ICStation.com contacted me and asked me if I'd like to take a look at a couple of products. They suggested a flashing LED Heart kit, and a 433Mhz transmitter. When I realised that the 433Mhz transmitter was not the normal data-modem module, but was actually an EV1527 rolling-code remote control transmitter (for garage doors and electric gates etc) I thought I should take a look.
Here's the two items that they sent me

Hi Jim, I know this may be an old issue, but I know how to use the ZF-2 transmitter module in your video. As an example, you can pair it with a cheap RX480-E EV1257 receiver/decoder. First clear the receiver by pressing the learning button 8 times, the LED will flash 7 times. Make sure you don't have an LED and resistor connected to the VT pin as this seems to prevent the chip from clearing its memory. Now to the transmitter. Mine is a 433MHz version and I am powering it from 5V. Before connecting power, press the learning button on the receiver once. Immediately connect power to the transmitter module. The receiver decoder learning LED will flash a number of times. On completion, the output pins on the decoder (D3,D2,D1,D0) will follow the link settings on the transmitter board. Remove a link and the outputs will follow the input. Each 3-pin link on the transmitter module can be set to either high or low. When set to high, the output on the decoder is high and vice versa. I have found no datasheets anywhere on the internet for this module so I help this may be of use to you and your other channel followers! Regards Graham

@@ThingsWhichArentWork many thanks. Glad we can finally use these boards! I am not totally clear on the maximun supply voltage. It appears to be 12v but works pretty well on 5V so I may stick with that for now. More testing in order I think :-)

Nice Jim! Great to see the LED board turned into a neat project with the little one. Cheers Bud. Hope things are well.

Thanks Eric - It was good fun building up that kit with my son, although it was a little dangerous... He was holding the soldering iron whilst I fed the solder onto the joints... Quite a few times I was sure I was going to hear my flesh sizzle when he moved the iron unexpectedly, but thankfully my reactions were quick enough to avoid being singed. Cheers!!

NOTE: This eV1527 version won't work on most decoders, data is inverted and the osc resistor may be different. Replace the 2TY(S8550) transistor with NPN, a generic should do, 3904, a 2SC1623/L6smd works. If it still doesn't work, use a known working encoder and compare osc resistor or pulse width. Adjust the osc resistor up/down as required. Good luck, mine works now...

Hi, just looking for help, can the ev1527 be used to copy rolling code from Mitto 2 remote ? I have tried 3 different remotes from ebay and they do copy the code and conform this by there lights but will not open the gate. hfy403f and hfy520dk etc, cheers Brett

I've played around with 433mhz stuff a lot, and I would guess that the module has a fixed address and you set the 4 jumpers (d1 to d4) which are the last 4 bits of the encoded packet. You should be able to sniff your garage door remote using rtl_433 and the SDR dongle to see which last 4 bits it's using for open/close then set your jumpers to match. As you said, it's probably a rolling code or some other encoding which AFAIK the EV1527 won't handle but worth a shot. github.com/merbanan/rtl_433 and use -A or -a

Thanks +magnets1000 - I've been meaning to do a lot more playing around with the SDR stuff than I have so far... Right now I mostly just use it to confirm that things are able to transmit, but I'm aware that I can read the tranmissions from my oregon scientific weather station too... perhaps I'll get around to that when the nights start to close in and there's less to occupy me in the greenhouse. Cheers!!

Thanks again for the link to the rtl_433 stuff... I have it up and running on my linux machine now and it's giving me pressure, temperature and humidity readings. Cheers!!

I agree with magnets1000, the EV1527 chip's 20 bit ID is one time programmable (can't be changed) so it's pot luck which ID you'll receive. These fixed code modules are quite different from rolling code modules which the door lifter probably uses, or it only responds to certain ID's. However it would pair nicely with the RXC6 learning receiver module. If you're really curious which ID you've received and rtl_433 not making sense, record the baseband using SDR# and examine .wav file using Audacity - very easy.

I think it didn't work because you had all 4 buttons pressed (the little 4 jumpers) , you should only short one and try to link.

So the 4 jumpers are discrete inputs to transmit? It would be helpful if someone explained this in say a "data sheet"? They might sell a few more that way. Anyway, you are probably right. Thanks for the tip.
