as for battery level drop, again there will be monitoring in place (or should be) to ensure the cells don't go lower than a certain level where damage may occur. The user doesn't have to worry about this. Going to 0% is still well above the point where a battery might run into trouble. The only thing to be careful of is not leaving the set at 0% for months as this may see some drop over time into the danger zone. Best to always leave somewhere from a third to 2 thirds charged if not using for a long period of time

I think you don't know what you're talking about yourself.... It's not a ev. It pushes itself right to the edge between minimal damage and substantial damage. Just like phones do. You shouldn't keep it between 20-80% and you can increase its lifespan from 2-3 years to at least double. If not used it should be kept at ~30% because then its above the recommended max discharge for optimal cycle life and just little enough to keep the reactivity relatively low in the chemistry. Fiy it's a lion polymer battery.

Do Nots: (Really useful stuff - thanks 👍🏼) 1. Don’t yank the face pad - Be gentle, or it’ll break. 2. Don’t use high-watt chargers - Stick to 18W or stock. 3. Don’t overcharge it - Unplug when the light’s green. 4. Don’t drain the battery - Keep it above 20%. 5. Don’t clean lenses with random stuff - Use microfiber only. 6. Don’t expose lenses to sunlight - They’ll fry the display. 7. Don’t leave sensors in the sun - Play it safe. 8. Don’t buy Meta’s overpriced accessories - Third-party is better. 9. Don’t forget: lenses + sun = disaster - Seriously, don’t.

I initially bought the Elite strap for Q2 thinking I might be getting something a little bit better over the amazon models that were only about 15 dollars cheaper on average. When the first one broke, I had reason to believe my wife set something on it, though it really didn't look like it would have been enough weight to do it- but I chalked it up an accident. I was out of town, so I bought another elite strap (as it was my only option), and within a very little use, it also broke. This time, it was in a hardshell case and side piece was broke in pretty much the exact same spot. I ducted taped it this time, and it's remained like that since. Needless to say, I won't be buying any more Quest accessories, and it makes it even a bigger joke that they're trying to charge even more for their accessories with the Q3.

@@noahkobeski4444 Battery management system. A lithium battery for larger devices typically has multiple cells per battery. as for multi cell batteries... one would need to be running a fairly cheap setup to be charging cells in series and hoping they'll stay balanced. Most things use a battery management charger with hooks into each midpoint between cells to balance them and ensure they all get to the right level.
@adamrak756011 ай бұрын
the cheaper balancer (BMS) has a limited current capacity, if the difference between the cells is more than that, then it can report fully charged state, even if some cells are not charged, but that is always a bug. What should happen is slow charging, limited by the BMS current capacity, until every cell is full. For battery health and to charge all simultaneously usually the last 10%-20% always uses slow charging with less current than what the BMS can do. Alternatively, they can install proper BMS which has the same balancing capacity as charging capacity, instead of cheapening out (this is the recommended design after all!).
@ksptm411 ай бұрын
I work within battery technology and you're "half right" in regards to Lithium Batteries, (Li-On, Li-Po, NimH) batteries once fully charged will not continue to charge and would not continually diminish the batteries capacity. It is only the depletion of a battery over many cycles that would cause this. The Quest 1, 2 and 3 all had "Smart Charge" which prevent over charging or constant yo-yo charging from AC-in/DC-out currents. The single most important thing is to ensure is the charging block is correct. The amps are far more important here than the wattage and it's typically over-ampage that would damage your unit, whereas over-wattage will just cripple your battery. As you rightfully said, use stock cables/charge block unless you know what you're doing. (Qualified Electrical Engineer and BS EN IEC 62485-5:2021 / BS5266-1:2016 accredited which covers alot of Battery based information under Emergency Lighting Standards).

The elite strap doesn’t charge the headset. In fact, the elite strap is the only proper battery strap made. Since it works with the headset firmware. You can see 2 batteries in the hud. It will use the strap battery first, then it will use the headset battery when it’s out. In fact. Battery straps should never charge the headset while playing. I think eventually, 3rd party battery straps will use a similar tech that the elite strap uses. Also I use a 120w PD charger that defaults to 18w and never gets hot. And if you use a thunderbolt 4 port while pcvr it will charge and play at the same time no issues.

About the battery thing, is quiet weird. Because the EXTRA BATTERY head straps are basically portable chargers to charge the Quest WHILE PLAYING. Is the same as playing with the charger on a wall port with the cable. I bought a Quest 3 and I am always using the extra battery instead of the Quest it self. Same as using an iPhone always plugged on my portable charger, or my Insta360 always plugged while shooting timelapses, or my LAPTOP always charging, or my DJI drone always on charging while I am wireless transferring data. Maybe those melting ports ARE FROM SHITTY third party products, but I will keep playing and leaving my Quest ALWAYS plugged while playing or not playing. I will be back if it melts.

