It's just the nature of Tera cards - they are generally not crowd's favorites in terms of designs on account they have to accommodate Burger King crowns and shinny scaly surfaces instead of just plain old Pokémon we all learned to love. Nothing to do with bashing artists, just the Tera aspect is not doing them any favors. That being said, those cards are amazing and you can't expect that 9 new SARs will all take top 9 positions of best SARs ever, regardless which Pokémon is on them. It's more a math problem at this point.

His tweet would make sense if we were all in a museum looking at these artworks and the artist was there in the room. In that context, yeah it'd be rude to say anything negative, although people would still have the right to. But, we are all consumers and these artists should know that their art is being used for a product that the company is trying to sell to us. Also, not sure I agree with treating Japanese artists like children and trying to shield them from any criticism. Any good artist has had criticism thrown their way before. For these cards in particular, 99% of the negativity I've seen has been about the tera hats, which everyone knows is not the artists' fault - that's a gimmick that the Pokemon Company decided should be present in the cards. If anything, it seems that people get more mad when a card looks really good and it also has the tera hat, because they think the hat "ruins" the good art that's there.

The promo cards from the Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon collection boxes that came out a few years ago were better. The Crown Zenith Leafeon? 10/10. The leaked cards are blurry, but I can see the dumb hats and cluttered backgrounds just fine.

What I find most funny about this leak is the people that express that they're "underwhelmed." In order to feel that, they have to first have some expectations that they built up in their brains of what the cards "should" look like. We already knew that the terrestrial Pokemon would have these jeweled crowns on their heads, so I'm not sure what the hell else there is to feel "underwhelmed" about. You either like the cards, you don't, or are somewhere in the middle. Of course, none of this will mean anything to these "underwhelmed" people if the card prices shoot through the roof. Then it'll be "wow, these cards look so much better in person" or "this is all hype and the prices are going to crash." There's never a middle ground in this community. You either love the cards/sets or you hate them. Can't just be solid, or good, or decent. Not allowed.

What he's saying is actually very patronizing of the artists and is infantilizing them and assuming a hell of a lot about how they feel. Let me make this 100% clear for anybody who is maybe not familiar with what it takes to become a professionally employed artist of ANY kind, but especially one that is renowned and has enough of a reputation to be working for big daddy Pokemon - There is absolutely ZERO chance you will make it as an industry artist if you can't handle criticism, and when I say criticism, I mean ANY and ALL criticism, from constructive, to some random person saying "this picture sucks." I promise you, they've probably heard worse from their teachers and employers than anything some randoms on twitter have to say. Acting as if the artists are delicate and sensitive, as if they haven't been doing this shit for years and haven't had to thicken up their skin, is frankly absurd to me. If they couldn't handle this shit, they wouldn't be in the positions they are now. You think a massive company WANTS sensitive artists who can't handle people saying mean things about their work? They do not, those kinds of people are a liability and reflect poorly on the company when they inevitably cause a scene on social media. You can see this exact PR nightmare playing out from multiple different movies where an actor / actress starts FREAKING out over fan reception and criticism, and makes it a million times worse by bringing even more negative publicity and hate towards them and their work.

if you spent 2 seconds going to read my actual tweet instead of automatically believing what somebody told you in a YT video, you'd see my criticism was of people evaluating the card based on an extremely blurred leak instead of the actual full card. if you wanna dislike and critique a card, go for it, i have never been 1 to stop people doing that. go and find where i've said such things (you won't). there's certainly a way to go about it criticising art and cards - not everybody has to like everything! but if you're going to criticise a piece based on a blurred, skewed version, or a version upscaled by AI (even worse!) then that evaluation has no merit. the final piece is not being observed and so that criticism holds no weight. now let's see if you still feel as strongly about this now that you actually understand the context of what i was talking about, instead of the words old mate over here shoved in my mouth and went to print on. high chance you don't reply; you just wanted to beat your chest loudly.
