Thinking Of Buying A Nord Grand 2? - Watch this Full Demo first!

Back in the 1980's my family and I were a gospel singing group. My dad used a Yamaha CP80 Midi grand, with a DX7 and a Yamaha sound module. I used a Roland RD300 with a Kurzweil sound module and a Roland sound module to get the sounds we wanted. Oh how I wish this existed back then! Our dream back then is now complete reality! Nord sounds amazing!

That's a beautiful instrument. If I were in the market for a stage piano, I'd definitely consider it. Actually I am here just to enjoy another of Tony's fabulous performances!

Could you tell us how you amplified the piano? Or how it was recorded if you went straight into a DAW since this all makes a critical difference - sounds really great nonetheless

How does a player control the String Quintet and not let it affect the piano tone? Does the sustain pedal sustain both sounds or just one?

​@@moonootoo Sustain pedal holds the Strings, and the piano tone dissappears by its alone. Strings last longer naturally.

Hey Tony! great demo as always!! I heard from another reviewer that the Nord Grand2 has a heavier action and can tire the fingers while playing long hours. What is your take on this and does Nord Grand have a lighter action ?

if I want this quality of sound, but I only have $1500 USD to spend, what should I do- save up or are there other options??? I am beginning to get pretty good at piano, definitely not as good as you yet, but working on it. On that note, any tips on how to become a master piano player?

Hi Tony, what aftereffect do you use ? I have NG2 and my White grand with no effect does not sound like the one you demonstrate.

I moved from the Nord Grand 1 to an ES920. I much prefer the Kawai ES920 keybed action over the Nord Grand V1. I haven't played a Nord Grand V2 yet. I wish Kawai would update the MP7se. Right now, I'd buy a Roland RD-2000 EX...and plan to do so.

@@musiccreation1198switched from a decent Kaw 920 to a Nord Piano 5. Wow! The grand piano samples are incomparably amazing. As fine as the touch on the Kawaii is, the limitations of the piano samples tired my ears and never really inspired me. I’ve owned and eventually sold dozens of popular stage pianos and synths since my first mid 70s minimoog then Prophet 5. Any daily played key-bed will wear thin after 2-3 years and need refelting etc. which I’ve had done a half dozen times. I bought and returned an early Nord in the 2000s but I’m keeping this! Very inspiring. The Grand 2 seems great but far too heavy for a stage piano unless you’ve got a crew carrying gear for you. Piano 5 has all the same samples as the grand 2, better yet, any can download from their massive library.

@@musiccreation1198interesting. I own a Kawai GL40 as my main instrument but I’m looking for a digital piano for silent practice. I was about to get the Nord Grand2 but you prefer the Kawai ES920? What are the reasons? I was also considering the ES920 but thought spending more on the Nord Grand would be worth it ?

I play a lot of Chopin and Brahms so the tone and action are very important. What’s better about the Roland that you’re willing to leave the Kawai ES920?

Holiday Greetings from the USA, Tony! I've watched and benefited greatly from your videos. In fact, you're the reason I felt comfortable purchasing my first Nord this past year, a Stage 4 HA73. I love it! My current 88 note is a Fantom 8. I love the action. However, I'm selling it as there's a lot about the board that doesn't resonate. My Stage 4 HA73 lives between being above the Fantom and in the Salon of my sailboat. I'm not clear whether to replace the Fantom 8 with a Stage 4 88 or a Grand 2. I absolutely love the functionality and sounds of the Stage 4. I'm not totally crazy about its action but am definitely able to emote while playing it. Apparently, the Grand 2 will have a more realistic piano action, but not the functionality of the Stage 4. If I go with the Stage 4 88, there will be times when I have 2 Stage 4s in my studio. Which, I believe, having the HA 73 on the upper tier would be kind of like having a Wave 2+. If I go with the Grand 2, there will be times when I won't have a Stage 4 in my studio. I'd be so grateful for your thoughts? Mitch

Jeez I wish Roland could sample that well. My LX7's concert grand setting sounds most like the velvet which i think is way to twangy in the mids. All the other LX7 settings are garbage.

Why do you repeat clavia’s lie about “premium Kawai action” in Grand 1?! It’s not a little bit premium, i had one and sold it exactly because it unbearable. Cheap, noisy, not a “grand feel” in a slightest sense. Especially if u ever touch any real Kawai action.
