cbilton.creator-spring.com I had started an experimental piece that was not going to be featured on the channel. I just want to try something out for myself.
I decided that the piece I was making itself wasn't enough for the channel but the actual idea and action of making it was so decided to feature it.
This is not my usual type of upload. Im not trying to teach anything here but I do want to encourage practicing jewellers to experiment and stretch their skills and abilities.
In the video I show the kind of thing I get up to when just 'mucking about at the bench'
I was having fun but I was also simultaneously learning lots about stone positions, joining collets together, putting different shape stones together, claw work, setting etc and those were just the things I knew I was getting myself in to. As it all came together lots of extra design possibilities became clear to me that I had never even considered.
It was a great learning experience and I recommend you do similar things in your spare time at the bench!

Children will naturally make play time a priority. Its instinctive behavior. Therefore there must be something especially developmental in playing. Being creative and having fun must be a key way to develop and learn? I think it is.

Making it like a coronet cluster would be cool. Each marquee shape replacing multiple stones means you couldn't scallop them as normal but it would give it height and make it perfectly round. 👍👍👍 cool idea for cufflinks.

Worked four and a half years precessional jeweler after school for it. Doing the same thing being creative and having fun now. That’s what many of us lose in school and as profession comes in to the picture. One of my favorite videos of your so far. I laugh and say it’s a hobby now;)

I smushed a rather large jasper today putting what I thought was gentle pressure on the claws..... if I had half your skill or talent I'd be well made up! You've taught me a lot over the last year. I picture a line of pave on the inside of the Marquis' stones and then a pave halo all around perhaps. A bit blingy, but then again it's a bit blingy already! Excellent adventure Chris!

i think it's helpful to watch professionals "wing it" because you can see their thinking process and I think that's super useful. I also think banging out a draft is really effective in terms of learning and "re-doing" even as someone who considers themselves very talented... I always make sure I have enough materials just incase I screw up just because first try is always a draft lol

Interesting video with your emphasise on design. My designerwannabe gets all exited :-) I think I would like to try it without the claws. And using the rim of the marquise settings as 'base'/'material' for the princess setting. Shared settings? It migth then just need to be flat. - I still miss that closeup you talked about. On my screen it is never more 45x45 mm, the screen being 185x330 mm. - That's like 2025 / 61050 square mm, just 3.3 % ! Thanks for your showing us working as designer.

Sometime when you have an extra few minutes, could you do a "short" on your soldering setup? I have seen some youtube jewelery teachers with similar bench setups to yours (no V cut in your bench pin, bench pin cut short at an angle for filing, no benchmate system, soldering with tweezers in a notch on your pin, big steel sheet on your bench behind your pin) Maybe it is a not-USA thing? Thanks for all the great work you do.

@@DiamondMounter Could be from London. I have also seen two Aussie jewelry teachers on youtube with similar bench pegs/soldering stuff. "Jewelry Training solutions", and "the jeweler's hub". I dont know how you guys get by without a benchmate, but all three of you have mad bench peg skills -- its like you dont really need it.

Hi Chris. I think the reason it was a bit gappy is because you angled the marquise diamonds. That’s why they’re set flat usually 😉

Yes 100%! When the stones are laid flat the square stone was the correct size to fill the centre

You and i have alot in common i get up really early and start working on my jewelry im making your pendant design im maybe going to do a wire under gallery and make it a ring head im nowhere near as advanced as you but this is something i can make ive made over 1 thousand pieces 5 years 7 days week working i only eat one meal day also im 60 back at high school weight feel great and no poison jab 4 me your in the only place on earth not doing the nwo extermination jabs
