low as possible. Do you think this is a good approach?
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro 4 жыл бұрын
Great to hear! Robert. I love Blast as I have said before. I find the most important metrics in order are Back stoke Time, Tempo (2:1), Rotational change (as close to zero as possible). After that would be Loft change and Lie change. I am glad you enjoy my videos and thanks for watching. Brian

Great video! What? No Roo Poo on this video? Three putting from 15 ft? Did they watch your lag putting video? Practice putting should be lag putting from 20 to 50 ft or 6 to 15 meters. If you can get 90% of these within 2 ft of the hole your score will be better. My putter is a Boccieri A-4:Heavy putter. Extremely heavy head with a counterbalanced shaft. Total weight of the putter is about 2.5 US pounds.

Excellent advice Phil. Thanks for your contribution. Heavy putters are certainly good on medium to slow greens. Not so good on fast greens. Ultimately it's what works for the individual. there is a ton of roo poo at Lang Lang. Maybe I should incorporate some more to be used as training aids in some future videos. Thanks for watching.
