I went and saw Phantom of the Opera on Broadway in New York when I was 10. One of the wildest experiences I've ever had, I most certainly won't ever forget it. I remember this song standing out to me as being one of the best that they did that night. I'm also a little biased because it's my Grandma's favorite song from the musical 😅 this cover really does the song justice, fantastic job SMB. Can't wait for the 4 mil special!

I think one of the reasons this song, among the others in Phantom of the Opera, are so powerful is because it doesn’t feel like the show stopped so they could sing a song. The song is literally a natural part of the story. So it doesn’t feel like you’re waiting for the song to end so the characters can get back to the plot. Andrew Lloyd Webber was clearly at the height of his genius when he did Phantom.

No problem :). I grew up listening to the original 1988 version on my parents vinyl records, then we got the cd original London cast in the 90s. I’ve listened to it so many times I have it memorized. I’ve seen it performed live on 4 different occasions, and the changes they made to some of the lyrics always baffled me. There didn’t even seem to be any point to the changes either. They are all great vocalists, but Michael Crawford as the Phantom and Sarah Brightman as Christie will forever be unequalled in my ears.

I remember seeing the Phantom when it came to Miami Beach many years ago,and seeing ladies in their evening dresses and diamonds. The huge chandelier actually 'broke' when it fell. It cost me two weeks wages back then to see it,but it was well worth it.
