Hi guys 🙋♀️ This was one of your best videos; great information on adapting to change and our ability to embrace it with a positive attitude. For all who have downsized.........it is FREEDOM from things you can do without. Moving to Florida was a huge leap for our family (joining relatives) from Long Island. We missed the four seasons, but not the snow! Fifty years later, and having lived in three homes, it's time to downsize again. Gone is the acrerage, pools, extra cars. Unfortunately, so too is my immediate and extended family. All is on hold for the time being, but I'm sooo ready for change. Isn't that the essence of life! 🙋♀️✌️🙋♀️✌️.

I loved listening to your channel. We moved to FL (Viera) 1.5 year ago just before Covid 19 so glad we were here. We, like you, down sized from a 3k sq fr home in MD, and CO in anticipation to my husband retirement. Is a big job bit so worthy. Best wishes with your channel I recommended it to many friends who are considering moving to FL.

The videos you do like this where you detail all the things you like or dislike about The Villages or moving to Florida are my favorites! Even though it can get down in the 30’s in January and February in the Villages at night or early morning doesn’t it almost always warm into the 50’s and 60’s by midday? That’s definitely better than Indiana where it’s in the single digits day and night for days at a time in January and February. You mentioned water skiing is popular in Florida and I know it’s true. I’ve always wondered how people do that when every lake is likely to have one or more alligators in it? Those must be some brave water skiers!!

That is so true about not missing a second story. I think people miss having a basement because they fill their garage with what they would use their basement for up north.

Just came across your Vlog. The wife and I were very amused by the numerous collections you had. We cannot relate whatsoever. I am retired military. We have a couple older friends who retired to The Villages as well as my eldest cousin. We have spent time with them at their invitation and have decided (after much consideration) to retire there. The thing we will have to give up and that caused us the most consternation is living near the ocean. My wife is an island girl and I grew up near the ocean in Orange County, CA. We currently live 1.5 miles from the gulf in Apollo Beach, FL. But, the amenities and activities available in The Villages and the sheer convenience of everything, along with the absolute welcoming friendliness of the people convinced us it is a good move for us.

I found you guys a few weeks ago and love your topics. I live in Nj in a 55 and older community. I have been stuck in my little 2 bed house since last march. During the summer all of our pools were closed down all of or club houses closed and still are. You go outside and NO one is out. I am so tired og this. I live 10 miles from the beach and all of the govs discourage going to the beach. Nj has a shortage of COVID shots and unless you are up at 4 am your chances of getting one is slim. Here is what i am doing.... i am having a big garage sale... as soon it gets warm enough. I am selling everything taking just the min and moving to Th Villages. I am coming down in may to pick out where i want to live. Coming home and selling my house.... they sell in a few days... and packing up to come down..... in the mean time i will keep watching and see you soon. One question......SNAKES AND GATORS. Do you run into many?
@JERRYANDLINDA3 жыл бұрын
Barbie, we see very few of either. As for gators you have to go looking for them. they are where they are supposed to be. Snakes, once in a while (not often)... you may see a black Racer which is a harmless make. Nothing at all for you to worry about.

We can still get out and play golf, Pickleball, beach tennis and the pools. You’re right the pools have not been overly crowded because there are so many pools and south of 44 lots of residents have their own pools. Also, even with Covid we can still do social distancing driveway visits with neighbors. We love our golf cart rides in the evenings. Such a beautiful community. So glad you are both here. Thanks 😊

Great video! Thanks Linda and Jerry! We just arrived at our new home in Tampa on Sunday (moved from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan ... brrrrr!). Living in an almost empty house. Thank goodness our new bed was delivered yesterday so we could move off of that air mattress--that was not a fun experience. Would you consider a video about how to furnish a new home, ie, stores (Ikea/local furniture stores, etc.) vs. online retailers (Wayfair/Overstock, West Elm, etc.)? We gave away/donated almost all our furniture. We kept the bare minimum just to tide us over until we could buy all new. We are still in the transition stage where we have lots to do regarding changing our location, but are also still having fun every day!

Hello, I’m in Texas. I feel like Texas and Florida have a lot of similarities (good and bad). It’s probably why I love Florida so much - because it feels like home in a way. As you know, Texas can be very hot, but unlike Florida, we can experience cold winters. Also, we have a LOT of Californians moving here so you wouldn’t be alone in that. I could be wrong, but I feel like Florida gets more people from up north like NJ and NY. I really want to move to Florida for retirement because the resort lifestyle really appeals to me, but we have a few years to go still.

Okay - so, I loved this video. It's great to know that you will become "MORE" active, than when you're living up here in Michigan. I like that! You mentioned golfing with people in their 80's, and Ruth whom you described as young. Well, that was music to my ears. Here in Michigan, we have to choose younger people with whom to do activities, because so many of our friends our age, cannot do the activities we can. Either because of health issues, or from their own life habits of inactivity, or they're smokers, or they've blown out their knees from their earlier years playing football or contact sports, and a lot of the wives are overweight, and some obese. It would be a life changer to actually meet people our age or older that could actually participate in doing things we love to do. You two have done a beautiful job listing the key issues of what it would be like to move down there. I'm kind of addicted to your channel. You're both so very pleasant. I think that's what attracts people to you. I do have one question - about the sink holes in Florida. Have there been any issues like that in The Villages????
@JERRYANDLINDA4 жыл бұрын
We, personally have not seen any singles in 2 years. There are sinkholes throughout Florida and I guess it's always a possibility. That's why we carry sinkhole insurance. Thankfully our neighborhood has been free of them. S for exercise it is easy to stay active here. In the summer however the heat is oppressive, and we find ourselves watching a lot of TV.

