Nice work! As an ENFJ, I don’t really see myself as the most extroverted. In fact, I’m more than happy to let a person of another type take center stage while I quietly observe on the side. Having said that, I am often compelled to fill a leadership void when one exists.
@scudgie1
@scudgie1 Жыл бұрын
I was just thinking the same thing about the level of extroversion. It took me a long time to realize I was an extrovert due to being so shy for so long. But I know now it was a conditioned response. I do think ENFJ's are not the type to wield strong energy in in a room until they get a "read" of their environment, though. I've lost a lot of shyness, but I think my Fe monitors how I bring energy into a situation with people. I try to tune into what's needed rather than assume. It's all rather subconscious, but I see the pattern now that I understand my function stack.

I completely feel the same way! I like to be the one off to the side observing. However, I've had people say that I seem to be the one that wants to be the center of attention but completely the opposite. Perhaps it's my charisma and charm that I'm able to socialize with many types, but I'd prefer to be the chameleon and watch and listen to others and of course occasionally ask personal questions to truly get to know someone. I will take the initiative if no one will takes lead but for the most part, I don't mind being on the sidelines.
@AntoineLavoisier

I thoroughly enjoy being the center of attention when I’m in a group of large people like at a party or giving a talk at a conference but I’m more likely to pull back in small groups to the point that some wonder if I’m introverted. The setting and who is present there definitely matters. Fe is all about social appropriateness so I am very serious and more in an Ni-Ti loop at work unless certain people are present and work conditions allow for more social behavior. Bottom line is that it’s highly situational whether I’m the life of the party or not. I need to check the Fe guidelines.

I work with an ENFJ and while she seems to know everyone and can talk to anyone, she's got a quiet demeanor about her. Whenever I'm in her presence, there's just a natural warmth emitting from her. As an ISTP people mostly get on my nerves, I'm good to be left alone for the whole day but when she comes around, I'm a whole other person. She's so damn slick about getting me to talk about myself, even when I'm resolved to not let her do it, it happens every damn time. I switch the conversation back to her, then I realise we're talking about me again lol. I can be my normal misanthropic abrasive self around her and it doesn't bother her in the slightest, she finds it hilarious. I can say they're the only type I'd be happy to be surrounded by.

Yay, ENFJ video! Here are my thoughts about what you said: 1. ENFJs are not always very extraverted. For me, my Fe prioritizes social harmony, and so I often tip-toe around conversation to make sure that nobody is offended. Also, I like what you said about your friend who doesn't like her words dissected into different parts. Our Se says... take it for what it is and then leave it, don't think about it too hard or you're going to come up with incorrect assumptions. 2. Everything that comes out of my mouth has a purpose. Stories make everything more interesting. It's so funny to listen to a Si-dominant to talk about things that they like. Do I care about your trip to the mountains? Only if talking about it makes you happy. 3. My gut instincts about people are so uncanny. I love social reality TV shows like Big Brother and Survivor. I don't mean to brag, but it's pretty easy to tell from the beginning who is going to succeed and who will fail. But my "gut instincts" also often tell me that people don't like me... so... that's unhealthy. 4. It's so rare for people to ENFJ me. When they do.... it's like magic.

It’s all true! I love a good conversation. I especially like turning a so-so convo into something fun and witty or light-heartedly introspective.Also, it’s impossible to tell how many people have poured out their hearts to me. It’s always unexpected and an honor. Every once and a while someone will ENFJ me. It’s disorienting at first, but great!