I foolishly bought the elite strap when I bought my Quest 3 a week ago. It's ok and functional. I do find it comfortable but definitely could be better for the money. I did buy a third-party link cable and external battery (the PrismXR Carina W1 belt is AWESOME! - can't recommend it enough) so I dodged those bullets anyway. All in all, I'm not disappointed with the Elite Strap, but I do wish I had looked around a bit more. I have a thin face and will probably get something with front/forehead support as the headset tends to slide down my face, losing the sweet spot unless I really crank down the tightness, which does make it less than comfortable unless I have it absolutely perfect. Anyway, that's my story - not sure why I felt compelled to tell it though! 🤣

The one for the quest three for instance has a wide strap on top of your head with a slightly wider pad in the middle, to use for headphones/headsets. imo it does a way better job than the actual elite strap by meta, because neither the one of my quest two nor quest three have broken thusfar, whereas the ones from Meta did. 😅

That melting port issue is most likely caused by rough handling of the cable into the port making the contacts loose. This reduces the cross section of the connector meaning current will try to flow through less material causing heat to build up in the connector due to higher resistance. Similar thing happened with the 4090 GPU's, because the connectors on those were being pulled to one side due to the way the cables went into the cards. Make sure your usb connector is nice and firm in the socket, if not, it needs to be replaced.

As you said it's about the CYCLES and ideally you just never use the battery but even leave it plugged in while using it, same goes for phones and laptops. Now if you can leave it at 50-80% rather than 100%, that's even better, but what really wears out the battery's chemistry is the cycle count and exposure to heat. The device is supposed to stop charging when the battery is full, no point in unplugging it, if it melts because of that, which I highly doubt, it's a MASSIVE manufacturing and/or design defect and safety hazard that would most likely have caused a class action law suits and mass withdrawels by now.

I had eilete battery straps for my quest twos and they were great. They did not break and was very comfortable. With too much use they did not snap. I got one for my quest 3 and it is even better for my quest too. The surves refrenced in this videos had a lot of flaws.

about port melting: nobody knows for sure why it happens, because meta isn't telling us, but it's almost certainly not because of high power chargers. i can plug a 200W laptop charger into my wireless mouse, and it will be fine. i can plug a C to C cable into wall plugs on both ends, plug both of them into the wall, and nothing will happen. usb is an incredibly stable and safe standard, just make sure to buy cables and chargers from trusted brands/sellers. so, why do the quest ports melt? can't be the power that's causing it, so it must be a defect. could be bad quality control, but it's more likely that you unknowingly damaged the port yourself. how? well, ever play with a link cable, or simply play while plugged into the wall? that's fine, obviously, but: - MAKE SURE that you SECURE THE CABLE correctly. tie it to the side of your headstrap with a velcro or something, then plug it in. - make sure the cable has a 90° angle at the headset port, and have it point towards your back (and thus towards the headstrap you're tying it to). - be CAREFUL when moving your head around while plugged in. if you have a ceiling mounted cable, DO NOT twist around too much. if you don't have a ceiling mounted cable, DO NOT twist around more than 180° in either direction AT ALL. - if you lie down while plugged in, make sure the cable does not get bent or pulled too much. do not lie on the cable/port itself. etc. any of these things will put strain on the cable, and especially if it's not secured to the headstrap, this strain will directly pull on the port. if you do any of these things too much, your port may get damaged, which may cause it to melt. THIS is (probably) why you see so many quests have their ports melt, something that almost never happens to any non-vr device.

Using a higher wattage charger should not cause any issues unless the device ie Quest 3 in this case has poorly designed circuitry. The Quest 3 is obviously not limiting its charging current as it should do. You can not force more current into a device than it can handle if it has been designed correctly and is using correctly specified components. Or maybe the connectors they are using are cheap shit with poor fit or higher than usual resistance thereby generating heat with the current flow, must be severe to melt plastic. Once charged ie green light the headset should not be drawing current so should not heat up the connector, if it is, that is another bad design. As an aside i think the Quest will be using a single cell lithium battery hence charging at 5V, so no balance issues and they do not get memory unlike the old Nicads.

Use Polywatch plastic polish paste if you get your lenses scratched. Takes off very little material, but can't use it infinite times! ONLY USE WHEN THE SCRATCHES ARE REALLY BAD! ONLY HAND POLISH, DO NOT USE DEVICES LIKE A DREMEL! POLISH WITH POLISHING MICROFIBRE FABRIC! (Get the paste that comes with cloth) (They aren't made of glass so don't use the glass one)

I've used laptop chargers with several Quest 2 headsets and never had an issue. Also leave it charging indefinitely

This headset is the reason why I'm sticking with Pico. and just to add if I'm correct isn't the meta quest 3 not fully using its processor so once it is doesn't that mean it's battery life is going to be even worse

2:35 my quest 2 charger melted, not the port inside of the headset😂