I convinced my husband not to start over in a regular neighborhood & we bought into a 55+ development 20 years ago.I knew it would be wonderful after working in Sun City AZ for 20 years. It is everything you stated that you won’t miss. I do miss seasons & in AZ you could escape to higher elevations, but Florida year round, is so much nicer. The social aspects & clubs, in these communities, are really enjoyable. You will need a calendar to keep track of it all. As Linda said, you see people & talk even on your walks, even with coronavirus. It is very hot for months, but you still find plenty of activities, especially Clubhouse based. You did not state one aspect that we like. It is security. Neighbors naturally watch out for each other. There is less crime. You can travel & your home is safe. Gizmo was asleep, when you said that you have to have fun everyday. I guess he overdid it yesterday? Linda, I have an unused flute if you need one. Jeanne

I am going to visit family in Florida for the holidays and I'm going to check out The Villages while I'm there.

OMG, Lisa. It is the #1 reason we chose The Villages. We've lived in California and "perfect" San Diego weather for decades. But, making new friends and socializing takes a real effort. Whether it's finding someone who's available or up for the activity or the traffic or the distance or the cost.....You'll find it soooo much easier and more welcoming in The Villages!! Try the Lifestyle Visit. We were hooked about 3 days in. ;o)

Also, I love the sound of your Grandfather clock! My grandparents had one when they lived in Florida! It really brings back wonderful memories, and I'd love to buy one for our Villages house. By any chance, do you know the brand or any brands to look out for, and if they still can be found? Maybe Ebay or an antique store? THANKS! :) have a great night! Mia :)

That clock is over 100 years old we want it more than 40 years ago. It stopped working earlier this year and we could not find anyone to work on it. We did find a man that replaced the old weight driven unit with a battery powered unit so the chimes you hear are actually just a battery powered clock inserted into the grandfather clock... it works great. We kept the antique brass works and they can be replaced and repaired at a later date if we choose.

Yes.. I’m in the de-cluttering phase. I do want to keep a small set of things but I don’t need 90% of the stuff I have. I do like to threaten Sally with decorating with deer heads :-) it’s all hot air though.

We will be there in 13 days. So excited. 😄 I will miss people, not things. Happy to give away lots of my “treasures” to people who w@nt them. And visiting at holidays will help. When my grandkids found out we will be only 55 minutes from Disneyworld they started making plans!! 😆

Looking at the rising costs of building or even buying a resale, how did you determine how much you were going to spend on a home there? Did you factor in the resale value or was that not in your thoughts because you are expecting to live there a very long time?

Great video! I swear I was paying attention but Gizmo was competing for my eyes with his cuteness.

I very much appreciated this video as well as the one about things we will miss. We are not able to move full time to the Villages at this time, but we are considering becoming snow birds. Would you please consider doing a video about the the “good, the bad, and the ugly” about snow birding in the Villages? Thank you for all that you do!

Downsizing...oy vey! For over thirty years, I've lived in a three bedroom home. I've lived alone for most of that time, & spent the years acquiring stuff ( including many, MANY books) to fill the extra space. Now that I'm considering downsizing & moving, the thought of dealing with all my stuff is overwhelming. Would you consider doing a video .to pass on advice on downsizing (please)?

I think there are people you can hire to help you downsize and declutter. One great idea is to take pictures of all of your stuff, put them in a neat scrapbook and enjoy the memories. Also, it’s so true that people, new friends, activities and clubs offer way more fun, learning and community than just more stuff. You’ll love The Villages, guaranteed! 🤗

OMG Donna I know exactly what you're talking about. When I go out to the garage or down the basement I have a panic attack. We are buying new furniture for our new home. It would cost more to move it than to buy new. Were so excited. I know the. Kids are a little upset even though we all live fairly close sometimes we don't see them for weeks. They have their own lives. They want us to stay because I'm the call hey Mom we want to go out tonight can you babysit lol. My oldest daughter said your Marks emergency contact at school. Who am I going to get. I'm not packing my bags & going on a guilt trip. We deserve this. Our kids always came 1st & now it's our turn.

At first I thought I would have the same problem. I asked my husband to give me one good reason to stay were we are. He couldn't. Finally rented a place for a month to visit in August and give it a try. Can't wait. So book a lifestyle visit Cherie. Sometimes it takes the wife to get them to budge.

Knowing I’ll be moving to the Villages everything you are talking about is so much help. Like right now my bedroom is upstairs. I won’t miss the stairs. And what to bring and what to leave behind. So many things to do before the move. With all your great advice and time to prepare I can tell it’s going to be easier just not having to move lawn care equipment, let a service handle that type of thing. More time for (Golf). LOL. Sorry to hear about your fingers Linda, but it’s nice to see you moving them so well. Love you guys. Your friend. Bobby.