Thanks so much for more ENFJ content! Very solid stuff, although I do wonder about us being at the top end of extroversion. I am constantly modulating my energy to the need of the moment. Is it even possible for an ENFJ to come out swinging, metaphorically speaking, with extroversion before they read the room? Maybe it's because I battled shyness for so long. Or because I feel so terrible when I've missed a cue and ended up not meeting a need I "should" have seen. I have caught myself in Fe burnout, though, and had to shift into better self-care. So much stimulation... I enjoy partnering my Fe with Ni. I'm sure it's why I'm a bit obsessed with subtext. Drawing out meaning or figuring out the best way to articulate meaning. For the good of humanity, of course. I actually get a little triggered by the thought that my type could use their gifts for evil, although that must exist. The thought of hurting people is a nightmare to me. So yeah, I hate that good social skills get called manipulation.
@dijariza8304

I saw a ranking on extraversion the other day and was surprised that ENFJ was placed at the top 😂 But when I think about it, it makes sense in the way of how much ENFJs love people and humanity. ENFJs get energy from being around people and thrive being around people. The stereotypes of extrovert is being loud and outspoken. But ENFJ has introverted intuition and would attune themselves when communicating due to how highly perceptive they are of people, so an ENFJ probably wouldn't come across fitting the usual extrovert stereotypes. What do you think?

About conversation, I see conversation as a way of exalting all of the participants. It has rules that can be pointed down to a science and I actually feel so excited when I come across with complex rationalizations of what I understand instinctively. From my point of view, overanalyzing the implicit premises makes sense only if what we are playing isn't a zero-sum game and we are actually collaborating in creating this flow where either we all win or lose together. If you can build this frame of conversation it is easy to put people in the best condition for awarding you their respect, and with that comes everything and trust me, most people don't realize how much they want and need just to let their hearts out. Because all of this come from an implicit knowledge of the social world I can see how Enfj are easily used for the manipulator/mentor tropes. I actually think that making all these processes explicit can be really useful to catch yourself and decide how you wanna use your talents

This💛 don't really crave attention. My goal is to make ppl happy and feel comfortable and mainly at my expense ( making them laugh at me or putting myself last), not trying to get attention in the way ppl have said as a LEO or an ENFJ ( as I am both). Most times I'm just trying to sneak through life and ppl gravitate towards me. Sometimes its annoying because I want alone time, invisibility if you will.

I particularly enjoyed and related to the part about conversation. I see myself as quite serious sometimes (I think it might be also because I'm an 8w7), but really I just want to delve into topics that have intense meaning especially about people. My brain simple isn't stimulated when talking about more "surface" level things, which sometimes actually includes my general likes and dislikes. Also, I find it interesting that other enfj's relate to this whole living life like a story thing. I thought I was crazy for a long time 😅😅 I wouldn't say I actively think about myself as the main character, but maybe subconsciously I do, I don't know. Whenever I'm going to make a decision that might turn out awkward or embarrassing, I kind of just think "what if this turns out great and it happens like a fantasy story". I truly believe that sometimes stories do come true in the sense that anything is possible. -enfj ❤❤

Random thought but I think that ENFJs seem to get along better with the INFPs and INFJs than they do ENFPS. Same with INFJs getting along well with the ENFPs and ENFJs more so than their fellow introvert. ENTPs seem to get along well with INTPs and INTJs but always seem to clash with ENTJ (probably cause they have no functions in common AND a different order.) this seems to be a pattern. Any thoughts?

I've not found this to be true, personally. My INFP sister and I clash - often - because of our inverted 1st and 3rd functions. This is not to say we fight outright - we can, but I rarely find it useful so therefore it's usually avoided - but we definitely have a great deal of trouble understanding one another. - ENFJ

To steelman the philosophy espoused by your friend, one could do worse than invoke Keats' "negative capability" (with kind permission from Wikipedia):- "We hate poetry that has a palpable design upon us-and if we do not agree, seems to put its hand in its breeches pocket. Poetry should be great & unobtrusive, a thing which enters into one's soul, and does not startle it or amaze it with itself but with its subject."

Great video, as always! My ENFJ gut/intuition tells me there will be a few comments from INFJs saying something along the lines of "As an INFJ...," "although I'm an INFJ..." or "despite being an INFJ..." Why can't INFJs ever comment on another personality type without having to make it about themselves? It's enjoyable to comment on ISFJ videos about their selflessness or INFP videos about how awesome they are as people...or even complimenting ENTP for their effortless debating skills. Try it sometime, INFJ narcissists.
