I found a 55+ community in Dunedin Florida. Heated pool, clubhouse with library and billiards, meeting room and kitchen, landscaping included in HOA, as well as cable and internet, trash water and sewer. The homes are block villas with carports or 1car garages.and I can afford mine, that I bought in August, on just my social security and a very small pension. HOA is $220/month. No flood insurance needed for this area and I am 1/8 mile from the gulf. My property taxes are less than I was paying in Ohio.168 homes in my very active community.

Love your blue shirts ! My husband and I both watch your channel. We are seriously thinking about moving to the villages. We need to do our homework. We own some land up by the Tennessee river. It’s beautiful land. 12 acres and About a 3 minute drive to the boat dock. But we spend our free time in Florida. Due to health reasons we haven’t taken the boat out in 2 years. And it seems the 12 acres just need work all the time. We are ready for a very a comfortable laid back life. And we know how much we love the area of the villages. Plus our daughter is in Florida. Love your rocks! How cute. Oh my I would not have thought bears are your area. How talented the sculpture of Gismo is. That took not only talent but time. What a nice gift. You mentioned a generator , we have solar. Enough to keep a freezer going and air conditioning because of health conditions. I don’t need to get way over heated. And the solicitors you could post a sign on your door. I think with the cost of living going up you must be able to generate income from several sources. My husband and I lived in the most expensive community in west Tennessee for 20 years. Once all the children were out of the house we moved to the country. I’m retired disabled now. Have been for 13 years with a very rare disease. It was a real shock to become so sick at age 47. Mostly because I still had another child to get through college. And we lived in that very expensive community in a big house. But my husband jumped to the challenge and increased his salary with lots of overtime. He’s an electrician. Retired electrician now. He retired at 47 too, By choice. But he got busy and is earning income right from the house. For the people wondering if you can live on social security. I think that varies. Everyone earns different amounts. I always say you need 5 sources of income. They all add up and can afford you what you need and sometimes what you want. The diet, my husband was diagnosed with diabetes last week. It was scary. But in just one week he has changed his diet using an app that is getting him on track. Blood sugar is coming down with no medications. Diet only and I believe he has a wonderful chance to live longer and healthier on this new diet of eating healthier. I have developed celiac disease. So no gluten. Together we just about can’t eat anything. But we find with our limited food choices we are full and happy. Life is all about being happy. I know how happy we are in Florida and it because we feel better. I don’t want to leave the child we have back in Tennessee. But she is a flight away. She could come down and visit us and her sister who lives in Florida anytime. We hope often. Just last October we rented the big timeshare with the lock off. We took everyone to Disney. It was wonderful having everyone under one roof. Who knows she might decide to move to Florida too. I believe there are places in all price ranges available. Maybe not so much the villages but close by. God bless you guys. Enjoy your day ! Leslye

You can Also put a "no soliciting sign" or Decal on your Door. Also one of the nice things that I noticed in the Villages is that all your Electric, Cable & Phone lines are Underground so you will not have severe power outages due to downed power lines or poles being hit by automobiles.

I am looking to move somewhere away from the snowy winters of PA but also not sure I could handle the extreme hot summers of Florida. Maintaining two homes is not very likely. An alternate option for a generator is a battery bank. There are several portable options that could keep your fridge/freezer going for several days. And all you have to do is keep it topped off until you need it. There are even emergency options that come with a small portable solar panel. They will cost you a bit more up front, but you don't have to worry about keeping fuel at home. Thanks for another great video guys . . . and I've been known to sing your song more than once . . . ok, every day :D

Great show guys. Looks like you were a hit at Future Farmers. 0630. Whew. That’s the tail end of a night shift right there. We have a generator (in Hawaii) because we live up a winding road through the forest at 3400’. (The jungle is down at 1000’) If we get lots of rain or wind, down come those branches onto the power lines. God Bless em, the electric crews are up here every other month or so. We got a transfer switch set-up, so our power switches to generator automatically, powering the whole house. If a hurricane hits, we are set. The roof should have a good chance too - it’s cement tile.

Sadly we used to surrounded by mostly farmland and woodlands so we got to see allot of deer, rabbits, snakes, geese and maybe one or two of an elusive coyote. But with all the new housing developments in our area and the farmland being bought and woodland being torn down for subdivisions. We do not get to see barely any wildlife; so enjoy them from a distance while you can because you may miss them when they are gone.
@JERRYANDLINDA2 жыл бұрын
You are right BJ… they are a treasure for sure. The thing is … when you drive around the outskirts of The Villages, Much of the land is not very attractive. We are sure that it provided a habitat for some wildlife…. but we also can see where The Villages has tried to provide a tremendous amount of natural area for those surviving animals.

With no mortgage, small house (maybe 2 beds, 2 bath), $2,500 a month is possible in my opinion. Of course, personal lifestyle is a big question and that probably is going to be your biggest impact. As Jerry and Linda said, most expenses are going to be similar no matter where you live.

Happy Valentine’s Day! We recently got a solar battery with a couple of panels from Evenflo. We didn’t want to worry about running out of gas plus here in Tucson we have a good supply of sunshine! I would think you would also have plenty of sunshine in FL. You can also keep the battery inside to use, like for refrigerator, fan, etc. Something to think about. The other worry is the electrical grid going out. That happened in SC when we were visiting. Love your channel and have watching for a couple of years. Mandy from Tucson🌵

With respect to the question as to whether a person could live in the villages on his Social Security, you missed a great opportunity to refer that person to the show you did about a month ago on budgeting for life in the villages, or for that matter could apply to anywhere else. That was a terrific and very comprehensive Budget making tool for retirees.
